In ways it does though. There are telltale signs of AI writing that once you see it across sites repeatedly, it starts to be annoying to find.

Couple of immediate examples:

- The Codex has 154 pages. 127 of them have been reviewed, 27 not yet. - Each of the 154 pages gets a page of its own.

If an author doesn’t have time to write. Why should I give up my time to read?

There’s an argument to be made if divorce was easier than more people might get married when they are less serious. My view though is make it harder to get married and easier to get divorced.

You made a new account to post this?
It’s sad to you that they have a life outside of work?
If AI takes all the jobs and consolidation of wealth continues it’s not an unlikely outcome. No income no spending = dead economy, poverty and starvation.

What are do people do when their government and capitalism fails them?

And in many places makes more than minimum wage.
It’s a lot more complicated financially for people. You used to not have to rely on dual incomes just to survive. Wealth inequity, housing affordability, and healthcare have all changed. This is why many are choosing to have kids later in life or not even at all because of those reasons and even the environment with climate change it’s a hard decision to make to bring new life into this world to suffer in it.
Re:This website is hosted on Bluesky on Monday November 25, 2024 @10:20AM (#42236994)
I guess bsky.net and bluesky.net were taken. What’s weird is why ICANN allowed .network TLD at all when .net already existed, was shorter, and meant for that.
Last I checked Automattic is a privately held for profit company. One could argue that it’s a private equity too. Just using different words to twist a narrative.
How can you use the trademark defense after over a decade of non enforcement? They and others in the space are highly likely covered under fair use.
Matt why are you only targeting them? Trademark must be defended against all not just one. Do you really believe they are the only ones? Are you going to go after everyone next?

Respectfully given the timing of waiting over a decade to use the trademark approach, I think your actions are going to destroy everything you worked hard to create. I hope you soon reflect on the domino effect this will have in time.

Matt. You are rich. What is behind your motivations here? You seem to be very candid and passionate about this but I must be missing something. Why spend your time doing this? What’s your end goal?
Is there a way to add in another data point with this for new home construction cost to look for correlations?
I sometimes agree with this theory, however in practice the past few years have shown us that interest rate increases have little effect after all. People were predicting that interest rates would crash the housing market and nothing significant happened.

All of the input costs to new construction go up over time (labor, materials, licenses, services) and new home pricing has an anchoring effect on the existing home market.

Try avoiding Nestle. It’s sadly near impossible.
Re:Minimum Wage Clock on Friday January 05, 2024 @12:06AM (#38875904)
Money is power and the supply is finite. The disproportionate amount of money that CEOs make compared to the average worker is basically enabling modern day kings when you factor in political influence of money. It’s what is fueling continuous wealth inequality levels which keep being broken.

My favorite line in the tech industry.

Re:Never Ship on Fridays on Sunday December 10, 2023 @01:43AM (#38589649)
The thing is that the one roof doesn’t affect all your entire customer base. That isn’t quite a fair comparison to make due to the nature of software scale, but I can relate to the sentiment.
Re:Show HN: Get robocallers and SMS spammers shut down on Tuesday December 05, 2023 @01:17PM (#38534805)
Ads are not illegal. Spam is regulated by laws like the TCPA for sms and CAN-SPAM for email.

Chrome extension malware.
Maybe it’s a cross post.
What does this have to do with them winning a contest? It comes across as argument baiting.
Re:Amazon reaches 10000 Rivian electric delivery vans in U.S. on Wednesday October 18, 2023 @04:11PM (#37934133)
The Rivian one was designed for Amazon specs. The Ford one is half the cost of a Rivian R1T. This is simply price economics. Amazon wanted to maximize space for packages, not batteries. They have charges at their warehouses and these are charged likely at night for off peak rates.

If we are talking about just an ambulance, the range could get higher, but there are diminishing returns eventually for a giant square so it probably needs an aerodynamic redesign.

Re:So Long, Twitter and Reddit on Thursday August 24, 2023 @07:35PM (#37255948)
This looks like a really cool project. Is it open source?
Why should they not be able to do that since it’s their platform and store front? Should Walmart not be able to position Sam’s Choice before other brands?
This is not correct. It’s up to the server, controlled by the application to send that or other headers. Similar to sending a <title> tag. The headers take priority and similar to what another person said they will do a HEAD request first and not bother with a GET request for the content.
You spent that much on this so far? How do you plan to get a return?
Tesla FSD is also coming any day now too.
Re:Silicon Valley Bank paid out bonuses hours before seizure on Saturday March 11, 2023 @09:41PM (#35115870)
It always is a coincidence isn’t it. Isn’t that unfortunate.
A simple solution prior to writing to a file in this case is to check if it already exists. It shouldn’t matter what triggers this bot if it’s programmed safe and idempotent.
