Rough economic landscape. Fear of flying to the US. High gas prices. Softening of american company support for "woke" causes.

The post reads pretty clear to me. They didn't raise enough money

Reminds me of this scene in margin call.

Explain it to me like I'm a golden retriever.

My guess is that the validation just validates the numbers which are old and valid and some automated system notices the label and routes it. I bet their system is a disjointed system and not set up in a way where every step checks every thing. It's very plausible it was home grown in such a way where its like this

It's doing something that wasn't worth the squeeze for a human. Seems like a perfect use case for AI. Sure, I can do X or I can do Y but if it takes me a few weeks but AI can hash it out in hours, it now makes it worth it.

Just a guess but gig work might be picking up some of that slack?

Re:The August 17 outage, and the work ahead on Friday August 21, 2026 @10:02AM (#49388226)
Most of my family are small business owners, so I've done a handful of Excel automations that they needed that generally take me a while to figure out. Landing pages and a few 3D designed prototypes that I used the Fusion 360 MCP server for

Same. Helping family out when I generally was too tired to do it earlier. They're all very happy too
Many people were making more money on unemployment than their standard wage due to the covid increased pay. The fed paid $600 on top of state benefits for a few months and then $300 for more than a year after that meaning people were seeing 16 -> 24 dollars an hour in wages for not working in my state of Georgia for instance. It was often smarter to stay unemployed until that ran out compared to local wages.

Russia invaded Ukraine specifically because they have nukes. Everyone is afraid to fight back.
Yeah, I grew up in N. GA in a rural area and my family still had a rotary until the mid or late 90s. lol. No internet either

Missing the forest for the trees
I think that's just having a family in general if you're not into it. Many people are chosing not to because they want a different life. It's not really a money question. Humans have been having kids in much worse times. We just have the option not to. Women have more rights and we have birth control.
I've never played this but now I need to

It's not a rebuttal. There's no rebuttal to someone's personal story.
ok
Only if you're trying to keep up with the Joneses.
If 150k to 300k isn't enough for someone, they need financial therapy
Re:That time when I failed the Microsoft interview on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @09:52AM (#49169018)
I think it's because most of us don't do CS once we graduate. We build APIs and websites which don't involve CS at all. It barely involves engineering. lol.

No one uses binary trees or some manual form of serialization.

They use "superlib.search(arr)" or (seriliazer.parse(thingy)" and that's about it. No one cares about what it does. They just know it does it faster than something they could write. The only places that care about it are at the utmost peak of scale.

Heck, I run an API that gets tens of millions of reqs a day and I'm an idiot that couldn't computer science their way of of a paper bag.

Good luck doing that in China?

Has anyone tried Qwen with the Fusion 360 MCP server? I feel like drawing with python is close enough but I'm curious
I'm out of credits or I would've tried fable. I knew it would do well
It's probably because I registered the account in her business' name.
I think Apple requires it too or did when I made an app for my mom a few years ago

I think that's mainly because the mailman might not notice that the mail in your box is not your mail being left over from when he dropped it off the day before. The flag lets him know what's remaining in the box is to be delivered. He could read the addresses but they have very busy routes!

Scam has started to become overused like the word slop. Scam has a specific meaning. Sounds like you are complaining about a potential problem while a scam is a guaranteed problem
