Re:Can AI automate AI R&D yet? on Sunday October 11, 2026 @07:04AM (#50041881)
This is analogous to “I saw Abe Lincoln at the hall of presidents at Disney.” and insisting it was really Abe Lincoln.

It is infantilizing to suggest this is originality or creativity just as much as it is to suggest David copperfield is a scientist.

It is an illusion. A subterfuge being performed by the puppeteer. It works due to the theft of human’s work.

Ask yourself, "What are this creative engine's sensory inputs to experience life?"

"What can this creative engine tell me about the experience of life from its own direct inputs?"

"How does it blend/shape or re-interpret raw input direct sensory data with the, admittedly, astounding body of knowledge it has about creative work?"

"What form of change or growth has this engine experienced that teaches us about ourselves?"

If you take those questions seriously you will come to the same conclusion. It is a Roomba smearing the valuable creative work of millions like dog shit across the living room floor, not a consciousness experiencing the agony and ecstacy of life.

If you think I am wrong ask an AI. It won't come up with an original answer, but it can certainly tell you whether the collective body of slightly-outdated human knowledge thinks I am correct.

That is not true at all. As I previously stated: reference, stealing well, blending styles in new ways that obey or break the rules of your art form… what appears random to outsiders is a story that follows as naturally as 2 after 1 if you understand the context.

Until an AI can have desires or experience life it cannot tell a story.

Even if it could it is questionable if such alien experience qualifies as story.

It can retell stories. It can swirl around extant media like a child playing with its dinner. It cannot blend in its own lived and new perspectives which is what gives new art value.

Creativity unbound by reference is not even dada (which was reactionary) it is noise

IKEA provides mounting brackets and discloses safety risks but a child may still pull it from the wall and be crushed under its weight.

Only barbarians would attempt a farcical judgement of law or punish the bookcase.

Thats what it comes down to.

I feel it would be effective and prudent to protest the current use of AI and to effectively unionize and ostracize AI use until many of these demands are met. The companies that own the models and the infrastructure will never be more vulnerable. They have fired a salvo. Fire Back.

This is Discord for many folks. You have voice/video channels alongside your text chats. Anyone can hop on into any themed voice/video channel at any time with the added bonus of screen-sharing game content.
If they had 5x margins and a scalable business plan they wouldnt be on wordpress
Add to that predictable flat pricing. If most Wordpress sites became famous overnight I guarantee 90% of users would rather the site go down than figure out what to do with 15 minutes of fame and a 50k hosting bill
Where’s my atomic bomb sold at Walmart?
The key point here is hypocrisy. The very evident double standard.

A person holding a camera and following you around is an emergency or at the very least a suspicious act worthy of investigation and possible arrest.

A person attaching hundreds of thousands of cameras to poles calling the police to report this act is what is noteworthy.

Its not clickbait in the normal sense of overselling a series of un-noteworthy events IMHO.

Rick and Morty. Procgen surfaces but a human story under every furniture-aliens-sit-on-humans multiverse.

Or alternatively Scavengers Reign

Personally I want spelljammer. Baldurs Gate meets Sea of Thieves in space with 80s killer clowns

There is so much drama that can happen there and the scale is the least of it.

Sure, killing robots would stimulate the economy but I’d like to see robot victims reduce the surplus population!

They’ll never match real children when it comes to dying horribly.

Re:If your agent commits a crime, who is responsible? on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @08:01PM (#49368805)
An even better analogy is if my dog attacks someone I am still liable. We have a clear standard: If your property commits a crime you are responsible even if your property thinks and acts independently.
There are a few exceptions, I live in an odd neighborhood where a group got together and rehabbed a bunch of dilapidated homes facing an alley. They got permission from the city to make the alley a pedestrian mall and green space. Our HOA exists to maintain the pedestrian mall that is essentially our front yard.

But is a hotdog a sandwich?
The point of the story is to know the difference between “enough” and a compulsion to achieve that your burden keeps you from enjoying your life.

I hope some day you can appreciate it.

The connotation of drastic always being negative is through common usage and not strict definition. See: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/drastically

Using drastic in this instance is an appropriate, but rare, usage in a positive sense. You are correct that dramatic would be a more commonly used neutral synonym, but using drastic is technically just fine here. It is only slightly odd usage by common practice, but as a native english speaker I hardly noticed it until you pointed it out.

By using a less common word and outside of the common usage of that word, to my ear this adds emphasis, like reading the word in BOLD text or capitalized.

I told this joke at my father's funeral. He grew up poor but he had a different mindset and I think it speaks to his character and what he instilled in me:

"A successful business man from New York goes on vacation in a Mexican seaside town. He takes a walk down to the beach mid morning and sees a fisherman coming in with his catch. 'Wow, those are some beautiful fish. Tell me, what will you do the rest of the day?'

The fisherman replies, 'I will take my fish to the market, go home and take a nap, have lunch, play with my children for a bit, then go into town and drink wine and play music with my friends, and finally go home in the evening and make love to my wife.'

The business man replies, 'But if you stayed out all day catching fish you could make far more money!'

The fisherman says, 'well, then what?'

'You could buy another boat and hire some of the young men in town to fish for you and then start making an even bigger profit!'

The fisherman says, 'well, then what?'

'You could open a cannery by the dock and process the fish to be packaged and sold to other cities in other markets and make even more money!'

The fisherman says, 'well, then what?'

'You could retire to a small seaside town, do a little fishing in the morning, go home and take a nap, play with your children, play music with your friends, drink some wine, and go home to make love to your wife.'

My Mark Cuban anecdote is meeting him at Obama Headquarters in 2012. He would not shut up about Dyson hand dryers.

He's like an autistic frat boy. Charismatic and attention seeking, you want to listen to him and then you realize you've been deeply engrossed in a recitation of Sonic the Hedgehog fan fiction for 2 1/2 hours.

I don’t understand what there is to gain for anyone by making the implicit system we have today explicit?
Thanks for the insight! Really wish they had easier cheaper ways to learn.
What I’m reading is this use case is for 3-5 days a week full time dev if you stick to off hours US time. That you can save significantly if you have spiky usage 1-2 days a week by going the ad hoc API route if you’re new and you need to install a bunch of monitoring tools to tell you how best to save week to eeek as your usage patterns change and you risk surprise bills in the 10s of thousands if you get it wrong.
I've been putting off learning Claude and this article had me strongly considering jumping in. Then I looked up Anthropic pricing and its 100x more convoluted than cloud services management. Its a goddamn full time job and independent skill set figuring out how to prevent going bankrupt from AI usage!

I think I'm gonna be a late adopter on this one until the industry figures out a less cumbersome pricing model.

Isn’t it a running joke at this point that if you do what customers ask instead of focusing on the highest quality of service you get worse outcomes and the customer is still unhappy?

“All best spots are already used”, is not even close to true for the US. We have barely begun to explore and evaluate potential sites and I see this as a huge future growth industry
Re:How to Hide from Killer Drones on Saturday July 11, 2026 @06:42PM (#48876540)
There is video out of Ukraine of Russians with shotguns shooting at drones. It’s not very effective.
hmm good question.
War is inherently amoral and in an argument about its efficacy I don’t understand what your argument is?
Re:Yes, AI Will Take Your Job on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @12:18PM (#48819931)
My takeaway was that the purpose of AI is not to do “your job” as well as you but to do the things you refuse to do in your job as a person with taste and ethics.
