Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:09PM (#50294265)
It's a prisoners dilemma. The total market share remains the same, but if only one grocery store was on DD they'd be at an advantage over those who don't
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:02PM (#50294190)
When shopping from kroger you can pay extra to get 2-3hr delivery from insta cart. If not your order gets routed through a more efficient planned route that hits multiple houses

Re:SS United States to be sunk as largest artificial reef on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @07:00PM (#50267090)
Incase anyone was unaware part of the consideration for where to sink it is access for divers -- the top will be around 55ft deep which will make it accessible for recreational divers

Why doesnt disney just play their own ads? I think its because most of the companies paying to advertise never recover their money, and their sales attribution is so bad they can't even tell they are wasting money.
Re:Claude Duet on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:49AM (#50196195)
I do this too and have a wrapper around tool calls which masks the password on tool call output, and unmasks on input. So the LLM just sees a temp credential
I've been having trouble exploiting it from first principles even in lab conditions.

Theres less efficiency here than would be thought. Building codes, technologies, materials, styles, needs etc vary a lot by location.
Re:What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @11:33PM (#49638074)
I believe most prepaid visa gift cards are being monetized in this way. https://www.walmartgift.com/AcctMgmt/Controls/WalMartGiftCar...

Ive heard of casinos trying to pay out winnings using some kind of prepaid card, where theyd also get info about how people spent their casino winnings. Lots of ways to leverage that data.

Re:Show HN: Copperhead – Hardware as Fast as Software on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @10:18AM (#49627043)
if I needed something on the board that was outside the component library of the assembly house, can I ship it to them? or have them arrange for it somehow? How constrained is the component library?

Re:IPFS Maintainers Winding Down on Monday August 24, 2026 @03:34PM (#49424787)
Has anyone looked at ar.io and have any opinions on it? They claim you are paying for 200 years upfront with a kind of endowment like setup.

The probes they're using are off the shelf probes used everywhere including on small animals, I don't see how you could compare that to a lithotripsy
Re:Making Claude a Chemist on Sunday June 14, 2026 @09:13AM (#48526903)
Hamilton Morris and his stuff on clandestine chemistry is super interesting in this domain. Sometimes the chemistry is straight forward but access to certain chemicals is hard, so the procedure must change based on what's available not necessarily what's ideal
I'd be really interested in seeing your numbers, I've thought about this.

Everyone involved benefits from Ticketmaster, and in exchange all Ticketmaster has to do is be the bad guy
Re:Spotify will start reserving concert tickets for fans on Thursday May 21, 2026 @03:31PM (#48227855)
The music industry works the way it does because a large amount of people involved are effectively working for free. Promoters, photographers, DJs, interns, writers, assistants, even some artists early on accept low or unpaid work because the industry offers networking, access, drugs, etc
Re:GitHub's Fake Star Economy on Monday April 20, 2026 @06:57AM (#47832576)
I've seen the same devs refuse to use a library because the last commit was 3 months ago, despite the library being extremely popular, battle tested, and existing for 10 years.
I'm currently paying $800ish a month for digital ocean servers that I know would fit on a single hetzner machine :/
I dont understand the additional complexity of mocking bash when they could just provide grep, ls, find, etc tools to the LLM
