It's a violation of project rules to confirm bugs with AI?
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @04:01PM (#49703092)
That was almost 10 years ago. Seems like it was just yesterday.
Re:GPT-6 Astra on Thursday September 03, 2026 @07:04PM (#49558341)
The steam engine replaced a lot of jobs. Tractors replaced a lot of jobs. Calculators replaced a lot of jobs. Computer used to be a job description before it was a personal device. There will be new jobs.
What is complicated about organizing written notes?
What does burning man have to do with geothermal?
Well you can do whatever you want but those are hardly equivalent to destroying a camera.
I'm not sure that it's certainly unlawful to defend yourself against gang violence, but I'm not a Mexican lawyer. It's such an odd thing to say that people defending their homes are now a gang because they fight back against the cartel.
I'm mostly ignorant to anything regarding the safety of LLMs. What makes an open-weight LLM dangerous?
Re:The C ``Clockwise/Spiral Rule'' on Friday July 31, 2026 @02:08PM (#49126655)
Just for future reference, I believe the correct spelling is genius.
> developers who get mad that you don’t give away all of your hard work for free

> encourage and support open source software

These two statements are not about the same group of people. It's reasonably safe to assume all people that get mad about proprietary software support OSS, but not all supporters of OSS get mad when people sell their software.

Everything I do I license as public domain. I would also encourage OP to sell his software if he'd like to make money from it, albeit maybe some different software.

Re:DIY Home Solar System for under $5000 on Monday July 27, 2026 @12:08PM (#49071609)
It sounds reasonable to me. I priced out a DIY setup when I bought my house a few months ago, and I came up with ~$6000. I priced new panels and what I would consider more reliable batteries which accounts for the cost difference.
Webgpu is the worst of both worlds. Significantly more complicated than opengl yet not capable of many "essential" modern techniques like bindless resources.

If you must use a modern api to learn for whatever reason, go with vulkan and use dynamic rendering and buffer device addressing.

Having grown up in a town of about 5000 people and 3 bars, yes this is what people did for the most part. I'm sure it's different depending on where you're at. Sometimes a DD actually will drive everyone especially since most people are less than 10 minutes away.
Re:Microsoft Fire IdTech Team at Id Software on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @01:11PM (#48820667)
I didn't try that hard but I did not have much success. I spent some time trying to vibe code a forward clustered renderer in vulkan and I couldn't manage to get anything I was too happy with. Mostly just regurgitation of a few different tutorials. It's possible I'm just too dumb to use AI and it was also 18 months ago, so things have progressed on the LLM front.
Re:CarPlay Is Additive on Friday July 03, 2026 @02:11PM (#48778033)
The idea of paying a subscription to use my cars infotainment is insane, regardless of how much the manufacturer profits.
Re:India's surprise baby bust is a warning to the world on Friday June 05, 2026 @06:25PM (#48419132)
Why does it have to benefit them?
Re:C++: The Documentary on Friday June 05, 2026 @06:08PM (#48418992)
Well if c++ had the liberty of scrapping the language twice in the last 30 years I'm sure it would look better too.
Re:dotNET (OK, C#) gets union types on Saturday May 23, 2026 @10:50PM (#48253892)
What new ideas did Zig bring to memory management?

Second Sunday of May in the US
Re:Bun is being ported from Zig to Rust on Monday May 04, 2026 @09:42PM (#48017117)
I don't think Zig is different enough from rust or any other systems language for it to matter. If you can write rust you can write Zig.
Re:Sierra Raises $950M at $15B Valuation on Monday May 04, 2026 @07:38PM (#48016363)
I had to go to an xfinity store the other day, and seeing the things people come in for made me realize why AI is attractive to companies. The four or five people in front of me did not need a human in the loop for their issue. If these people could go to xfinity.com and ask some bot where they can find their bill, how much they owe, or if their internet is down, xfinity employees could focus on actually selling things. I imagine it's basically the same for every customer service.
Re:Framework Laptop 13 Pro on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @02:49PM (#47852822)
Isnt that the entire value proposition of the company?
Re:A Better Ludum Dare; Or, How to Ruin a Legacy on Thursday April 16, 2026 @12:31AM (#47788676)
It's a game jam. An event where a bunch people make a game over a couple of days based on a theme.
I bought this book when I was working on a toy language and I think I was too stupid to understand most of it. The first few chapters were great, but it quickly surpassed my capacity to understand. Seeing it mentioned makes me want to revisit.
I tried to one time, but I couldn't even figure it out so I gave up.
Re:I built a Cargo-like build tool for C/C++ on Monday April 13, 2026 @08:24PM (#47759705)
Well the post is about build tools, so I assumed we were talking about that.
That is crazy. Why would the next 5-10 years be so insane you'd be forced to survive in the wilderness?
All strategies get priced in eventually. This is basically the thesis of index funds. It's fine to make money in the interim, but that isn't everyone's goal.
Re:I built a Cargo-like build tool for C/C++ on Thursday April 09, 2026 @09:33PM (#47712501)
What part of the build process is different for C?
Why would anybody outside of tech care if the cost of AI goes up?
