We will see Dive-Shahed come and Trump-class battleships will be blown away...
I’m not trying to add fuel to the fire, but will OpenAI and Anthropic’s IPO go smoothly?
Why is this flagged?

It's time to sell hedge fund stocks!! Jokes aside, I took the CFA exam last week and now I'm starting to worry about my career...
Re:OMSCS Open Courseware on Saturday December 06, 2025 @04:54PM (#46176897)
I once considered applying, but I gave up because collecting letters of recommendation was a major hurdle. My academic advisor from university has already retired…

How do you all deal with this?

Is this sarcasm, or saying this in a straight face?
Re:WebDAV Isn't Dead Yet on Saturday October 25, 2025 @06:19PM (#45707437)
Just like the author, I use WebDAV for Joplin, also Zotero. Just love them so much.

We need to keep using open protocols such as WebDAV instead of depending on proprietary APIs like the S3 API.

As a Japanese person, I think that Japan before World War II was probably seen by the world much like Israel is seen today. The difference is that Israel has the United States backing it.
Totally agree. I wish we have something like Pix in Japan.

Their transaction fee is quite cheap, so small businesses earn more money and reinvest their revenue, rather than having it taken by Visa or Mastercards.

Just get JCB cards. Done.
It looks really interesting.

I am a big fan of Yanis’ book: "Technofeudalism: what killed capitalism", which lacks quantitative evidence to support his theory. I would like to see this kind of research or empirical studies.

Can I find a non-US HN like news forum where I can find interesting news or comments aboout technologies?
As a happy GrapheneOS user, I just want to say thank you to the people behind the project.

Re:Mozilla Advertising on Saturday January 04, 2025 @09:34AM (#42594873)
I think Mozilla is doing really important works incl. Firefox, Thunderbird, Llamafile and so on. I use them heavily and I want to keep supporting their works. However, their management keep doing shitty things like this.

I don't believe that privacy and advertising can coexist. I use Firefox specifically because I don't want to see ads, yet Mozilla is trying to push ads, which is a glaring contradiction. I'm worried that this could lead to their eventual disappearance in the future.

Re:GnuCash 5.9 Released on Monday September 30, 2024 @10:46PM (#41704205)
I kind of surprised to see lots of hatered to GnuCash. What are your usecases? I run cafe business in Japan, but it does everything I need.
Re:Ask HN: Disillusioned after AI? on Tuesday May 14, 2024 @07:57PM (#40361511)
One possible issue with the increasing adoption of AI is the potential for humans to lose their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As we come to rely more heavily on AI systems for assistance, there is a risk that individuals may become less self-reliant and less skilled at addressing complex issues on their own. This could lead to a gradual erosion of human intellectual capabilities, as we offload more of our cognitive tasks to AI.

Another concern is the potential disappearance of entry-level positions for junior developers due to AI-driven automation. As AI systems become more sophisticated and capable of performing tasks once reserved for human programmers, the job market may undergo a significant shift. This could make it increasingly difficult for newcomers to the field to gain a foothold and establish their careers.

Re:NeurIPS 2023: Expo Day on Monday December 11, 2023 @02:14AM (#38598351)
I attended several talks hosted by financial institutions, because I also in the industry. Unfortunately, I found that their presentations were somewhat high-level and abstract. It seemed as though the primary purpose of these talks was recruitment, rather than sharing their valuable expertise or experience, which I could easily expect given the industry's tendency to be secretive.

On the positive side, I also attended a presentation by Mathworks, which I found quite informative and easy to digest.

Re:YouTube's Ad Blocker Crackdown Spurs Record Uninstalls on Friday November 03, 2023 @10:30AM (#38129345)
That's great! Thank you for keep supporting Youtube!
Agreed. I have a shiba dog, and he is super cute!

However, I have to take him out for walk more than an hour EverySingleDay. So, I have to spend more than 400 hours a year, i.e. 4000 hours for ten years. To be honest, spending 4000 hours is enough for making you a semi-professional in any fields. So, I don't recommend having a dog, unless you are literally CRAZY about dogs.

Re:Firefox has surpassed Chrome on Speedometer on Tuesday July 18, 2023 @11:28AM (#36774054)
I don't care about performance if differences are negligible enough.

I support Firefox because competition makes market healthier. Current status of Manifest v.3 is a shining example.

I've been thinking a similar thing. Distributing cryptos to those who contributed for training models is one idea. Later you might use that coin to run the trained model.
Also, worse tha Japan? (I guess we are always bottom 2 among G20 countries)
Well, that sounds exciting, but I am a novice programmer from data science field. So, I am more like a user, rather than a developer.

Contributing to world class projects such as Postgres sounds cool, but doesn't it take years of experience?

Of course there are other benefit of learning C as you noted.

Yeah, haste makes waste. I will give it a shot! Thanks for the tips!
I started learning some Rust, just begging of this yeae, and I am starting to think learning C might be the shortest path to fully understand the motivation of ownership model.

But at the same time, I don't want to invest so much time into learning a language which I probably am not going to use.

I am probably being disrespectful. I understand a lot of people use C, including Linux kernel devs, but I cannot imagine developing new apps with an old language such as C.
