I don't understand, google still works, but responds with a gemini answer by default. In what way is google worse off?
Also being paid handsomely to run models for OpenAI, in OpenAI stock, so they're fine either way.
And even more, Anthropic are paying Google to run their models.
Eaten away... By people using Gemini.
I'd argue that nothing is "inarguable"
Almost as if they're buying the display from Samsung...
But are tablets a real worthwhile market, or just a luxury couch device for a few?
I'd rather have a touchscreen macbook pro.
Other than getting $250 per iphone duo sold, becuase they're the exclusive screen supplier?
Except the cameras are bad, it's not a top of the line phone despite having the highest price. Weired choice, will limit it's appeal a lot.
It did do, but now it's putting ads in everything it will rapidly converge to the same practices to optimise shareholder value.
It was an lower spec, gimped version to be fair. No one in the market for a new phone on launch day is excited to buy a lower end, worse battery & camera version that's missing multiple features present on the other versions.
Seriously? They were tiny, media production niche, crazily priced machines 30 years ago. Almost zero marketshare or mindshare, and most people (in e.g. EU) didn't even know anyone who owned a Mac.
I can't imagine wanting to walk anywhere with massive clownish goggles on, and while tethered to the power box & various peripherals.
Still, a small camera is an odd thing to cut.
Seriously, this (and pron) is the only use case that will appeal to the mass market for a single user, un-shareable, stupid looking, immersive thing like this.
For nice hardware with hardly any content, not making huge strides to get existing VR content on it was a terrible strategy. And Apple can afford to just buy one of the bigger players to get content too.
I wonder if anyone has done the work to adjust for 'net salary per hour working or commuting' for WFH vs. in office work in a high cost of living area;
This can easily translate to a 50-80% higher salary after housing costs, which for sure would translate into better wellbeing for most people anyway. For some EU companies, this can mean not even having to live in the same country, so wildly different cost of living.
Just having to live somewhere you can reasonably commute to an office, even just 2 days a week, is massively limiting in terms of where and how you can afford to live on any salary. For a daily in office work it's even worse.
Then the commute costs; easily 5-10k GBP per year for 'commutable to London' towns in the countryside.
US tech companies that 'on paper' export software from Ireland as a tax loophole make it technically the 2nd biggest exporter of software in the world.
There are more people in single 2nd tier city metro areas in other European countries than in the whole of Ireland.
As with window AC units, I worry greatly about the risk of them dropping on people's heads.
But beyond that, this whole backyard/balcony power generation stuff makes me think of Chairman Mao's great leap forward; 'everyone should smelt iron in their back yard' programme. Just so many levels of inefficiency, ignored safety protocols and wasted opportunity to do this at a building, city block, city wide or national level that would actually provide some benefit.
If you live in the sticks, solar and a battery system is maybe worthwhile for redundancy, but all of this is just a waste. Most of these units will be in landfills in a few years, and the production cost in pollution is magically handwaved away.
You're renting, AND you have unmetered electricity; why the hell would you bother with solar panels?
If anything you should be building a nice home Nvidia AI cluster to take advantage of that free power.
They're not 'the poor' though. If you own a $20 million of land why is everyone rich and poor in the city paying a dollar to fund your faster internet?
Dubious when you consider how few people this is.
Being a farmer is also a lifestyle choice.
Do you expect your main broadband connection to be out for a month? An hour is unusual enough.
Some places = Most of the developed world
Why does coverage matter... when you know perfectly well if you have decent 5G coverage at the location of your fibre router?
It's been the
absolute worst thing for 10+ years that some podcasts have adverts, even their own website, but somehow fail to provide the RSS feed link anywhere - only app specific links for the biggest 2.
You also have people producing "podcasts" that only exist on youtube.
Screen quality, refresh rate and aspect ratio is garbage, so I do not care.
It's a manufacturing technique that is helpful for prototyping and makes sense some types of small scale manufacturing.
But it's not magical, and not much different to injection moulding or something in concept.
Almost everything created with home level 3d printers is plastic junk you can buy for a few dollars on aliexpress (without weird rough edges).
>For existing neighborhoods this means buying dozens of SFH from people who don't want to move.
This is closely coupled to the whole 'grandfathered in to very low property taxes from 50 years ago' problem.
