Re:Offline-First with CouchDB and PouchDB in 2025 on Friday May 02, 2025 @04:17AM (#43867383)
I used PouchDB w/ CouchDB as the datastore for a digital wallet. Used to store ZKs for proof of age etc.

Worked a treat

Re:Ship / Show / Ask: A modern branching strategy on Monday September 13, 2021 @08:41AM (#28510738)
My take is I expect "reviews" of every code change. whereas an "ask" is more based in the context of what I am currently doing.

Crappy example:

1 - Adding a user to a group, I expect a review - did I get the name correct?

2 - Adding a group, I expect a review & an ask - does the group make sense for our context, and is it named correctly.

Re:Ship / Show / Ask: A modern branching strategy on Monday September 13, 2021 @08:35AM (#28510672)
Coming into a "enterprise" organisation this is a decent generalisation of the pains of opening a PR.

Any reccomendations of how to implement this? Tags would work but only if you understand the context of ship/show/ask.

100% opening a PR, regardless if its literally just merge this badboy ends up being a "show/ask" instead of a "ship" where i am currently working

Re:Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) v1.0 (W3C draft) on Tuesday June 22, 2021 @09:45PM (#27599808)
DIDs do not specify keys should be written to a public chain, another commented mentioned the VC spec.

Another thing to look at is the did:peer method, it allows you to have a direct connection with a party for secure communication. Either party could root their did against a public key (eg a public organisation) but that is not required.

Let me use the, 'What programming language should i start with?!' analogy :)

Just start reading the book (any discrete mathematics book!) :)

That doesn't really make any sense, Backblaze were not limiting you to a single thread - you were...

Re:Niki Lauda has died on Tuesday May 21, 2019 @06:12AM (#19968837)
You need to read the _whole_ comment.. dingaling said it was a technical failure and didn't even imply it was due to staff, just commenting on the general public's opinion at the time.

I know people don't read the article, but at least read the comment lol

how do you "look" for POC's?

it will be attacked within minutes, you should start a honeypot and see for yourselves

Re:Linux touchpad like a Macbook: goal worth pursuing? on Tuesday July 17, 2018 @04:02AM (#17548090)
yep, but i prefer the newer style keyboards. id also make it smaller, no palm rests - closer to a 60key keyboard size.
Re:Linux touchpad like a Macbook: goal worth pursuing? on Tuesday July 17, 2018 @03:35AM (#17547987)

Bravo, @steam_games!
I looked into rails in some detail about a year ago, and I think it's the only pretty good solution for this I've come across—but there's a steep up front cost in learning/setup etc. (or so it seems).
Re:John Carmack: My Steve Jobs Stories on Monday May 14, 2018 @06:36PM (#17070046)
success is irrelevant :P
I read "scared" as literally "a state of panic".

I'm not sure I agree the dependency on the toolchain & provider, I am always able to read what API does (vendor side) and how it has been implemented (tool side) and make a educated decision. Caveat, I do not use bleeding edge features of any cloud provider and unless engineering requires - I do not use PaaS features of cloud providers - which i find have roughest edges for infra-as-code.

Secondly I think that part of that issue is maybe that the wrong toolchain is being used. eg: Trying to use HCL (hashicorp configuration language - used in Terraform) as if its turning complete. (and i've seen this before)

I've not run into an issue where manual steps are required to cleanly deploy infrastructure which I can not automate away. I can agree on dependency chains, where you may need to run your infrastructure deployment in sequence so that eg your network is up, before you provision instances.

All this being said, I mirror my production environment in staging. So 99% issues are found there.

I think we are mostly on the same page, I just took "scared" more literally than you.

How does this compare to severspec https://serverspec.org and inspec https://www.inspec.io

Also i would hate to be on a team who is scared to change their code, be it infrastructure or application code!

If you are scared to change your infra code then you probably are not following true infrastructure as code practises.

https://direnv.net Would be my recommendation
Damn awesome. I didnt even know i needed this!
