News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

It's more complicated than that. Inflation is a combination of supply and demand. Too few goods for an extended period of time? Inflation. Excess money allowing people to bid up for the goods they want? Inflation.

A sudden reduction of debt might contribute to people spending more for the same goods they already buy, or it might lead to more savings and investment as people are able to escape living paycheck to paycheck and start entering stock markets. It might mean they are able to buy goods and services they couldn't before, but those goods might have ample supply.

It's just not as simple as, X therefore inflation.

Right, they change the who from "former student" to "no one".
A huge group of Americans have less than $1000 in the bank. A student loan of $20k can still be a huge financial hardship for them.

Yes, all outlets are biased. It is literally impossible to have a neutral news source.

But there's a world of difference between, say, a random article on the BBC and Alex Jones saying the kids in Sandy Hook were crisis actors.

I think we can agree that there is a material difference there.

No, I'm not debating it. I'm asserting it. It is not a subject of debate. You might as well debate the existence of left handed people.

So no, no debate. Your positions are factually wrong.

Almost everyone isn't red haired, doesn't make it ok to exclude red haired people just because they represent 3% of the population.
I'm saying there are gay men in all countries, whether they are in the open or not. Their existence might be underground or behind closed doors, but they are there.
You do not see the hypocrisy in your position?

Homosexuality is not unique to humans, it's common in the animal kingdom (including humans) and only unusual in some countries for cultural reasons.

It's also universal among all countries around the world. Just some criminalize it.

> it's also true that the state has no obligation to subsidize particular lifestyles

So you oppose heterosexual marriage as well? As it is also a particular lifestyle.

I have panniers and a cargo rack on the front and back, I've carried six or seven bags of groceries without having to think hard. I've carried a car seat and two large plastic totes at the same time with a bit of Bungie cording.
I have a tern, it's amazing. I can bike at 30mph, most of my errands within a ten mile trip are doable on bike. I do grocery shopping, cargo delivery, a bunch of stuff. It doesn't replace a car for all trips, but you'd be surprised how many trips it replaces.
The people who buy $100k cars will usually refresh them on the regular, passing the car down to another buyer.

But also, the older Tesla's do not and cannot have the hardware for FSD so they really are EoL in that respect.

Yeah? It was a toy then, and it's a toy now.

Yes, it's a much better toy, but it's still a toy.

If they actually do something impossible, sure, it'll be worth some money. But even then, why would individuals ever be able to participate in that market?

If it's a sure thing, companies (including Tesla) will buy many cars and run the value as low as they can.

But why? Is it because the early adopters were paying for a product that would never work?

Feels like a good opportunity for a class action...

It's shocking to me that anyone would pay for this. Tesla has been selling fsd since 2014, and nearly a decade later they aren't that much closer.

Between the low reliability, low build quality, and scammy practices, Tesla has turned their lead into a vulnerability.

Once other manufacturers catch up to the battery range, Tesla will have their lunch eaten.

And I say this as someone who has owned a Tesla for over 8 years.

Full self driving - the snake oil Tesla sells to improve their bottom line.

"There's plenty of space, grow wide."

"That land is in use already."

"Lololol strawman! No u!"

Alright, sure.

Interesting. Now I'm wondering if I can check my own genome from data from 23&me to see if I have any unusual variants.
Almost certainly undiagnosed. A similar thing happened when we stopped stigmatizing left handedness. There was a sharp increase in lefties over the next decade, then it leveled off at whatever the natural point is.

I expect autism, depression, trans identities, lgb identities, etc. are all things that are becoming more accepted and we're going to see a sharp rise in them followed by them leveling off at whatever the natural level is.

Maybe it was challenging before, but honestly, getting enough iron and protein in a vegan diet today is pretty trivial. There are plant based alternatives to more or less everything these days.

I'm vegetarian,, and only for 3 or 4 years, but honestly there's nothing really missing at all for me.

So no, you can't find any?
My experience doesn't match yours, we probably roll in different circles.

Agreed on Latinx vs the more pronounceable latin@/latinao.

That's typically how it's done, yeah. Intentional communities will often market themselves specifically as walkable or transit adjacent.

But there's no reason not to take the things that work well in them and bring them elsewhere. Traffic separated bike lanes and Dutch style intersections are common sense improvements that we can build that improve access without requiring a car.

I don't want housing to be an investment. But I also own a house that will inevitably be treated like one because that's the currently supported cultural standard.

I don't think ordinary folks should lose their shirts off their backs if they lose their homes. Sure, I have zero sympathy for the investors who are manipulating markets, but the every day worker? Nah.

Show me land on the periphery of an urban center that's large enough to meaningfully expand housing that isn't farmland, rangeland, forestry, or a protected habitat/important ecological preserve.

I'll wait, take your time.

Hell, for a long time the Irish and Italians weren't considered "white".
What. You realize that much of mainstream culture is drawn from the queer Black community, right? Voguing, house music, slang like "yas queen", "slay", "shade", and "tea", Pride parades, and more.

And that BIPOC cultures have a history of third gender peoples? Two Spirit, fa'afafine, chibados, muxe, sipniq, etc.

To say these things only exist because of white liberal sexuality is patently absurd.

It... Doesn't have to mean any of those things? Trains and bikes (and ebikes) and scooters and sidewalks and buses and trolleys and streetcars exist.

You don't have to design around the car...

Totally. I'm a Marxist and I have no idea where half the complaints about socialists even come from. People just make up a bogeyman and slap the "socialism" label on it.
