Re:Schoolgirls who defied the Stasi on Saturday May 11, 2019 @03:37PM (#19887999)
The stasi exists now. When east Germany fell all citizens could walk into their equivalent of the pentagon and look up their file. They had files on almost everyone. This was 1989. Imagine what you could look up on yourself today if the governments fell.
How do you know the government does not already have the root cert anyway

A lot of devs likely using aws in this manner are also not likely using the web interface an instead operating from cli pipelines where it’s easy to miss
This is rather depressing and hopefully not true but likely is. Reminds me of the movie “Surrogates”

We know what echelon morphed into. Much of it was in the Snowden docs. If you are highly technical it’s not hard to imagine a few steps forward from what was in that release and realize just how massive the infrastructure and internet vacuum is.
Re:Two-thirds of all Android antivirus apps are frauds on Saturday March 16, 2019 @07:43PM (#19411157)
I have never owned an android phone and honestly did not know that there were antivirus apps for the phone. That makes me glad that I never owned one. Are viruses much of a concern for android phones?

Who pays the utility bills? Professor and administrative salaries? Is anyone allowed in just due to having a diploma? What keeps rampant cronyism and end of year cost splurges to keep high budget levels for the next year? Who sets the budget? How does enforcement work, government employees doing enforcing?

In short how do you pay for it given the already spiraling out of control costs of higher education?
