I hope no one has to work with you, you're insufferable.

Who pays, if everyone is it WEF funded? You will have one website were your opinion must align with WEF and you will be happy.

(just like Hacker News where the comments posted must align with dang's views, he's also known as "the algorithm").

Mark chooses interesting figures from the past and present and tells their story in an entertaining way.

> Your link is dangerous to our democracy.

Democracy relies on free speech, which you don't believe in. I'm well aware this point will be lost on you as you're too busy being hysterical.

Do you pity Fritzl? Where's your line...

Count Dankula has a good episode about that freak. In summary Crowley was, via inheritance, a very rich kid weirdo that rapidly progressed to being insane. He went up a hill or two.

Your comment is grey, I think that means you're guilty of wrongspeak. They simply can't just let a comment be a comment... they must suppress speech.

Feel free to point out where he didn't make two distinct statements.

Good to see we're on the same page.

> ...what does this have to do with foreign investment in local assets?

Perhaps you missed the rest of my comment.

Re:Canada bans most foreigners from buying homes on Monday January 02, 2023 @06:25PM (#34225184)
> One good rule of thumb is that whenever people are blaming foreigners for their problems, they're wrong.

The current trend is that people from nations that were colonisers are the cause of, and are responsible for, the woes of descendants of colonised peoples. It's good to see that you can see through the bullshit too.

There are only select groups that can invest in property, they must reach the baseline investment sum and ongoing payback before they can play the game. Having unchecked offshore ownership is massively damaging to the local people, it raises the bar all that much more. Offshore control of property can easily be weaponised, where it's not about investment but instead about legal denial of property to the locals.

NZ suffers from some of this.

Re:Why 536 was 'the worst year to be alive' (2018) on Sunday January 01, 2023 @08:59PM (#34213350)
They blamed cats, not knowing it was the fleas.

It wasn't until the 1800s that hand washing was tied to health (Semmelweis). The 1300s would have been a filthy, filthy existence it's not a great surprise the plague spread like wildfire (past its initial vector). Basic hygiene has helped humanity massively.

> Dying of respiratory or cardiac failure is horrifying enough

That is how you die, regardless of events it's ultimately brain death due to lack of oxygen to the brain - pray your heart stops one day (everything else is worse).

> Dying of respiratory or cardiac failure is horrifying enough

I know you were making a reference to c19. Yes, being kept in solitary confinement while you suffocate to death by order of the state would be a miserable way to go (tax extracted and left in an "exit room").

Here in NZ the state forced an elderly man to watch from the roadside as his wife was buried but politicians were allowed to go swimming during the same lock down... Disgusting.

I don't believe the latter half of that sentence but sure, I'll tone it down.

That one makes passwords vanish from ones memory quite effectively.

So many people are out of touch with reality, it really is bizarre. The left are comfortable* with full term abortion but angry that anyone that's not on the left should be allowed to participate in conversation.

Insane.

* so comfortable that university aged people are willing to be filmed voicing their support on the side of the street in an impromptu interview

Re:Ask HN: What's your proudest hack? on Friday December 16, 2022 @05:57PM (#34021765)
It's a strange thing, people like Shaun Webb that demonstrate high intelligence in a specialized field can simultaneously be mindless sheep and follow/advocate "the current thing"...
Re:Ask HN: What's your proudest hack? on Friday December 16, 2022 @05:47PM (#34021680)
Nah, pkg_add works differently at a fundamental level. Yes, OpenBSD improved pkg_add significantly.

Good for you.

The official updater for FreeBSD (freebsd-update) is inefficient, it does internal spaghetti which prevents it from doing the most logical thing FIRST : "check if upstream changed" (it checks after a bunch of other stuff but it's so intertwined that it's safer/easier to not fix freebsd-update)

I created a work around: if upstream changed then do stuff.

I scratched my own itch, it was kinda neat to effect a several hundred times speed increase on a certain condition (if no updates, tell me quick (freebsd-update cannot do this)).

https://github.com/tux2bsd/freebsd-update-probe

Oh, and I'm not a programmer.

On FreeBSD:

I don't use FreeBSD, but I'd recommend it to try out as a hobby OS. It has a few cool things: hard separation of OS vs external software, & /etc/rc.conf, & pkg.

They HATE me at the FreeBSD Forums - a horrendously in-group place, full of moderator groupies (bizarre).

Those forums actually do the FreeBSD project a disservice, embarrassingly hyper anti-linux (the 'tux' in my handle was enough for their initial hostility).

The project as a whole is coasting on ZFS success. That said, they were on the money with their early and committed adoption of ZFS.

You've chosen to miss the point, and you're also comparing sand to ice.

win98lite, was windows install modification for win98 to remove some stuff so you could play computer games more while you weren't defragging your hard drive.

Wakey wakey.

Re:Linux Desktop Environments System Usage on Monday December 12, 2022 @04:10AM (#33952560)
Probably less.
p.s. I use the term encrypted loosely, the mechanism could be as basic as a unique file name... whatever it is the association to the existing footage is lost.
A baddy gets the camera, holds the button for some time and that resets the camera (disassociates the camera from the base station). The recordings for that camera on the base station are now gone because they are encrypted and rely on the association the camera had.

Eufy refused to fix the problem. It was something that could have been fixed with a firmware update via its app.

It was a shame, the cameras were good but the product overall wasn't fit for purpose (due to their incompetence).

eufy/anker are fucking useless.

https://community.security.eufy.com/t/major-flaw-delete-home...

I spent ~1 month full-time savings on a camera kit, cameras + base station. I was to be able to return the product for a refund (NZ law), I luckily found that thread within 24 hours of buying that SHIT.

p.s. don't confuse an existing good NZ law with our current inept government (i.e. we have a female Trudeau)

I know, I forgot there's a time limit on editing comments.
Like I said leprechaun, taniwha, unicorn... all mythical entities - just like ghosts.

Isn't it funny how people can draw these various mythical creatures but only after another person has shown them how.

Exactly.

It is puzzling that those individuals feel the need to attempt to suppress what they elect not to agree with.

Re:Basics of Concrete Barriers on Tuesday November 22, 2022 @03:28AM (#33703398)
> make sure not to keep your steering wheel straight

remove the "not".

> (or at least: know why you are doing what you are doing)

Remove that too, it's unnecessary.

but hairofadog needs a reason to be hysterical.
Simply hunted to extinction. It's a shame history is being rewritten in front of our eyes.
Taniwha can be considereed ghosts, in that they are creatures from stories - a leprechaun could be considered a ghost for the same reason.
Re:Get me off Your Fucking Mailing List (2014) [pdf] on Monday November 14, 2022 @04:16AM (#33591745)
A website, can just be a URL of, well... nothing. As long a web server is sitting there logging the requests.

spammer.douch.nozzle/collect_request/JoeShmo_1x1-transparent-UUID_0se9a009fjwljwlfl2f.gif

but all the info the douch needs is in the "UUID", the rest is easily obfuscated.

If your email client renders renders images willy nilly, the image is enough to confirm a valid target (clicking "unsubscribe" isn't necessary to become victim but is a hard lock-in mechanism (A human is on the hook...)).

Re:Get me off Your Fucking Mailing List (2014) [pdf] on Monday November 14, 2022 @04:03AM (#33591685)
You must have had your email address on a website in plain text at some point.
