Re:Resistance training load does not determine hypertrophy on Thursday January 01, 2026 @09:41AM (#46454489)
While technically true getting very close to failure is only useful if you don't need optimal results and lack the time to do more volume. The damage by going to failure will make high volumes maintained over time impossible.

Ideally you would leave 1-2 possible reps. I think it's important to train to failure to know your body and learn to gauge your reps to failure but other than that and very little time per week to train it's eventually counterproductive.

And if training with lower weights you tend to end very far from failure if just following a program without knowing what you are doing.

Battleeye games get flooded with cheaters no matter what. On most anti cheats is the same anyways. Just see tarkov for a battleeye game with rampant cheaters

How is it an adaptation? My understanding is that the internet era disrupts ADHD people the most.
By definition if you aim to get autonomous that means you aim for zero or at least a very low intervention per mile. Tesla boast about that but doesn't provide.
I agree with you on the "Your story doesn't prove armor saved you?"

But your second argument about him being to blame for the accident... Like sure, you can always be more safe, more alert. But eventually you are gonna make a mistake no matter how much you try not to. And even if you do everything perfectly any number of unexpected things could happen.

"You only got to fuck up once. Be a little slow, be a little late. Just once. And how you ain’t gonna never be slow, never be late? You can’t plan for no shit like this, man. It’s life."

Re:Samsung Removes Bootloader Unlocking with One UI 8 on Monday July 28, 2025 @01:39PM (#44713257)
I dont think you need to do the forum posts but you need to request unlocking every two days and pray it works. Supposedly at 00:00 chinese local time for any chances of getting permission. Took me several months of trying non continuously.

Forking a process is not free and starting one every hundred of a millisecond* seems very expensive. *I'm do not know which frequency it updates the data but it's usually 1 sec to 0.1 sec.
Re:Anticheat Update Tracking on Monday June 30, 2025 @08:12AM (#44422292)
Valve's approach was to avoid the cat and mouse game knowing it doesn't lead anywhere. You can always cheat using DMA or reading the monitor with another computer that simulates a hardware mouse to get aimbot abilities. They wanted a machine learning to detect, flag and ban suspicious behaviour. This didn't work out and I'm not sure they are still trying but there's a few conferences talking about it.
In Switzerland and probably most or all EU countries. For example, in Spain, the schools need a signed form allowing each student's picture to be published.

The issue of money gatekeeping legal rights is another issue entirely which should be addressed for everything, not just this specific problem. It's also, in my opinion, a lot more prevalent in the US than the rest of the first world countries.

And often it doesn't even work.
Re:The Unbearable Anger of Broken Audio on Friday June 27, 2025 @12:46AM (#44393771)
He explicitly states that examples are not the point of the post by I wonder the specifics of this interaction.

"Even the trigger for this post is an issue from an extremely belligerent user (who I do sympathise with), who was quickly supplanted by someone else who has been extremely courteous in the face of what is definitely a frustrating experience."

It's been a long time coming. I wonder if the overhead of user space interacting with the kernel api is gonna be noticeable.

>Another big area of Windows that uses kernel-level drivers is anti-cheating engines for games. Microsoft has been speaking with game developers about how to reduce the amount of kernel usage, but it’s a more complicated use case as cheaters often have to purposefully tamper with their machine to disable protections and get cheating engines running.

>“A lot of [game developers] would love to not have to maintain kernel stuff, and they are very interested in how they do that,” Weston says. “We’ve been talking about the requirements there, and I think we’ll have more to say on that in the near future.” Riot Games told me last year that it’s willing to follow potential Windows security changes and “recede from the kernel space.”

I hope it spreads to anti cheats as well.

