There is an artificial shortage of physicians. The number of people that graduate from medical school >> than the number of residency slots.
Re:Emotion-detecting tech should be restricted by law on Sunday December 15, 2019 @06:12PM (#21799639)
So I guess with my anxiety disorder even computers will think “I have something to hide” because I look nervous. Jesus christ this world is a dystopia.

After 15 years you get 26 days.
Re:GitHub tries to quell employee anger over its ICE contract on Thursday October 31, 2019 @10:26PM (#21415772)
Don’t understand the downvotes to my comment. The person I am responding to said “Should we stop making guns because someone might kill another person”. That is in fact one of the main reasons of guns, specifically because they are used to kill other people. I didn’t downvote that comment, I did not pass any moral judgement on guns. Instead of silently downvoting, it would be better to explain why you disagree with my comment. I believe I am operating in good faith here.

Guns and fertilizer are very different products. Guns were specifically developed with the purpose of killing. Their main use besides recreation is killing people.
Re:React Concurrent Mode on Friday October 25, 2019 @03:46PM (#21358564)
Agreed. I loved React and now only like it. The app I work on at work is an absolute monstrosity with render props and context. You can say oh don’t use if you don’t like it! But in the real world you are forced to use others code.

Mississippi just throws them in jail.
Re:We Need to Dream Bigger Than Bike Lanes on Wednesday October 23, 2019 @05:52PM (#21339429)
Yup cycling is so dumb here. I bike 20 miles a day on the weekend but don’t commute by bike because of how bad the infrastructure is.
Re:Edward Snowden on The Joe Rogan Experience [video] on Wednesday October 23, 2019 @12:59PM (#21336562)
I love the long form discussion. I feel I can actually here someones thoughts and perspectives rather than short meaningless soundbites. The lack of guests shouting over each other is great as well. He has also exposed me to some wonderful thinkers like Sean Carrol who I otherwise would not have come across.
Most engineers are average. If you are above average you are likely working at a company that pays above average.
Re:Gridsome – A Vue.js static site generator on Friday October 18, 2019 @10:32AM (#21291693)
Ah thanks for the explanation.
Re:Gridsome – A Vue.js static site generator on Friday October 18, 2019 @10:31AM (#21291676)
I went to both Hugo and Jekyll sites. I did not see an explanation. Maybe I will try to build something and then I will understand.
Re:Gridsome – A Vue.js static site generator on Friday October 18, 2019 @10:23AM (#21291603)
Dumb question, but why do you need a static site generator vs just writing an html file?
Re:The outcry over deaths on Amazon's warehouse floor on Friday October 18, 2019 @10:18AM (#21291555)
I read it a while ago and wish I hadn’t. It was quite disturbing. Read at your own risk.
Re:The outcry over deaths on Amazon's warehouse floor on Friday October 18, 2019 @10:06AM (#21291444)
I had a friend who worked as a software engineer at a big retail company that wasn’t Amazon. They had a tour at a distribution center. The place was a death trap. He got a bad concussion by walking into a low ceiling. No hard hats, no warning about it nothing.
