>We don't do it for any other historical event. Why is that?

Sure we do, there are lots of things (usually genocides) that are considered crass or hateful to deny or downplay (let's be honest he was downplaying, he certainly wasn't suggesting the numbers were underestimated!)

I guess it comes down to this: If you're an already racist nut job and start questioning the holocaust, then I assume you're acting in bad faith and are racist. Anything else would be supremely naive, sorry, I don't have to be infinitely credulous.

Re:Scott Adams has passed away on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @02:01PM (#46605998)
>Everyone's views, evern yours, are abhorrent to at least some other person on the planet.

Yes and I accept that they won't respect me. I do not demand that they respect me, it's fine, of course they won't respect me if they find me abhorrent. I don't care.

>The grown up thing is to accept that and still be able to hold meaningful dialogue.

Not really, I don't debate every one and every topic. It's totally valid to just write people off as bastards based on their behaviour and move on with your life.

Re:Scott Adams has passed away on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @01:57PM (#46605914)
>You can still call it a person, if you like.

No thanks, because a person is not a group of ideas + a mind.

Re:Scott Adams has passed away on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @01:31PM (#46605489)
How is it grown up to not recoil from people holding abhorrent views? If you can't judge people for the things they say and do, then... what's left?
Re:Scott Adams has passed away on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @12:20PM (#46604187)
> they framed it in a way that made it seem like truth

"the best advice I would give to white people is to get the hell away from black people; just get the fuck away"

It is true that this is an evil and racist thing to say.

> when it's really just this person disagreed with Scott's political views

white supremacism isn't just a small policy difference.

If you hold hateful beliefs in which you believe certain people are inferior based on superficial traits like skin colour, why should you expect to be treated with respect? I disrespect such people because I don't respect them, I am if nothing else being sincere.

Re:Network of Scottish X accounts go dark amid Iran blackout on Tuesday January 13, 2026 @07:55AM (#46600336)
I’m certain that a key pillar of Russian propaganda in the USA is to repeat the horseshit that Europe is some degenerate shithole/caliphate arresting people left right and centre for tweeting. See also the US’s total obsession with London and its supposed “no go zone” for white people. The irony is that the US is far less white than Europe is, so they really cannot point fingers at us. It’s worked fantastically at separating the US from all of its allies. We saw that at the Munich security conference last year.
Re:Jerome Powell Responds on Monday January 12, 2026 @06:53AM (#46587197)
There was a real choice in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Trumps opponent was every single time very different to him.
The USA did literally the same thing just as recently. The USA is a colonial state founded by colonialist Europeans.
Sometimes extreme things happen. I mean this:

>In the end, the investigation will likely show that neither of the two extreme interpretations currently polarizing public opinion is correct.

is just a mad, mad take. It is literal prejudice, either way. Just an opinion based on basically nothing.

Re:ICE agent fatally shoots woman in Minneapolis on Friday January 09, 2026 @05:21AM (#46552216)
>As they say, those who make peaceful something impossible make violent something inevitable.

Well, it's certainly clear that Trump is a revolutionary force rather than a conservative one ;)

Even going the Trotskyist route of working to export revolution abroad!

Re:Minneapolis driver shot and killed by ICE on Thursday January 08, 2026 @01:45PM (#46544808)
If the shoe fits.
Re:ICE agent fatally shoots woman in Minneapolis on Thursday January 08, 2026 @01:34PM (#46544653)
Pretty pathetic then to justify the murder of a widowed mother of 3 just for turning down the wrong street. What was that thing that guy said about those willing to trade freedom for security will have none?

Modern day MAGA Americans are not worthy inheritors of the great nation their ancestors built. You've become OK with your own government murdering you, lol.

Re:Minneapolis driver shot and killed by ICE on Thursday January 08, 2026 @04:20AM (#46539000)
> Recently I think the democrats have descended into utter lunacy, but GOP candidates almost never get my vote

Lol. And there we have it :)

So easy to not be emotional when your enemies are the ones being killed I guess ;)

Re:Minneapolis driver shot and killed by ICE on Thursday January 08, 2026 @04:12AM (#46538966)
Doesn't look like that at all to me. He wasn't hit, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to stay standing whilst shooting her in the head multiple times. Shooting her in the head made no sense anyway because of course once you're dead you just accelerate more anyway. Nothing about what he did made any sense nor was appropriate. She was clearly just trying to escape.

