Re:Thelio Mira AI Linux Workstation: 192 GB GPU Memory on Friday September 11, 2026 @06:58AM (#49656305)
I've thought a little bit about this, really I suspect you'd actually want maybe 20 folks for about a 20k buy-in and a dedicated 8×B300. You could get some pretty sweet token/s. Probably a community/coop share structure. It'd be better than the GB300 which is fairly throughput optimized (not needed for 20ish folk)
> ask Claude about how to improve on how to ask Claude things

How do you evaluate this? Claude is horrible at performance analysis without data, does it have a feedback loop here that actually moves the needle.

Re:Changes to the Kubernetes Slack on Monday June 16, 2025 @08:07AM (#44288784)
It's a product I actively looked for before setting up Slack for my company.
You can go to a normal store and buy a device using fuchsia today, it's just not advertising that is the OS under the hood. That is why I do not think what you said is the same thing.
There are multiple devices that have shipped with Fuchsia on it in the home ecosystem over the last 5 years.

I don't necessarily think it's going to be a major success, but it's already been more successful than this implies.

(Bias, was on the Fuchsia team many moons ago)

Calling out tailscale here is odd considering it's peer-to-peer and encrypted.
Re:Google helped destroy adoption of RSS feeds (2023) on Sunday February 25, 2024 @08:51AM (#39500815)
Reader was killed in 2013, Chrome already had ~40% market share by then. It may have not been as dominant as it is now, but Chrome was already a major influence on the web user experience.
Re:Google helped destroy adoption of RSS feeds (2023) on Saturday February 24, 2024 @01:41PM (#39493993)
> Better UX would have helped adoption and would have led to Google keeping the RSS button

The most obvious people to have improved that UX is the browser... aka Google. The way that XML rendered was controlled by the browser. This all sounds like Google apologism.

Re:New York City population declined by 5.3% since 2020 on Tuesday December 19, 2023 @12:52PM (#38698922)
"just build more housing" is definitely viable here in NYC. NYC is not that dense in comparison to many other major metropolis in the world.
Re:Ask HN: Did you change career paths after 30? on Thursday October 19, 2023 @06:24PM (#37949616)
Being condescending is also a choice.

Nothing about the GP indicated victimhood, only striving for a better life with real challenges in front of them.

Re:Bugzilla Celebrates 25 Years with Special Announcements on Sunday August 27, 2023 @07:37AM (#37281625)
We live in different worlds.

The Jira I'm familiar with may be extremely powerful, but fast it certainly is not. I also rarely need that power which comes with non-trivial complexity.

Feral cats, as much as I love a house cat, can almost be thought of as an invasive species.

They absolutely decimate song birds populations.

Re:Jitsi Meet Flutter SDK on Monday August 14, 2023 @08:02AM (#37120055)
I don't think dart is a problem, but your timelines are very off.

Dart was a JavaScript alternative that was started back in 2011. It's evolved a lot since then but in no way was it created for Flutter.

(I worked physically adjacent to the Flutter team for a couple years)

Re:Cicada: Private on-chain voting using time-lock puzzles on Thursday July 06, 2023 @08:00AM (#36614505)
How much of that is because we have a bunch of forward secret e2e auditable ballot schemes already? (E.g. ThreeBallot)

We already know how to do this, it's policy that the hard part at this point from my understanding.

Re:Buck2 Unboxing on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @04:53PM (#36130619)
I've been exploring buck2 for work a lot recently. We're considering switching to either it or Bazel.

It'll be an incredibly risky decision to go with buck2 today, but it's so darn zippy in comparison to Bazel it's hard to not at least give it a real try.

My impression so far has been it's pretty robust in it's core, but anything that FB doesn't use is in a mediocre state. It's yet to be seen how willing they'll be to take PRs that are explicitly for community usage.

Sin or cosine was chosen explicitly because they are non-linear functions
Re:Unity builds lurked into the Firefox Build System on Saturday May 06, 2023 @11:19AM (#35842177)
This, is just deeply untrue. Do you really think everybody working on compilers and linkers are deeply ignorant? I can easily saturate my 64 GB RAM home setup during a compile.
Re:GitHub slashes engineering team in India on Tuesday March 28, 2023 @08:17AM (#35339605)
Everyone else here is not agreeing with you, but having just come back from our India office and dealing a little bit with compensation adjustment, I totally agree with you.

Our Indian teams are making really good money these days, and if we don't pay them as such they bounce to another company.

Re:What Is Anglish? on Tuesday February 28, 2023 @07:06AM (#34968390)
The fandom is an unmoderated site and does not reflect the general community. Racists have edit buttons too unfortunately. If you look at the edit history of the page it'll tell a story of far-right trolls attempting to rebrand it in recent years.

Re:What Is Anglish? on Monday February 27, 2023 @02:53PM (#34961046)
Before anyone gets too worried, the Anglish community in my (limited) experience has been incredibly anti-racism/Nazi/etc.

They are just a bunch of linguistics nerds who are having fun imagining what English would have been without a Norman invasion.

In the same spirit, I'd recommend checking out the Uncleftish Beholding. Although I think it predates the modern Anglish community, it's an attempt to describe Quantum Mechanics with Latin/French derived words.

https://www.ling.upenn.edu/~beatrice/110/docs/uncleftish_beh...

I have a passing familiarity with the webfiction "Beneath dragon eye moons", that this artwork was designed for. All of the things you are complaining about makes sense in the context of that writing.
Re:A software change allowed FTX to use client money on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @07:47AM (#33982750)
Of course sophisticated tradfi players are in crypto and have been for years making hand over fist in money.

Source: I work at a firm that does this.

Re:I/O is no longer the bottleneck on Saturday November 26, 2022 @09:06AM (#33752721)
Spinning disk are fine for some workloads. However, I've definitely seen teams engineering around slower spinning discs. NVMe isn't egregiously expensive, and if teams are needing to spend too much work and time thinking about disk speed it probably cheaper in the long run to switch.
Re:Poll: Would You Work for Elon? on Wednesday November 16, 2022 @01:14PM (#33627802)

That's exactly what is happening

Re:Poll: Would You Work for Elon? on Wednesday November 16, 2022 @09:55AM (#33624017)
Nobody is talking about his politics. They are talking about his management style.
A quick Google search reveals they had a nuclear reactor till 1992.

Re:Remote startups will win the war for top talent on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @12:05PM (#32566977)
I go out several times a week now and have a friend group outside of work too. That's a different experience than what the GP is talking about.

My friends don't share my work context, nor do I want to have them hear about it endlessly. Getting a drink with friendly coworkers is a good way to have a conversation with that shared context.

Re:Ask HN: What problem did Slack solve? on Saturday August 20, 2022 @03:27PM (#32534563)
Slack the messaging app was actually the pivot off of an unsuccessful MMORPG. They were writing it for their own internal use. Motivations were somewhat different than you are envisioning.
Re:Putting Tailscale on the Steam Deck on Wednesday August 17, 2022 @07:11AM (#32494681)
The first two points in that comparison are (now?) incorrect. Tailscale works natively with Ipv6.

Re:Tell HN: Unpaid home assignments are not ok on Friday August 12, 2022 @09:03AM (#32437924)
I don't think people are complaining about writing code, I think they are complaining about the time involved with take homes (just having done a couple I can empathize with) and whiteboard codings "high stress nature".

I've also had interviews which just talk about work I've done before. Most industries only need that, and I'm coming around to those being the more valuable questions.