Re:The first non-opoid painkiller on Thursday June 26, 2025 @10:31AM (#44387818)
My family usually had paracetamol so I went till my early 20s without getting anything for pain or colds as it didn't do anything to me and it felt pointless. I mostly get headaches so discovering Ibuprofen was a life changer. I got a toothache that ibuprofen did nothing against so I tried paracetamol again, still no effects.
To be you should compare the windows version on windows, no proton against the Linux version. DXVK, which proton uses, makes some games run better in windows than "native".
I don't follow everything but they give flak to AMD too, maybe in a different way.
Because they announced double the VRAM for the medium end card at around the same price. But there were complaints anyway.
You can feel less than 50-60 fps on a management game where you only interact with the UI and move the camera around, not game breaking but doesn't feel great. And I used to play far cry 3 and CSGO at ~25 fps, I'm used to lack of performance.
Re:A deep critique of AI 2027's bad timeline models on Tuesday June 24, 2025 @11:16AM (#44367160)
We are getting there already with computers. They have been doing some clever tricks lately to keep up but the reality is transistor size is not reducing at the rate it was before and it already shows (in CPU/GPU size for example)
Not everything has to be a business model
Re:Why SSL was renamed to TLS in late 90s (2014) on Monday June 16, 2025 @03:02PM (#44292430)
I agree with all except your example. TLS and SSL are about the same memorability wise, Twitter and X are not. If we were talking about a porn website it would be the inverse.
Big pharma was never the target of the war on drugs. Therapy using MDMA is proven to be effective for a lot of mental health issues, focusing on PTSD. Narcissism seems to stem from a different kind of trauma persistent through childhood which seems like a good fit for MDMA therapy. Emphasis on therapy, this is not like prescribing amphetamines for ADHD when you are expected to take them forever to treat symptoms which seems like you would be against. The point of this is to make therapy more effective not use the drug forever to treat the symptoms.

While not a narcissist, MDMA helped me with some things even if I used with other intentions in mind and it bringed some other stuff that I had to deal later with.

Just an anecdote that seems interesting. I knew a girl that every time she took MDMA in a party setting freaked out because she started to notice, the first time in months, all the selfish shit she had been doing till that point. And I mean stealing from her current boyfriend, lying to her parents so they gave her more money to buy things she didn't need (while being themselves pretty tight on money) and more.

She was diagnosed with really intense ADHD and CPTSD and I suspect she may have autistic traits and maybe narcissism as well, masked by all the other things, but I'm not a doctor.

The last paragraph heavily implies it
What's trump's social media?
So you want her to suffer? If so how much time should she suffer while trying to find a remedy to her illness, psychosomatic or not? 1 year? 5? 30 years of suffering every day?
Good for you, I, on the other side, like when people raise those concerns so I can check for myself if I need to change my views in any way
Re:My quest to make motorcycle riding that tad bit safer on Wednesday May 07, 2025 @12:24PM (#43917665)
lol what?
Good for you but most people that do just that rebound a few months/years later. Maybe you already had a good enough diet and reducing sizes did it for you but most people require a change in their diet for it to stick. Keeping yourself thin on a highly caloric fast food diet is always harder and if you are already obese you most likely have a problem with food too.
The discipline needed to resist hunger and the discipline needed to stick to a healthy and varied diet is wildly different. The second may require more thought and skill but a lot less willpower.
Re:What my stroke taught me (2017) on Thursday April 17, 2025 @09:56PM (#43724181)
That is not something you diagnose and I doubt it's very important at all, just a different way of thinking. Words are just a way to communicate ideas but having the complete context of your own mind you don't need them, you can just think of the ideas directly instead of translating to words.

I myself have an inner monologue like 80% of the time and the times that I don't thinking seems faster. The downside is being harder to translate into words if I need to explain the idea to others.

Re:What my stroke taught me (2017) on Thursday April 17, 2025 @09:46PM (#43724127)
She didn't only lose her inner voice but the capacity to communicate and understand language properly. She also lost a lot of other, harder to detect, stuff. She also writes that she was capable of complex thought, just in a different way. There are people naturally without an inner speech who can think just as well.

The Calm she speaks about is something else, it may be similar to animals or it may not but I doubt it was only caused by her loss of speech.