> People demonize ICE

ya cos they murder people lol

Re:ICE agent fatally shoots woman in Minneapolis on Thursday January 08, 2026 @04:00AM (#46538892)
Why is fleeing a death sentence?

And since when did Americans become such boot lickers?

Re:Trump aide says no-one would fight US over Greenland on Wednesday January 07, 2026 @06:33AM (#46525187)
Indeed this concept of hemispheres to justify military action is total nonsense, the Prime Meridian could have been placed anywhere. Strictly speaking, the whole of Ireland may be invaded by the USA according to this "doctrine".
Re:The Post-American Internet on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @11:16AM (#46514264)
Why do you make such silly claims about imaginary pipelines? What purpose does it serve? There is one that goes to China, but it's been operating since 2019. Beyond that there are no pipelines being built, neither to China nor to India. One further pipeline to China is in discussion. And none will be built by 2027.

What point were you trying to make? You just assumed these work in progress pipelines were really nearly done already? Why didn't you do some research? Why assume they exist?

Re:The Post-American Internet on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @10:43AM (#46513715)
We ought to avoid repeating your mistakes, no? Maybe unlimited campaign donations and so on, all this wonderful "American free speech (money = speech)" is a fundamentally bad idea. Worked exceedingly well for ~225 years, now it has lead to the implosion of the empire by electing a sociopathic retard to the presidency. Yes to free speech, no to whatever fucked up shit the US, its billionaire "libertarians" and Christian nationalists are pushing for us to adopt here in Europe.

If the likes of JD Vance are pushing for us to adopt his idea of free speech, you can be sure it's a bad idea.

Re:The Post-American Internet on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @09:06AM (#46512383)
Those jobs are never coming back, meanwhile they're torching the entire world order that was built purely to your benefit, betraying all allies, embarking on imperialist adventures abroad and making huge amounts of money for themselves and their families in the process. Art of the Deal.
Re:The Post-American Internet on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @09:03AM (#46512356)
Americans repeating Kremlin talking points is just odd and sad. Russian energy in Europe is being phased out by 2027. Not only will it "ever happen", it's imminent.
Re:The Post-American Internet on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @08:26AM (#46511941)
Well, by 2027, the Russian gas imports will stop altogether.
Re:The Post-American Internet on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @08:14AM (#46511827)
It's not that controversial, every single country has limits on speech, including the US. So European countries control a little bit more than the US. So? The American model appears to have disastrous outcomes, judging by who has been elected there.

Americans supposedly being outraged at other free, democratic countries (often in reality both more free and democratic than the US) having different laws regarding speech is really just a smoke screen for what they really want: for their social media companies and billionaires to completely control our media, so that we end up just as fucked up and insane as they are. Why would we allow that? What do you expect?

Nothing off topic about it.
But that's a bad thing, special exemptions to tariffs based on patronage is good for Trump but terrible for the US. That's exactly one of the biggest reasons tariffs are so bad.
Replacing one colonial ruler with another colonial ruler, at best, whilst losing every single one of America's allies in the process. Truly the Art of the Deal.
Trump already has ruined America. I'm not sure Americans understand how alienating this stuff is. As a formerly very Atlanticist Brit who used to genuinely look up to America and thought we had so much to learn from it, this shit is completely insane. The Americans have gone insane.
what’s going on in New York is irrelevant. The trains in Germany are largely bad. Bad enough that I don’t use them unless I have to. Once they’re at that stage it doesn’t matter how much worse they get for me, I still won’t use them.
Re:Bari Weiss's Audience of One on Wednesday December 24, 2025 @06:36AM (#46374695)
If everything about it is normal then your comment has rather explained basically nothing. It's normal behaviour that Bari Weiss's abnormal, anti free speech behaviour and sucking up to Trump is being documented. Okay.
Re:Brown/MIT shooting suspect found dead, officials say on Saturday December 20, 2025 @05:14AM (#46334994)
It's very silly to say they "love" them. It's unlikely anyone is happy this happened. They are a news company, they report news, and people are interested most of all in bad things that have happened.
Hope doesn't come into it. It's just a fact. And if you accept it as a fact, then hoping they have a silly name for him isn't the same as hoping Trump's been good for China. Like I say, it's not a question, of course he has been.
