Re:I tried to move my notes out of Emacs. I failed. Again on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:18PM (#50001552)
It is 2026... You can't complain about other people's software anymore. Spend about 30 minutes vibe coding your perfect app and you'll never go back. I've basically done that, remade every utility on my phone, on my computer, hyper customized everything that bothered me about all those other software. All local and connected to my private server for sync and backup. And I barely know how to code... I even included in every one of my apps a button that sends me to a session in my custom made ai agent app to change/update/debug any complaints I have about my own apps, on the spot. "Hey codex, that button doesn't do exactly what I wanted quite as fast as I wanted please make it better and faster" wait 5 minutes - done. It's the future... Take advantage of it
Re:AI Safety Is Mostly a Sex Cult on Saturday September 19, 2026 @11:39AM (#49767448)
It sort of seems like the community is criticized for truly believing and living what they preach... They're the most sincere - if you thought the world was ending, you'd maybe do your best to stop it while enjoying the last bits left, while spending time with like-minded people. They're being criticized for not being hypocrites? I mean sure seems like there's lots of conflict of interest, but isn't there always? What humans have ever been objective in anything they do
Re:Claude is getting worse, according to Claude on Monday April 13, 2026 @08:15PM (#47759647)
This article is mostly clickbait. Even if there’s an uptick in complaints, that’s likely just a function of more people using Claude, Claude Code, and similar tools.

people have been saying “the model got worse” after almost every major update since early ChatGPT releases. Quality has always been somewhat variable and user dependent, so individual experiences can fluctuate. But it's undeniable that state-of-the-art models have consistently improved with each generation.

What’s really happening is that as models get more widely used, their weaknesses become more visible—and people tend to focus on those rather than the overall progress. and ok maybe they had some outages lately but that's not really news

To add on that - the human mind is a black box that we don't understand, we don't know what's going in internally, and most descriptions like the one here are arbitrary, made up, and don't reflect reality
Most people in the tech space talking about AI, not only misunderstand AI - but they usually have a far greater misconception of the human mind/brain.

The basic argument in the article above (and in most of this comment thread) is that LLMs could never reason because they can't do what humans are doing when we reason.

This whole thread is amusingly a rebuttal of itself. I would argue it's humans that can't reason, because of what we do when we "reason", the proof being this article which is a silly output of human reasoning. In other words, the above argument for why LLMs can't reason are so obviously fallacious in a multiple ways, the first of which is that human reasoning is a golden standard of reasoning, (and are a good example of how bad humans are at reasonin.

LLMs use naive statistical models to find the probability of a certain output, like "what's the most likely next word". Humans use equally rationally-irrelevant models that are something along the lines of "what's the most likely next word that would have the best internal/external consequence in terms of dopamine or more indirectly social standing, survival, etc."

We have very weak rational and logic circuits that arrive at wrong conclusions far more often than right conclusions, as long as it's beneficial to whatever goal our mind thinks is subconsciously helpful to survival. Often that is simple nonsense output that just sounds good to the listener (e.g. most human conversation)

Think how much nonsense you have seen output by the very "smartest" of humans. That is human reasoning. We are woefully ignorant of the actual mechanics of our own reasoning. The brain is a marvelous machine, but it's not what you think it is.
