News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

It violated the policy of "no criticism of Hacker News". :P
Re:Sexism on Tuesday April 17, 2012 @05:15PM (#3855024)
Yep, that's sexism in action, alright. He's exactly part of the problem, and the fact that he's resistant to changing it just shows how pervasive it is.
Architecture behind this is really, really good. Can't wait to get some time to start seriously testing it.
Re:Poll: What is Your Favorite Programming Language? on Friday March 23, 2012 @12:59PM (#3746060)
Where's Go? :)
Re:Have you ever uninstalled an app based on aesthetics? on Monday December 19, 2011 @01:47AM (#3368751)
Yes. Especially if you include platform faux-pas in "aesthetics". One of the worst offenders is when someone makes something "cross platform" while ignoring all the conventions of all platforms except their primary dev platform. Generally speaking, those lead to an immediate uninstall, since they're so awful to do anything with.
Re:Poll: Do you get spammed by tech recruiters? on Thursday December 01, 2011 @06:39PM (#3301965)
I've never met a recruiter who even understands what I do. They're universally terrible.
Access is well known as being the anti-database that no one should ever use, but people still think Publisher is still acceptable for producing documents for print. DIE PUBLISHER DIE.
Re:Poll: What database does your company use? on Wednesday June 22, 2011 @04:11PM (#2684988)
Percona builds of MySQL. They're awesome, and Percona support is much, much better than official MySQL support.
Re:Poll: Have you had a SSD fail? on Monday May 02, 2011 @12:21PM (#2506771)
I've got a relatively new Vertex 2 which is totally fine, but that's still well within the realm of normalcy. However, I've also got a first gen x25-m, and that is fairly old as far as SSDs go. That one also still works perfectly.
Re:Poll: What APIs do you consume most? on Sunday February 13, 2011 @02:58AM (#2212329)
OpenGL/CL.

Oh you meant /web/ APIs. As if Javascript is a language anyone really wants to program in. ;)

Re:Poll: Have you ever applied to work at Google? on Tuesday January 25, 2011 @04:43PM (#2141027)
Never applied because I didn't want to live in the US. I'm sure Google is very nice and all, but I like decent health care. ;)
We're using erlang + python pretty heavily, so I'll throw that in here, since erlang wasn't on the list.
