Sad news :(
Re:Gurus of 90s Web Design: Zeldman, Siegel, Nielsen on Thursday May 29, 2025 @10:06AM (#44126279)
Zeldman was one of my heroes in the 00s. I would argue that the list could also include Eric Meyer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_A._Meyer).
Had they been more more optimistic they would have called it MIDAS.
Re:PhD Timeline on Monday April 28, 2025 @05:33AM (#43819314)
Honest.
That’s a very interesting thought. Presumably stuff like CRISPR will make our meat code open source and we’ll be able to deploy hot fixes ourselves.
Re:Age and cognitive skills: Use it or lose it on Thursday March 06, 2025 @08:17AM (#43279844)
I always assumed that it was something to do with people getting increasingly frustrated with the struggle of keeping up with stuff.
Re:I've Acquired a New Superpower on Friday January 10, 2025 @10:56AM (#42656749)
That's so cool, thanks for sharing this. I managed to do all of them, in the impossible one I identified correctly the area, but couldn't pinpoint the difference.
Re:Raspberry Pi 500 and Raspberry Pi Monitor on sale now on Monday December 09, 2024 @05:37AM (#42364832)
I should have waited to buy the 400 a few months ago.
I love it, I wonder if LLMs couldn't be used to generate some pictures.
This stuff will never not blow my mind.
I'd love to be able to make stuff like this, very cool!
Re:Apple Acquires Pixelmator on Friday November 01, 2024 @03:23PM (#42020587)
Excellent program, the only real competitor to Photoshop. I kinda liked that they were independent.
Re:Database "sharding" came from Ultima Online? on Monday August 26, 2024 @03:14AM (#41354733)
I played Renaissance and the following one on unofficial servers for about 6 years between 2003 and 2010. My offline and online friends would easily play 6-8 hours per day, and when we were offline we were talking about it. It was like a second life and an incredible escape, but looking back at it we were all addicted to it pretty badly. I get flashbacks and cravings to this day.
I wonder if this is why we generally experience making better decisions when we have habits that foster good quality sleep.

100%
It’s been taken down!

Same, what a cool piece of the Internet. I have nothing but love for it.
Re:Building SimCity: How to put the world in a machine on Sunday June 16, 2024 @03:03PM (#40699259)
Good luck with the baby and congrats for the book. <3
Re:Apple Intelligence for iPhone, iPad, and Mac on Tuesday June 11, 2024 @05:33AM (#40644244)
AI for short?
Re:UI elements with a hand-drawn, sketchy look on Saturday June 01, 2024 @05:53AM (#40544312)
I use Excalidraw for sketching with a similar outcome.
Re:ICQ will stop working from June 26 on Friday May 24, 2024 @04:09PM (#40470054)
Can any of you billionaires save this?
Re:ICQ will stop working from June 26 on Friday May 24, 2024 @02:50PM (#40469297)
I can still remember my ICQ number by heart, but have no access to it.
Re:Immersive Math on Saturday May 11, 2024 @04:32PM (#40330460)
I studied physics-based rendering from a book by one of the two authors (T. A-M), and it was written excellently. I'll have a look at this for sure, as I need a refresher every now and again.
Re:Deep Reinforcement Learning: Zero to Hero on Monday May 06, 2024 @02:57AM (#40271917)
Does it rely heavily on python, or could someone use a different language to go through the material?
Thanks for the recommendation. On a related note, I have enjoyed The Terror, inspired by the account of Sir Franklin’s lost expedition. Also the audiobook rendition is amazing.
Re:Adventures Making Vegemite on Sunday April 07, 2024 @01:10PM (#39962136)
Amazing! I love Vegemite ever since living in Australia. When we later moved to Vienna I bought some with me. My first born has never been anywhere near Australia but is addicted to butter and Vegemite on toast. We also use it to make vegan versions of Italian recipes requiring anchovies.
Re:Brain Waves Appear to Wash Out Waste During Sleep on Saturday March 16, 2024 @03:58AM (#39724101)
Same, but the way I read it is that now we know the “how”.
Props! Good luck with the app!
