Agreed. A date = two people spending some time getting to know each other to see if there is romantic (or sexual) compatibility. Don't need to read to far into it.

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't see how that's the employer's problem. This risk is ALWAYS there when taking on a new job. Fire fast doesn't really mean one week either, but it can be evident in the first 2-3 months if someone is a bad fit.

Hire fast / fire fast has worked for some relatively lean teams that I've been on, but I can see it being hard to implement at mid-size and bigger companies where there's all kinds of red tape.

Ah, yes I don't disagree. IMO, I don't think the use case for crypto is to replace fiat, but I can see how those that operate from that assumption/desire would experience friction.

I don't see how this relates to my comment above at all.

Correct, there is no point in holding crypto on an exchange. If you hold your own crypto, you don't have this problem.

IMO, I think the way he was publicly lambasted and fired was punishment enough. Not to mention that shortly after, people were calling for him to return to OpenSea, because they were struggling without him for a hot minute.
I agree what he did was stupid and wrong, but I think he's the wrong person for the DOJ to throw the book at. They are only targeting him, because this was low hanging fruit due to the public outcry around this incident.

Not really, they're making an example out of some guy that made an opportunistic bad decision, but meanwhile there are criminals defrauding people of a lot of money in the NFT space and are allowed to operate in the open.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. Also, cost of doing business goes up because and margins go down due to ransom payments that fall through the cracks, so according to the laws of capitalism -> ransom payments go up.
Re:The Bitcoin Investment Thesis Is Broken
on Tuesday May 24, 2022 @10:02AM (#31492235)
If crypto disappears today, ransoms will still be prevalent, but will be much higher as they will be more difficult to pay. It's not a new incentive at all, it just opened up the ease of payment.

In other words, "code is law" only if it complies within the existing framework of our laws. IMO, this still leaves a lot of room for creative applications of smart contracts.
Re:The math prodigy whose hack upended DeFi won’t return funds

"Code is law" is a dream that is not actualized. It's not actually law, it's just code. I'm pretty sure law enforcement will gladly prosecute for a lot of these "hacks".

Re:Keep the web free, say no to Web3 (2021)
on Monday May 23, 2022 @09:26AM (#31478727)
I see. I think it's possible. If there's a catastrophic event that nukes everything, it's certainly possible to restore from a prior state... or even multiple prior states. You would effectively get a fork or multiple forks and then the ones that folks decide to use en massed would become the dominant chain. It's happened already when there have been disagreements in how to scale protocols, or even in the case of a pseudo-catastrophic event like the DAO hack on ethereum.
Re:Keep the web free, say no to Web3 (2021)

I'm not learned enough to answer question 1... but I don't think the fiat system is fully resistant against catastrophic black swan events either.
As for question 2 - it depends on which blockchain and which use case. Blockchain does not need to replace Visa in it's entirety in order to add value.

That's so frustrating. I'm in NYC and had a crappy experience shopping for cars as the pandemic was taking off. The dealers seems dis-interested, but they would certainly sell a car for their asking price. I ultimately ended up going with a cheap old used car that I bought directly from the previous owner. If I get to a point where I want a new car, I think I'll just order it.
