Does this play a role in why the keyboard on iOS is so fucking enraging? It used to be amazing.
Pretty awesome write up to explain their journey in it all.

I suspect a bunch of car head units will face new problems in the spring when many Canadian provinces will no longer change their clocks. The units won't get updated DST rules.

I read your "senior" in the general "aged human" sense and I think there's value there to.

Until dementia kicks in anyway

The original Janeway for Star Trek Voyager only filmed like one episode and her take was very different (French actress I think. And maybe they were aiming for a Picard analog).

It's the dumb attempt to use video backgrounds and the varying ways that mobile devices choose to display those videos.
Can you ask Claude to help with the modification of the local client?
Just wait for bioluminescent snake oil supplements soon.
Something interesting to me here: "Darker skin" as a standalone term implicitly means white skin is the baseline. We pretty much only see "lighter skin" or "paler skin" when it's in a comparison. We do see the absolute of "pale skin".
It's not common knowledge at all. And in some circles if you bring up physiological differences with skin color it leads to claims of racism.

Australia has seemingly taken the lead on advice (re vitamin d or skin cancer risks) that's based on skin color.

Traditionally, health notes always just assume you're a white male.

I recently saw a doc on the 2013 Spanish crash and it was full of absurd system problems. The govt pinned it on the driver as best they could but it's clear that it was entirely preventable.

He had many lives. It's cool to note that he didn't take on the Picard role until he was 47.

Never too late to do the other thing. Keep going.

Don't forget he voiced the Poop emoji in that movie. If only we could tell his younger, Shakespeare-acting, self.

Lewy body dementia was what Robin Williams had but they didn't discover until after his death and I guess he was misdiagnosed during life.

Then what? In this case, Suspend the train engineer? The company itself is incentivized to ignore the warnings to keep things on track.

(...on track)

Why isn't there basically adsb data for trains?! They can broadcast speed and position. Other trains can then see things ahead on their track. This seems like a solved problem so I must be missing something obvious.
Vox is paywalled too?

It would be cool if they had an add on battery that fit seamlessly. Or imagine a swappable battery? And then ensure you only use the 100wh when flying?

The airline rules are a bit arbitrary. They have allowances for mobility devices but don't seem to take any extra precautions for them when they have bigger batteries. There are still a lot of dangerous gaps in airline safety when it comes to lithium batteries.

I'm in that class. My iPhone has more power than my MacBook it seems. But I do love the m1 still for what it can do.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @04:20PM (#50280320)
With the surface books, the bigger battery and graphics card in the base ensured that it was the heavier part.
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:15PM (#50277031)
My god they finally did it. After all the fears of canibalizing iPad sales and gorilla arms. An Apple touchscreen MacBook.

Absurd it took this long when they basically led the field in touchscreen innovation (especially on the UX side of things)

I always thought the Surface Book design by Microsoft was very Apple like and it always seemed like the logical step: let the screen detach but keep the extra horsepower in the base.

Using transit or roads outside of normal commuting hours?? How suspicious. Driving somewhere without a destination? Suspicious.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:04PM (#50262221)
The one place where size and thickness don't matter is when it's a non-portable device.

I'm surprised they haven't yet gone the route of making a hyper thin screen and hiding the actual cpu somewhere else (something akin tot he puck for the Apple Vision display). Hell you could probably do a proprietary wireless signal and have the display be completely detached. (Or existing wifi6 or something?)

The edges of the thin monitor could be actual transparent glass.

Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:58PM (#50262120)
I agree. In the case of the older 27" iMacs-- you couldn't really get a 5K screen of that quality for any reasonable cost. It made it actually useful.
Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:57PM (#50262090)
It's like a 24" MacBook Pro with no keyboard and less portable?

If it were back to 27" and hidpi screen again it might make sense

Now players and teams will be displayed on screen with odds baked into the presentation and have it not even addressed by the commentator. Just normalized completely.
Who could have predicted this?!

But also, this shouldn't be allowed in any major sport wife they use any kind of public funds.

But, his dad:

I don’t see how to read it any other way. Explain?

How far away is communism from me?
Ad campaign? We are lucky they didn’t make the settlement in “Meta Quest Cash” or “Ad Buy Credit”
That’s all framing. If they use the win for their reelection campaign…they just won’t mention the appeals process.
