That conclusions section … publisher may want to reconsider whether this damages their brand. I certainly view this article as BS
Some people get depressed, the "smarter" ones write about it more.

yah; clearly author knows far less than he thinks
Re:So you want to build a house more efficiently on Saturday June 26, 2021 @07:01PM (#27646800)
i think balloon framing fell out of favor because

1. the length of timber required for two story structures is not efficient; old growth stuff has been felled and straight, seasoned, 24 and 36 foot lengths of wood are tough to find

2. and fire; platform framing has far better fire control

Re:I was let go for refusing to deploy a dark pattern on Friday June 25, 2021 @08:53AM (#27630129)
The bigger smell is no version control :D Saving emails `onBlur()` is probably not a dark pattern.
Re:The work-from-home future is destroying bosses' brains on Thursday June 10, 2021 @11:26PM (#27468933)
Productivity cargo cult will never die. Enterprise is predicated on this; but let's take the obverse of this cynicism: there are jobs, and people in them. This serves its own purpose.
Re:Keep Your Identity Small (2009) on Sunday June 06, 2021 @10:50PM (#27418493)
Ha, this is the bane of design. You don't need any particular expertise, you just have to like or dislike something. Product managers, you know who you are.
Re:What Oxford taught me about posh people on Monday May 31, 2021 @11:25PM (#27350450)
Glug, even talking about class is itself a class marker. Get new money and wait it out, or deal with it. Fortunes are made through malice

Using Scott Adams to defend your position is … yah. Credibility destroyed.

Use what is in the standard distro. Don’t go too far downstream. MacVim/gVim
Re:So what’s wrong with 1975 programming? (2006) on Tuesday May 11, 2021 @06:27PM (#27124392)
Thank you, but there’s hardly any point in arguing with a rock. You might be making great points, but at the end of the day, observers see a man talking to a rock. The rock may roll at some point, through forces beyond yourself
Re:Just Use Email – How to Use Email for Everything on Tuesday May 11, 2021 @06:22PM (#27124346)
To put this into context and understand where the puck even is, my daughter (18 y old, freshman in college), last sent me an email in 2017. Before that, one in 2016, and one in 2015
Re:So what’s wrong with 1975 programming? (2006) on Sunday May 09, 2021 @10:59AM (#27096448)
Yeah, that is a really bad take. Remind me again why women drop out of engineering teams. To frame this triggering statement, imagine if he had somehow used breasts to make the same analogy. He’d be in a heap of trouble, prob LIFO’d out of his job
Re:Dark Matter: The Situation Has Changed on Saturday May 08, 2021 @08:42PM (#27092127)
Yes, _based on all current observations_ … which have missing areas where `G` fits nicely. Believe me, I get it. Facts, science, then imagination.

Did you read the article, however? What she's mulling over is the idea of different gravitational fields, and reconciling that with quantum theory along with "classic" Newtonian and Einsteinian physics.

Re:Dark Matter: The Situation Has Changed on Saturday May 08, 2021 @08:21PM (#27092020)
Thank you. I've added a reply to clarify as edit window has passed.
Re:Dark Matter: The Situation Has Changed on Saturday May 08, 2021 @08:20PM (#27092015)
Added detail:

Ever since I first encountered G, I always wondered, "is gravity really constant? Is it emergent from 'the universe', or from matter?"

This eventually led to thinking about, "well maybe gravity has more or different properties than G".

As evidenced by the link to a typical comment from me above, these thoughts are always dismissed out of hand. For good reason. But now that a "legit" particle physicist is raising these questions, I hope to see some movement.

No worries, CUDA (non)support on Mac is clearly directly created by Apple

Ok, please put all your savings into shorting an index of all current solar companies
Re:Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average on Saturday May 08, 2021 @03:37PM (#27090034)
Weren’t you pontificating on stock investment strategies? I’m going to need bonafides.
Re:Inefficient Efficiency (2019) on Saturday May 08, 2021 @03:36PM (#27090022)
What’s wrong with brewing twice as much and then pouring it into two cups?
Re:Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average on Friday April 30, 2021 @10:31AM (#26993957)
The store of value is the infrastructure, edifices, and monuments of intellectual capital. Geez man, how much more parroting can you do? Would your comment history reveal talk of “NFTs wtf amirite!!!”
Re:Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average on Friday April 30, 2021 @10:29AM (#26993925)
Please let us know, on a percentage basis of you earnings, how much is allocated to personally managed stock portfolio?
Re:Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average on Friday April 30, 2021 @10:27AM (#26993899)
When S&P plunges more than 10%, buybuybuy. 30%? Shit go full margin and back up the truck. I’m sitting on 2x since Dec.

Protips. Saas is the thesis. Long term solar is a 100x-1000x easy-ish bet. Capture is “good enough”, we are going to solve storage. Transmission will significantly collapse into storage. Game will change. The entire energy game.

Re:Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average on Friday April 30, 2021 @10:22AM (#26993838)
Isn’t it the case that for *any* arbitrary 30 year period of S&P, the worst you could do is 2x, and the best 1000x? And the mode something like 10x

For 20 years it reduces where I think some periods could actually produce flat or slightly negative, but the best and mode are still up in that range.

Hey, yeah. Investing is “risky”. Keep “working on your career”, and squirrel away into 401ks then.

Re:Cycles X on Friday April 30, 2021 @10:11AM (#26993691)
This is a really weird response.

1. Nowhere did I mention Blender, although yes, this is a primary gripe

2. Even if I had, where does the inference that Blender somehow drove this come from?

3. Why leave out Metal2 and AMD frome the discussion?

“We thought of life by analogy with a journey, a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end, success or whatever it is, maybe heaven after you’re dead. But we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played.”

All I know is, this better bypass the dumb AF "MAc OS can't use CUDA drivers with the discrete GPU"

Like, why tf did i buy the macbook pro with expensive discrete GPU and can't even use it to render GPU accelerated 3D. Seems like a primary use case
