All rust code is UB because there is no spec. I don't mean this as a knock against rust, but against UB fear.
Looking up information is vastly different than asking it to produce code to be included in a product.
It's something as small as throwing in a milk shake with lunch. you don't experience the money leaving.
Studies show you buy more with a credit card than cash. You think you're saving 1-3% but you would easily save that with slightly more conservative spending.
It's also worth mentioning the real business is analyzing the consumer data you give them for pennies.
I would guess 80% of the career value is captured by satisfying admissions and graduating. I think the actual grading isn't looked at except to rank similar peers for admission to other competitive programs.
You may be willing to make the tradeoff, but you should acknowledge the downsides.
The most extreme example is in academia where they get a lot of stability in exchange for an excruciating job hunt and interview process. And if they don't like the job, they are stuck.
I would rather have a world where we can take a chance on someone, then not. If you have all your ducks in a polished row, and look and act the right way, maybe you prefer protection against that.
And they afforded that working a job at a furniture store with no degree at age 24.
Exactly the system is insane. If you wonder who would take the other side of the deal, you're right nobody would.
Home ownership is political and the gov will buy any mortgage especially from minority groups.
This kind of thing is why we have such long interview cycles and strong bias against false positives
For that to explain the gap I think you would have to consider how many of those employees who get written up live with their families vs more detached living arrangements. With that consideration, it seems unlikely that change alone could make up 15% for the overall group.
That was my guess. A 14% reduction in efficiency or perhaps just hours worked sounds about right.
Because they also have vastly different cultures and shared understandings which often require skilled management.
Yes? Everyone benefits from a standard specification.
Besides, most windows devs are using Ubuntu or cygwin. Or they just the ide for their environment and would never touch a CLI
Each thread opens its own connection. Set a non-zero timeout. I think that's all you need.
So it sounds like the fix is available with an update. What more do you want?
Those are good complaints but what's far more valuable is:
- Unix standard
- documentation
- established knowledge
- existing code bases
- stable and well tested
Sounds like we are in agreement, but I would include other non profits in that same abuse.
Those thinkers I've read (Locke, Hume, Voltaire, Descartes, Leibniz) also have nothing in mind that resembles a melting pot for the world's cultures and religions. One again the historical context is being tired of endless wars between protestants and Catholics and often being a member of a tiny minority of aetheists and deists.
The brand of humanism you are associating with is a much later development.
Do you think it is possible to accommodate all those religions in one government?
I agree with you that it's not a golden cow, but I typically have to question posts like this one to get that admission. Claiming authority from the constitution when you don't believe in it is a cheap rhetorical technique to appear interested in historical America when you aren't.
The main conclusion I would draw is that we have no obligation of "fairness or equality" towards every religion. Our system was built to accomodate certain kinds and those that aren't in direct conflict, it seems a pretty good compromise that's hard to work around.
Yes, the founding fathers had in mind a plurality of European religion, not every possible belief around the world from Africa to the Amazon. The idea you could create one government that could accommodate all those is the ridiculous contradiction. They would laugh at the suggestion there should be some equality of human sacrifice and communion.
The specific attribute mentioned is the pressure to continue to grow, instead of executing a simple mission. Wikipedia doesn't do that at all, and clearly feels pressure to grow power and expand into new domains.
It is a cartel in big cities through the government medallion system.
This feeling is also a good sign that you're now pursuing mastery. There is no content being produced for people like you. It's now up to you synthesize new stuff.
I'm not sure that's the case. It has an ever expanding budget and picks up new political causes often.
Different marketing appeals to different people.
I do think there is a lot of overlap with people promoting self driving predictions that haven't panned out.
What kind of citation would satisfy you? A survey of organizational structures and success rates? That doesn't sound conclusive.
That's true, but if you're looking that far back, multicore is new too
I agree with most of these points except blaming this on processes vs threads. The only difference is all memory being shared by default, vs explicitly deciding what memory to share. With all the emphasis on memory safety on HN you think this point would be appreciated.
It doesn't mean it's less biased. All of these styles are exploited as a form of rhetoric. Many people simply take information written in a textbook style as authoritative.
It's also funny to my how cynical the posts are in these forms. It's worse than 4chan. Do they follow them because they are fans or haters?
