problem is the dialogues sounded to me anyway like they were already written by an LLM

That's fine but technology doesn't exist in a vacuum, you can't talk about (for example) facial recognition technology without mentioning the social groups it affects the most or is used against. Same for plenty of others topics directly or indirectly related to hacking and computers.

If you look at the history of the CCC, they also don't see a line between technical freedom and social freedom, because you can't have a free internet in an unfree society.

The 'outside' topics you mention are often just the hackers' way of applying their methodology to the world beyond the screen. Society is a larger system with its own bugs and exploits that inevitably affect the computers you use and the code that run them, and hackers like to apply their methodology to analyze that to understand the consequences.

Moreover, if you actually want meritocracy, you have to address the social barriers that keep people out of the room, and you can't do that without addressing the outside world.

I'll never get people who say that there is too much politics at a god damn hacker conference like the CCC, considering The Chaos Computer Club was founded in 1981 specifically to be a political watchdog.

more so especially since the very act of "hacking" is a political statement because it involves redistributing power over information.

Code is law, remember?

That would be like complaining about "too much law" at a constitutional convention.

read up on the history of the CCC, it might blow your mind
Re:Fahrplan – 39C3 on Friday December 26, 2025 @07:15AM (#46391354)
that's because you have a very narrow definition of what political means

how do you know these people broke the law
Not open source, no thanks
Can you do the same but with bookmarks instead?
>There’s no reason to think that the intentions behind the bill are anything but noble.

Who are these ex-cops kidding?

In the case of the Shadow Brokers, it revealed that those supposed "NOBUS" were low level vulnerabilities that did not need a supercomputer to break.

privacy badger is redundant and unnecessary
This extension is asking for a lot of permissions it shouldn't ask for

If you want an alternative that only requests permissions for sites with paywalls, this one is better: https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clea...

Re:AI bots are now better than humans at decoding CAPTCHAs on Thursday August 17, 2023 @04:47PM (#37167827)
This is very dependent on the bot and what it's running on.
Re:Fresh evidence of ChatGPT’s political bias on Thursday August 17, 2023 @04:40PM (#37167703)
This is a study about political bias not conducted by social scientists or experts in political bias using Political Compass as method. It's underwhelming, as expected.

This clip was edited to stitch together different parts without context.

In the first part, he was discussing the impact of AI and technology on police control, and expressed “concern” regarding it.

On the second part, he was referring to his own phone being bugged.

Before sharing anything from wallstreetsilver again, make sure you aren't being played.

If the VPN is hosted in America or Europe it's without a doubt logging, otherwise they would not be able to operate legally. Full Spectrum Awareness logically means VPNs should be a prime targets for the surveillance state that we're in.
Re:Twitter now requires an account to view tweets on Friday June 30, 2023 @10:27PM (#36545740)
Tons of people I share news with don't have Twitter - now I just wont bother, and I'm assuming it's the same for many others who used Twitter as some sort of middle man for that.
The word lost its meaning a long time ago. Now it's used to define anything from someone sending death threats to state actors censoring dissent.
Re:NordVPN library and client code open-sourced on Tuesday March 14, 2023 @11:42AM (#35153330)
NordVPN do logs and you will get caught if you do crimes using their services. It happened before during the Dutch KPN blackmail case and it will happen again. Everyone at BalCCon was warned about this a few years ago.

Just create a mutlireddit of your subscriptions by going on https://old.reddit.com/subreddits/ and clicking 'multireddit of your subscriptions' on the right. Bookmark that link and voila, you have a backup of your subreddits for your new account.
Are there no viable alternatives more respectful of privacy than Google's recaptcha? Seems like an anti-user choice to me.

Re:Signal Introduces Story Time on Tuesday November 08, 2022 @01:04AM (#33516340)
F-Droid list them as having anti-features "the upstream source code is not entirely free" - how are we supposed to know if it does what it says it does if it's proprietary?
Re:Signal Introduces Stories on Tuesday November 08, 2022 @12:34AM (#33516197)
Other than the privacy features, that was my #1 selling point when trying to convince someone to install Signal - that you won't need two apps for your SMS since it will become your default app and the UI is better anyway.

Will be a lot harder to tell people to switch now.

> The new law allows police to act in cases which they deem to be "unjustifiably noisy protests that may have a significant impact on others" or seriously disrupt an organization's activities.

Doesn't take a political science degree to see what's wrong with this law. When cops get to decide what is a justifiably loud protest and what isn't you no longer have the right to protest. Protests are meant to disrupt, if you can't be loud about it then it no longer has its intended effect.

If only people could get the phone they pre-ordered. The /r/purism subreddit is so much filled with horror stories and dishonest marketing practices by the company that I decided against ordering one.
