I was gonna commend you for the perfect sarcasm of your comment, but your comment history suggests you actually mean it... if words have so little meaning to you that you can call China (and Venezuela) democracies, then I highly doubt we're talking about the same reality.

> Tough luck, buddy. Engineering is about precision, science, math

Which is why software development, even if the field has decided to grace itself with the title of "Engineering", just isn't that. Say what you will, Software development is NOT about science and math the same way that civil engineering is. Otherwise, we'd have loads more data handbooks and ISO norms that we have a legal requirement to fulfill.

States using courtrooms to punish people who have attempted a coup is hardly unethical, no?

I have to say, it is cute to read your faux outrage over this after Bolsonaro made sure the guy with the best chances to defeat him two elections back would be put into prison in a sham trial right before the election... not persecuting a figure as corrupt and power hungry as Bolsonaro would be 100% ethically wrong.

The internet is riddled with popups and attention grabbing dark patterns, but the only one that's a problem is the one that actually lets you opt out of being tracked to death?
As someone with both a usb-c and micro-usb phone, I can assure you that other connectors are not free of that problem. The micro-usb one definitely feels worse. Not sure about the old proprietary crap that used to be forced down our throats so we buy Apple AND Nokia chargers, and a new one for each model, too.
>Now it's too late to regulate a way out of this.

Technically untrue, monopoly busting is a kind of regulation. I wouldn't bet on it happening on any meaningful scale, given how strongly IT benefits from economies of scale, but we could be surprised.

That is only true if you agree with ad platforms that tracking ads are fundamentally required for businesses, which is trivially untrue for most enterprises. Forcing businesses to get off privacy violating tracking practices is good, and it's not the EU that's at fault for forcing companies to be open about ad networks' intransigence on that part.

And yet, ability to code — or actually ability to learn to think algorithmically — is elementary for IT positions, and on average an uncommon enough that it's very much worth it for companies to test for it. You're not trying to suggest just employing any competent middle manager or marketing person to code, after all.

"Build your own Redis with Rust/Fortran"

If the author actually can't understand the difference between C and C++, there's a pretty low chance of any good code being in the book. If they do, they should keep an eye on the editor next time they go into empty marketing mode for the title.
