Nonsense
I think that effect still exists on small margin votes too. You know pretty much how it’s goona go down on every vote. 99-1 feels a little different to me. That no one else even wanted to claim that lane.
The “explosives” being Fourth of July fireworks.
Not clear how central the patriot act was to this operation, but it does pop up here.

Russ Feingold was the only Senator to vote against the Patriot act. I really do think about that a lot.

Are automakers really the best comparison here? Seems like inherently dangerous devices are sold, kill thousands, and there is little accountability.

Many of them are switchable color temperature. At least from what I’ve seen.
Re:You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @11:46AM (#49895348)
$25 a person just in pastries is pretty astounding. I think I could make it happen with the most expensive bakery (which is imo not the best in town but close to it) and eating little else. So hats off, that’s impressive. Hope they were enjoyed, great pastries are really a delight.

Split the difference and say “designed by evolution?” I think designed captures something important and doesn’t have to imply a non-materialist view.
Do you think Canada doesn’t have housing issues?

Doesn’t take a special dough to achieve that.
Re:Swiss parliament lifts ban on new nuclear power plants on Thursday June 18, 2026 @02:21PM (#48589375)
I mostly agree with your larger point, but the anti-nuclear movement predates the 70s by quite a bit.
There was a lot of arson at BLM protests, and plenty of people beaten in the street, some of whom were in no way asking for it. The majority of the violence probably was the cops though.
Re:Why isn't the U.S. better at soccer? on Monday June 08, 2026 @07:16AM (#48443894)
USAmericans casually play basketball still. Basically a few kids shooting hoops at every little court you pass, and lightly organized (just show up at a time) adult games are common too.
Interesting to make the connection to Sonny Boy. That’s one to think on.

No, it’s not. Please stop driving and leave it to the adults.

There were a couple of other LLM-isms that think mainly served to pad the length for no reason. I found the article interesting. Just not real concise.
Re:US launches new strikes on Iran on Thursday May 07, 2026 @07:03PM (#48056241)
I also believe some in the administration want chaos. But also consider that Iran is legitimately hard to negotiate with and the negotiators have no experience with highly technical negotiations around nuclear enrichment. Like, I don’t think Trump wants chaos, actually.
Re:The Classic American Diner on Friday April 24, 2026 @08:01PM (#47897283)
I’ve got a place by me that does 2 eggs, 2 pancakes (or French toast), 2 sausages and toast for $4 before 8 AM.

And I don’t go there. The spots that get twice (or more) as much for that meal really are quite a bit better. And their coffee is truly foul. Classic diner coffee is fine, but if I’ve had better coffee on an airplane I’m not prone to going back.

Re:The purist's guide to phở in Hanoi on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @07:13PM (#47856068)
I think that used to be true, but it has been overtaken by Houston. Either way, yes, good place to eat Vietnamese food.
Re:Notes from the SF Peptide Scene on Sunday April 19, 2026 @11:36AM (#47825088)
20% work in tech? I think that’s gone up quite a bit since I last spent a lot of time there in 2015. I would see these articles from time to time and think, people are getting the wrong idea if they haven’t been there, when I think of SF I think of middle aged Chinese people and alleycat bike races and music venues and book stores and drug dealing and gays, though tech bros are also present (and overlapping). But damn, 20%, that’s a lot bigger than finance bros, maybe tech really is ruining the city. Shoot.
Effects seen at .35g/kg and .2g/kg. Both pretty big doses. Which is not uncommon for creatine for a single day, but ongoing dose is typically lower.

I’ve taken creatine for exercise recovery and possible cognitive improvements when I was a vegetarian. Never perceived it to do anything.

Nah, I’m sure Elbridge Colby knew about this. His political views may be unpleasant (I mean, I think there is far worse in the Trump administration, but I’m not a supporter of any of them) but he’s definitely in the well read in history section of maga.

Aha, that’s why they do that.

When I’ve brought atypical stuff in to be repaired at one of those shops they have been absolutely willing to solder whatever, however they did have just one “soldering guy” for every shop in the metro area who only came as needed. So just keep that in mind if you’re in a hurry or want to talk an atypical task through with someone. Probably call ahead.
Well, in this case because drunks keep murdering people.
Re:Anthropic, Please Make a New Slack on Friday March 06, 2026 @04:42PM (#47281469)
That’s a funny analogy because some electric railway companies owned power generation. The one in my town also sold electricity to consumers for some time, though most of the history I can find online focuses on the rail aspect, which makes sense, as they started and ended in the rail business, but at some point in the 1890s to 1930s appended “and light” to their name.

Re:Two days of oatmeal reduce cholesterol level on Saturday January 31, 2026 @07:16AM (#46835959)
Not the poster, but I grew up eating oatmeal that you would slice. Toss a pot on the wood stove, done when you remembered to grab it. Milk and honey on soft slices of oatmeal. Honestly don’t eat oatmeal much today, but was confused the first time I had oatmeal away from him and it wasn’t at least like lumpy. I’m sure that pot had to be soaked for a half an hour every morning.
Yeah, I had great memories of secret of mana and SD3 (emulated in translation, I think that was Aeon Genesis?) and I replayed them with my partner in 2020. For a few hours. Honestly, kinda miserable.

Single player it was less fun than I remembered, multiplayer it was awful. SD3 is a beautiful game, and very overrated.

Re:Why the Pumpernickel Bagel Is Disappearing on Tuesday January 27, 2026 @03:27PM (#46786056)
Luckily still present where I buy my bagels. I’ve only done it a few times but I do remember than rye flour makes a somewhat more difficult dough to handle.
