Re:Write a note to your spouse every day on Tuesday August 09, 2022 @04:07AM (#32395351)
This would drive me up the wall but each to their own.

The avocado test was good but it would have been even better if he'd picked up a non-organic one and he'd been charged for that instead of the organic one he'd misplaced there earlier.
Re:We shouldn’t push a positive mindset on those in poverty on Saturday February 19, 2022 @09:24AM (#30397328)
My parents will die thinking people decide to be poor.
This reminds me of the Trump ‘Four Seasons’ media event.
Fascinating if one person is interviewing for many roles then sending in proxies to do the jobs in return for a kickback.
Isn’t it Robin’s debt to repay to the genuine cardholder?
Re:Procrastinatory Doom Loops on Friday January 07, 2022 @04:29AM (#29837008)
Reminds me of the 'study with me' YouTube videos - try some, it's weird!
Re:YouTube is testing people now? on Friday December 24, 2021 @01:30PM (#29676256)
YT Premium gives me a lot - YT is transformed when you don’t have ads, can have it playing in the background while on another app (there’s a Picture in Picture beta I’m using at the moment which works great). Also downloads and Music.
Re:Excerpt from CIA's Simple Sabotage Field Manual (1944) on Sunday December 19, 2021 @04:12AM (#29612506)
Is this a satire on business today?
Re:There's been a big rise in monitoring workers at home on Friday December 17, 2021 @10:17AM (#29593260)
When you leave a job, voluntarily or not, it's amazing how long it takes for that job to leave your mental system. A year later I still find myself occasionally wondering whether a project went well or more recently after I left I'd still have the monthly work schedule in my mind. It requires discipline/distraction to free yourself!
Automation should be removed from the hiring process.
Companies can move faster because they don’t spend public money so have fewer rules to follow.

If we let USPS function in the same way Amazon does (eg scrapping unprofitable activity) you’d see changes but USPS is providing a service for the public good.

Plus arguably politicians don’t benefit from creating an amazing USPS though who knows why.

In case not obvious I’m living on my own - I can see that normal TV viewing is more of a communal/social thing.
Enjoyed reading this. As much as I feel guilty watching YouTube I do at least feel I am doing something slightly more proactive than watching legacy TV or streaming in that I’m having to search for stuff that solves a need for me at that time, or at least judge how effective the YT algorithm is. I’m lucky to have the BBC and value it as an impartial news organisation but I haven’t watched one of their (or ITV or others) programmes for at least 5 years, even on iPlayer. It’s all YouTube for me and I don’t begrudge the Premium subscription at all - it’s changed my life so much for the better.
Re:Don’t do interviews, do discussions on Monday November 08, 2021 @03:50AM (#29147324)
Interviews have the benefit of appearing equal at least - everyone is asked exactly the same questions. Discussions might run the risk of appearing to give some people an easier ride than others.
Re:Students pay price for UM diversity goals (2019) on Monday November 08, 2021 @03:45AM (#29147289)
What would help my understanding is knowing what diversity staff do that increases diversity among students.
Re:The fast-food workers’ season of rebellion on Sunday November 07, 2021 @01:19AM (#29137015)
I think something like 2.1 births per woman for a stable population not incl migration in/out. In the U.K. it’s 1.65 but I’m not too bothered.
Re:How I motivate myself to write on Sunday October 31, 2021 @07:16AM (#29056178)
What motivates me to create is a vague memory of what the process gives me back - especially in tough times.
Why don’t they put these sums into crypto ?
A few days ago there was an online thing on the Guardian site for people to add stories like this of their own experience.
Re:Google employees who work from home could lose money on Tuesday August 10, 2021 @07:40AM (#28127580)
Endless loop: you need a higher salary to live where you have space to work from home.
Can’t the blockchain help with misidentifying individuals?

As for the photo scanning isn’t it already happening?

There isn’t a safe amount of alcohol unfortunately. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/may/18/any-amount-o...
It’s crass, unnecessary and disrespectful of AB’s memory.
Re:Apple Maps vs. Google Maps on Saturday July 10, 2021 @03:00PM (#27795617)
Apple Maps in London UK is pretty bad with business info - I’ve had to make correction reports for a few things in my neighbourhood I never have to for Google Maps.
I agree but if 100,000 homes became available tomorrow in London they’d sell in an instant. I don’t think any number will solve it - the problem is existing homes not being lived in and being used as income.
Re:Tesla Q1 2021 Results on Tuesday April 27, 2021 @02:37AM (#26952763)
Part of the fun is how Elon has to discuss everything from battery technology to ‘roof protuberances’.
It’s interesting to see the word ‘pollution’ seems to have been completely replaced by ‘emission’. I guess the car industry won?
It’s weird because I associate car ownership with wealth! I’m in my 40s in London in the UK earning an ok salary and neither me nor many of many friends have a car.
Re:Just Be Rich on Tuesday April 13, 2021 @08:37AM (#26791363)
But politicians can (and should in my opinion) make car ownership less attractive.
