Re:Ubuntu Snap update spoiled my World Cup Final on Sunday December 18, 2022 @05:23PM (#34044345)
My phone hasn't gotten update in over a year as Google dropped support for my old pixel. My 10 year old Linux desktop updated yesterday... Oh, and I didn't have to reboot my machine (live patching for the win). Android update is not "better" it is different with different goals.

Is this response generated by ChatGPT? Seriously, we are talking Linux here and this is a generic response that ignores audience.
And your work pays for a lot of that? Must be nice.

Thanks for reminder. I got a new phone and forgot to opt out of "study"
Re:$7M lost on Amazon inventory, then bankrupt on Saturday December 03, 2022 @12:36AM (#33840959)
Not at all. Just search "hard drive" first page has this product https://www.amazon.com/External-Hard-Drive-16TB-Portable/dp/... which is obviously fake. The reviews talk of a scarf.

Where can you buy a pi for $40?
Yep, just predictably has some deals. eBay can be a reasonable option too.
Buy 3x 16 or 18 TB external harddrives on black Friday and shuck them. It is still going to run you $400-$500. Can't do it cheaper as far as I know.
Re:Elon's first big move: pay to remain verified on Twitter on Sunday October 30, 2022 @07:39PM (#33400234)
And you should be able to filter to only accounts that are verified and pay $5/month. I think this is an issue with twitter and their product. "verification" is one possible solution. But, other product changes would probably work better. E.g., I rarely have such negative interactions on hacker news and they don't even require a CC or a phone.
Re:Elon's first big move: pay to remain verified on Twitter on Sunday October 30, 2022 @06:16PM (#33399453)
Most companies shouldn't need this information. I don't give my id to most businesses I visit in person. The ability for online services to "verify" me does not need to be easy and it doesn't need to be cheap otherwise it will just be abused.
Re:Intel Extension for TensorFlow Released on Friday October 28, 2022 @08:38PM (#33379749)
You won't for some time as ARC is only supported on Linux kernel 6+. And honestly, their hardware is pretty bad for ML given you can pick up a used 3090 for $600. I just don't think there will be an ML push for ARC with current gen.
Re:$100B later, autonomous vehicles are still a car-wreck on Saturday October 15, 2022 @10:19PM (#33220521)
Why not just invest in public transport instead? To date all cars with any self driving tech are expensive and only available to the wealthy.
