It's probably the lawyers that have a say in this.

No, they don't. There's no voting system that allows everyone to be represented.

Re:Ask HN: A New Decade. Any Predictions? on Friday January 03, 2020 @08:00AM (#21945483)
What are you trying to say? That people that had "millions" went homeless? The stocks recovered in less than two years. If they didn't sell in panic they still had millions after a brief period.

Training for what or for who?
I'm sure that if normal people try to do this they will be charged with something generic as fraud.
This doesn't matter for 99% of the population.

In my European country precent has no power. Does in Europe as a whole?

People go on telling everybody about "legal" cracks because their lives are not affected.

If it meant hackers stole everything you own and worked for in your life so far you would think twice how legal this is.

It's just a project manager that's not worth half the salary.

Anyone that knows better: why is the share price for BA 2.75% up?

And as such they will not do it because people don't use such devices currently. It needs to be the other way around: have the devices, people start using them more and more, and only then come Google and Facebook to destroy the system with ads.

What's up with the influx of christmas domains here on HN?
Re:LogMeIn Acquired by Private Equity on Wednesday December 18, 2019 @12:43AM (#21822180)
Yeah, 900€ just for two years is nothing. And this is just for the IntelliJ IDEA, not the whole pack. The standalone Office suite is 650€ for life. Photoshop from Adobe is quite a lot cheaper (some variant goes for $120/yr).
How does one get to update a Google extension (internal tool) at 21 without any other oversight?
Re:LogMeIn Acquired by Private Equity on Tuesday December 17, 2019 @12:09PM (#21815690)
Take a look at the pricing for Jetbrains products. 500€ for the first year only. I'm sure it has some features above "vim with syntax highlighting" but I can't tell which one costs 500.
This linked page alone has 10 MB.

Not really. At the time I was toying with a headless server.

I have spent a month trying to understand various tools around qemu. Using virsh is easy. Using qemu directly is a nightmare.
Re:Retailers Don’t Like Paying the Fees for Apple Card on Tuesday December 10, 2019 @03:26PM (#21756481)
This feels like 100% against the free market spirit.
Re:Retailers Don’t Like Paying the Fees for Apple Card on Tuesday December 10, 2019 @03:25PM (#21756472)
What next? Tax more because your state is more expensive? These things are never simple to answer.
Re:Retailers Don’t Like Paying the Fees for Apple Card on Tuesday December 10, 2019 @02:00PM (#21755677)
If they really wanted they could ask what the payment method is and put the additional fees on the client's bill.
Re:Retailers Don’t Like Paying the Fees for Apple Card on Tuesday December 10, 2019 @01:33PM (#21755326)
Do the retailers actually pay the fees? I always assumed that this is pushed into the price to the consumer.
Reading many replies here I now understand why prices go from $2 to $200. The work often gets easier but the intermediaries increase.

Why did try to scale when you had no customers?
Re:Apple pulls all customer reviews from online Apple Store on Friday November 22, 2019 @01:07AM (#21603209)
On the other side, as an user, I install some apps on my phone and the ones with bad reviews really deserve it. Poor Android ports, crap interface that didn't improve in 5 years and so on.
Re:Apple pulls all customer reviews from online Apple Store on Friday November 22, 2019 @01:03AM (#21603197)
How would a large marketing budget solve the issue with the people that "live to give bad reviews"?

Try to read about the features inside their custom chips. Personally I am amazed.

> native MacOS spell check API

Which is great when it works. But Romanian (my language) is not supported by Apple (even tough they sell quite many things here).

In fact this is a good example of a dysfunctional company. Apple managed to translate to Romanian most of their help docs but they can't provide a basic spell checker.

Re:Facebook: We don’t need your consent on Wednesday November 20, 2019 @12:57PM (#21586431)
As an user I feel that GDPR changed nothing. Google, Facebook and whatever else tracks you to the bones did not change one bit (for me).

As a sys-admin, GDPR invented all sorts of jobs. Jobs well intended. But these jobs are filled by people that are neither lawyers nor IT people. Whenever I interact with them I feel like they just want to check some boxes that makes the org compliant and go home. They don't enforce or apply GDPR, they enforce those checkboxes.

* all of the above in my limited experience.

Re:How to run your own mail server (2017) on Tuesday November 19, 2019 @04:21PM (#21578448)
At my last place of work one could send as ceo@company. Still, they had crazy (proprietary) filtering. People make things better by accident, in the mean time they tick check boxes.
