Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @08:59AM (#50352072)
Not sure what you're getting at, in any of the cases you said it needs to learn if it needs to do new things.

Maybe it can generalize outside of some learning task you gave it, but still it comes from the training data.

"Generalization" also comes with some luck, since these models most of the time output complete non-sense when it comes to tasks it "didn't learn" specifically. Just because you got lucky with the neuron connections doesn't mean it has what it takes to generalize anything.

Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @06:30AM (#50350670)
Random init only exists to make each neuron distinct from other neurons. The weight is still defined by the training data, without the training data, these random weight don't give us anything.

The second thing you said is basically what's called fine-tuning.

The definitions behind the math of LLMs.

Well, it can't, by definition.
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:15PM (#50293512)
Running doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. I don't say firing is morally correct, but most companies don't work on moral. It's sad that this is the state, but what can you do? Companies are entities that want money, nothing stands in the way.

> Bad for business to run for office and criticize a Republican incumbent!

I think it's a fully justified reason. If I'm in a senior position and I say something that in someway hurts the company reputation/income, I would be fired. If the company liveness depend on me being fired, the I think the decision is justified.

That's not a mental illness.
Re:Neural chip decodes interactions between brain regions on Sunday October 25, 2026 @05:27AM (#50229702)
How did it get personal? You can't understand my take so you lash out. Well, I don't really care so... Good luck?
Re:Neural chip decodes interactions between brain regions on Sunday October 25, 2026 @05:24AM (#50229690)
Sports activity affect the brain physically, and in my opinion, can help fix mental disorders. Not all disorders, I'm no neurologist, but in my non-scientific experience, sports really help mental illnesses.

For example, if you have depression, doing sports most certainly help you get out of depression. If your body image makes you depressed somewhat, sports fix that. (Put aside cases where people have a burned face or some other irregular case.)

For OCDs, you may get your obsessive thoughts/actions to be replaced by sports activity. You exert energy, you work and it helps.

Already said "I know some can't do sports." Also didn't say anything about fixing physical health issues.

I feel like many mental disorders would be fixed by just doing sports. I know some can't do sports, but most people can, and all of these solutions are actually bandaids because of living in the current world environment (where you scroll through social media, etc.)

Re:OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @01:42PM (#50184761)
Except google cloud doesn't use Nvidia GPUs but TPUs.
Nature seems harsh to you now, but back then, it wasn't so harsh. Sure, maybe mosquito bites would annoy you, but back then, not some much.
What you don't know, it's actually a very clever trick by an LLM. By not highlighting the text, it makes you think harder and gives you actually some challenge. 99% of people want to be challenged when selecting text, so the AI decided to drop text highlighting.

Who knows? Not any official explanation for this.
Re:8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution on Monday October 19, 2026 @10:11AM (#50152748)
Not by the same one that is going to be executed.

He spent his life in prison, now he would be executed live, everyone would see how he's going to die, and for him at least, it's very disrespecting.

Re:8 in 10 Americans oppose live-streaming execution on Monday October 19, 2026 @09:29AM (#50152239)
20% is a lot. All the families that were hurt by a terrorist attack, or even some attack, can have some relief by revenge. It makes sense.
Re:Smart people don't think others are stupid on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:35AM (#50086726)
I mean, Einstein said there is no limit to stupidity... Do you think he said it about himself?
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:07AM (#50072907)
There are iPads with the same price and you get more.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:06AM (#50072891)
I'm just saying for these type of niche, like home tablet, you can buy a cheap iPad, you don't need any M1 iPad here.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:27AM (#50071396)
They just ran out of ideas, or just looking for more ways to squeeze some money. What's wrong with an iPad??
Re:QGIS bans AI assisted contributions on Monday October 12, 2026 @10:59AM (#50057390)
LLMs are still being detected at the same level since the day coding agents were actually something, hence, it's not improving for 3 years. Why would they be undetectable next month?
Subscriptions are not ZDR.
You're the RLHF.
Re:Margaret Hamilton has died on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:24PM (#50007835)
Obviously, I won't delete this, I actually don't see why. I can critique anything I want. And it's not fair saying a famous person like Hamilton coined some term when probably she heard it from someone else.

Terming "software engineer" is nothing of genius, it's literally taking two logical words and mending them together. One day I will say "plumber engineer" and now I'm gonna be the one coined that term.

People blow things up out of proportion. They should focus on other things, of course, in my opinion.

Motorola has partnership with GrapheneOS.
Re:We ported the original Doom to SQL on Monday October 05, 2026 @06:41AM (#49963126)
Off topic, but say you have a program that needs to calculate something but takes a long long time, how to counter hardware failure without needing to calculate everything from the start?
Who said those vulnerabilities were found by an LLM?
Re:GrapheneOS – When an app is slow on Monday September 28, 2026 @05:12PM (#49884427)
Yes.
