Playing without the intention of treating it as a sport, but as an excuse to drink outdoors.

The only items in that list that require less than 10 servings to get to 2000 calories are the ones with serving sizes that are twice as large. Not even remotely comparable.

I believe they meant carved, as in into stone. "Roman block lettering avoids curves because it was often carved."

Blessed is pretty incredible. For dashboard like apps specifically, blessed-contrib is a huge time saver.

I'm sad this is all the way at the bottom, but I can't say I'm surprised.
Re:Would a Work-Free World Be So Bad? on Tuesday July 05, 2016 @03:59PM (#12039096)
Cleveland doesn't have much going for it, but our parks and trails are truly incredible. The Cleveland Metroparks are a definite source of pride for North East Ohio.
"This isn't new, but I do wonder if the net is amplifying it."

I don't know about amplifying it, but it's certainly revealing that there are much better opportunities out there. Working in the midwest and reading about the coasts is depressing as hell.

I know that feeling all too well :(

No time spent playing Overwatch is time wasted.

Re:US Cellular Now a Part of Project Fi's Network on Thursday June 09, 2016 @09:06AM (#11869081)
Probably best summed up with "Nothing beats Verizon, unfortunately". I primarily use WiFi calling as I live in a gigantic concrete building facing the lake so I get literally zero cellular reception in my apartment.

It's 100 minutes a month if I'm not mistaken. Can't say for sure if the plan still exists, but it's almost impossible to find any advertising regarding it. You have to specifically ask for it like those quesadillas at Chipotle. I was happy with it for a couple years but switched to google Fi when I got my Nexus 6P and I'm perfectly happy with it.
Re:Crying on Friday May 27, 2016 @03:47PM (#11788435)
One thing I noticed is that the breakup basically drowned out all the other triggers for crying.
> All of your needs as a human being are met. All of the needs of your friends and family are met. Can you not imagine how much easier it would be to advance toward a "social utopia"?

This is the case for basically everyone I know, and I'd imagine this being the case for a lot of the people here. But we're not advancing to a social utopia.

The quote "Conservatives think Liberals are stupid, Liberals think Conservatives are evil" seems to apply here.
That unwillingness kind of invalidates a lot of peoples complaints though.
Where is this magical place you live?
I've lived in Cleveland my entire life. It's not that bad :(
Generally that means that the roommate would still be on the lease. Which is generally incentive enough for someone not to bail on a lease.
Re:What is the best part about being a Software Engineer? on Thursday April 28, 2016 @09:46AM (#11588761)
TIL I make less than a steelwork in 1975.
This surprises me. I was extremely skeptical of thee whole retina thing before I got a chance to use it. Now I can't see myself ever buying something with less pixel density.
I would bet money this was for an extremely stubborn and ill-informed client.
Re:ES6 is beautiful on Thursday April 07, 2016 @02:59PM (#11449686)
A lot of the criticism seems to be from people who will never like JS. I've always loved JS (for whatever reason) so ES6 is a godsend.
Re:My Biggest Regret as a Programmer on Wednesday April 06, 2016 @02:39PM (#11440776)
Oh I do. But I hear this a lot more than I see it, especially in the Midwest without a degree.
Re:My Biggest Regret as a Programmer on Wednesday April 06, 2016 @11:35AM (#11439447)
I live in a place with a slightly higher COL and make about that with no benefits. I also have about 4 years experience. Some people just make shitty career choices or don't get lucky/unlucky.
Re:Finnish Filmmakers Gave a Drone a Chainsaw on Monday April 04, 2016 @01:08PM (#11423509)
And balloons. If this was fake, I'd imagine they would have made it more impressive.
Re:A Saner Windows Command Line on Wednesday March 30, 2016 @09:30AM (#11389074)
I think you're correct on this one. I ran into this issue once and it was some silly, easily fixed issue. Sadly I don't remember what it was.
Re:We only hire the trendiest on Monday March 21, 2016 @02:31PM (#11330514)
I think in general, you are correct about the skill difference between contractors. But there is more to it than just that. Low end contractors don't choose that path, they end up their because they either, like you said, are low skill, or because they made career mistakes and need to get back on track. I would definitely fall into the latter group.
Re:We Hire the Best, Just Like Everyone Else on Friday March 04, 2016 @01:01PM (#11225569)
My first job hired me with zero programming experience because they thought this. I like to think I turned out ok, but I strongly disagree with the sentiment. A more accurate statement would be "You can train most people to be relatively competent at average programming tasks."
Re:We Hire the Best, Just Like Everyone Else on Friday March 04, 2016 @12:56PM (#11225522)
As a midwesterner who's working as a "consultant", one thing I can say is I don't get benefits, so that's an obvious plus for them.
Re:We Hire the Best, Just Like Everyone Else on Friday March 04, 2016 @12:37PM (#11225375)
It was too long but of course I didn't realize it at the time. From what I've gathered, as long as it isn't with every job, you don't have to stay that long.

But don't take my career advice. I only really know what not to do at this point.
