Is it using comparable tokens per task?
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:00AM (#50244950)
“Beleive” in the sense that Tom Cruise believes in the cosmic DC8?

Anthropic [employees] huffing their own koolaid fumes aside, it’s extremely difficult to believe the claims that these mega valuations are substantiated on (*one* company somehow assuming a meaningful fraction of global research and production)

Re:Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed on Friday October 23, 2026 @11:33PM (#50218144)
Granted we know that 6 Astra was built to do more computation between each token.

The difference is that it’s not subtracting an otherwise present part of training, it’s choosing not to continue to push it with RLVR. Models become capable like this when they are specifically tuned to be good at cyber tasks, so without the RLVR (Reinforcement Learning w/ Verifiable Rewards) they never pick up this level of aptitude.

I agree that it’s not obviously sustainable, but it’s better than specifically training these tools to be good at wreaking havoc, and then putting on a shocked pikachu face when they wreak havoc (ahem, Sam Altman).

In case it hasn’t become abundantly clear to everyone by now: this is how Facebook operates. The people who do this stuff get promoted, and vice versa. This will keep happening until those people are scared straight, and the incentive structure that turns people into this are abolished.
Mind elaborating on that Deepseek point? I am aware of the USG decision, what exactly do you mean?
Mostly referencing the hugging face incident. It’s a felony.
Yeah, but it’s different if they’re our backdoors!
So much accountability!!!
“Unexpected” is a little much - his approval rating is under the gutter.
Re:MiniMax M3.1 Flash on Monday October 19, 2026 @07:26PM (#50159365)
Fair. I wasn’t advocating for “holding them right”, I feel it’s an important nuance to keep in mind when conceptualizing them, i.e. it’s procedural, determistic, yet both inherently and in practice extremely chaotic and therefore not practically deterministic software. So, in essence - software.
Re:MiniMax M3.1 Flash on Monday October 19, 2026 @07:23PM (#50159350)
Ah, that’s interesting. That is what I was attempting to cover with my last parenthesis but I was not aware of that!
Re:MiniMax M3.1 Flash on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:49PM (#50157160)
> LLMs are nondeterministic

Being pedantic - LLMs are deterministic software, that is chaotic and typically deployed with a PRNG seed. An LLM ran using the same seed will produce the same output consistently (theoretically - in practice this isn’t always the case because of changing factors wrt the execution environment given how sensitive/chaotic models are).

Re:Mercury 3: Diffusion at scale on Monday October 19, 2026 @02:21PM (#50155941)
Google more or less ordinated the category. They have now seemingly dropped it, ostensibly because it doesn’t scale economically like transformers do (via batching requests).

I think though, that if Inception can keep up these speeds and prices, assuming diffusion continues to improve (likely), that Flash and Luna could lose out for many use cases.

Re:Data Centers Are Turning Trump Voters into Democrats on Monday October 19, 2026 @02:01PM (#50155684)
Maybe not, they definitely do want right of ways for power lines on people’s property though. And they use the classic eminent domain playbook to get at it. Specifically referencing power from/through West Virginia to NoVa.

They offer a few security and telemaintenance jobs after construction.

Mechanistic interpretability is a field that studies exactly this.
Re:Data Centers Are Turning Trump Voters into Democrats on Sunday October 18, 2026 @07:20PM (#50146513)
Most people aren’t anti-data centers, they’re anti-data centers that degrade their community yet are greenlit by bought local politicians anyway.
Ah, it’s a handy way to avoid land acquisition hassle, however when it comes to economic and thermodynamic feasibility the situation sounds a lot like (these) flying cars.

I don’t see how this is any different. The input comes in a different section of context and potentially before rather than after generation, but that doesn’t change that human taste is needed.

How are they AI servers? Afaik they’re really fancy wifi repeaters with possibly some discrete fancy sensing for military co use.
Re:I Electrified My Push Scooter with a Power Drill on Sunday October 18, 2026 @02:25PM (#50143861)
Wonder how this would work with an impact? Also, since it already uses one-way bearings, could another drill/impact be fitted to the other side so that there are two “gears” available?
Grok? Lmao

Edit: Starlink is cool

Don’t overcomplicate it. People are discussing their opinions of truth, using relevant terms.
Yeah. “The eyes are the window to the soul” is true.

No.
Re:Bleached corals thrive within days on Saturday October 17, 2026 @09:07PM (#50136831)
Edited, is that clearer?
Re:Bleached corals thrive within days on Saturday October 17, 2026 @08:32PM (#50136651)
As an ex-prefacer, imo it’s a hedge against the nudging recognition that the thought being hedged is based on a pyramid of iffy connections (usually more word-of-mouth type “science”), rather than an articulable, concrete a->b->c.
Re:Bleached corals thrive within days on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:58PM (#50135535)
My interpretation is “Programming in their nature” -> their being, meaning the molecular structure that defines them, is a program, a complex program, one executed by the interpreter that is physics.

You might be interested in Catholic theology + philosophy. It takes a LOT of background, and a lot of time to accumulate it, but you clearly have some already, and once you get comfortable with reframing terms that have a lot of societal baggage attached to simpler, honest understandings (for example, God, as a sky dude vs the universe as a mind), you can go so far.
