Gonna be real honest here. I live across classes and and observe quite a few
The entirety of the socialization decline I see is with the poor and middle class. The poor seem to have to work a ton more and struggle to make ends meet while still living in a highly individualistic world without the shared community of previous poorer cultures of the past.
And from my observations the middle class are amusing themselves to death while simply becoming sloths at home doing very little other than their children’s sports. No hosting, not social manners and little get together than gets in the way of television or video games.
The upper class and wealthy socialize a great deal. I mean a ton. Shared vacations, constant social occasions hosting fund raisers galas sports hobbies etc. practically non stop.
It was the 'extinction' of the victorian era's structure of society. Come on you can understand this.
I think we are entering a wierd era where a huge population (baby boomers) are returing with incredible passive wealth compared to any other working class era in history.
This is... a mass elite or more of one that may have ever existed before including the small merchant class of the late 1800s
World War I killed so many victorian elites off and destroyed their culture because it proved honor culture inferior to industrialized killing
I love comments like this... they say "well like just build amazon, easy as that"
The upper middle class were decidedly not elite at that time and very much "working class plus"
Those who automatically gain leverage of information network, rent seeking, and labor superiority are able to use immense leasure time to better process directional changes. This isnt' automatically true, many Victorian elites went bankrupt, but it is true for some.
What the protestant work ethic is either wrong or intentionally dishonest about, is hard work may inform you of the technicalities of labor, but it rarely gives you the time, enenrgy or education to understand its organizational effeciencies or opportunties.
This is incredibly timely as we have stories and visual evidence of our current oligarchs clearly high on drugs, drunk, or generally indifferent in a leaisure way to the serious science of running our society and business, yet seem to continually get the upper hand in doing it.
Ask yourself ... why?
I think it is you that is unfamiliar with computing.
Economically corner America and take it over using sheer control economy, intelligence and military technology.
If you doubt me they have openly stated this multiple times in their think tanks.
A better metaphor is quantum entanglement. Each company here is in a super position will AI be profitable or no and somewhere between existing and not existing. They each try to exist more and in order to do that their counter parties need to exist more than not. They will crystallize together into existence and make a profitable future or fail and shatter.
Oracle just made a step towards existing less, reverberating a negative wave through the entire system.
Your just saying it’s beating america at its own game and crying fowl.
I'm pretty sure computers have been solving math problems for a very very long time through various techniques.
AI feels like it’s happening to people where as the internet felt like people were making it happen.
This is a result of the technology being expensive and centralized vs cheap and decentralized. The marketing claiming it’s aggressive and takes from humans vs uplifting and enriching. And on and on
It makes it really clear what the right thing to do is, make the technology widely available, cheap and let humanity do its thing.
In the other hand why does anyone find it surprising at all that a computer solved a math problem.
This is a rubbish lossy statement. And reductionist to the point of nothing has meaning.
Did Anthropic put work in? Yes. Did they derive their value from
Humanity being open with knowledge then try to sell it back? Also yes.
Did they even steal the tech? Also yes.
“We’re both thieves, Steve. We both stole from xerox. You’re just mad I got there first.”
No. Not at all. Do you even comprehend the words you type? Or read?
I have a theory that the internet gave antisocial people an outsized voice they lacked before. Poorly socialized people before the internet had little forum to say anything where as now they can overwhelm any forum online while continuing their anti social mentality.
It’s like if you gave your grouchy shut in uncle a megaphone to scream at everyone from his veranda every day nonstop
All the research says you are wrong. Kids overbooking is likely leading to anxiety and needless competition and less free roam time or complex socialization. And this is the problem even more than social media.
I say this directly because you seem to have a weird anti socialization tone here that is common amount HN overall misanthropic tone
We are all living overly precious, fragile lives which rathole us into depression and mal-behavior.
Look up universe 25 and mouse utopia experiments. Exactly predicted this.
This is such a sad and pathetic interpretation. Please consider you might just be depressed or lazy person and reading this wrong.
We’re all tired of introverts claiming they get to do nothing in society because it’s so hard for them.
Honestly. Put up or shut up.
The burden is never on the person not making the claim. Come on man.
Don’t be a r**. The entire argument is built on this data from DOT. This is very well known.
You really. Really really. Need to research the temperance movement and the utter disaster that it was.
You’re regurgitation of propaganda here is so laughably missing the point.
Downvote me if you want but look it up. The temperance movement and prohibition that followed was run by wealthy women who filled their time judging the lower classes and factory owners who wanted to end labor union meetings and continue to underpay workers in horrid conditions while blaming alcohol as the problem.
Easily one of americas worst decisions and propaganda people like you still believe to this day.
No. As much as everyone wants to cheer on weed it’s long term biochemical and mental effects are very real.
Yes both NTSB, Society of pediatrics and DOT have published specifically here on how the FAAs math is total garbage.
You can depends on the cohorts sizes. Order of magnitude is probably large here tho.
I somehow doubt when correct in absolute numbers lap infants are saving any lives.
Run the model in AI on real cohorts and absolute numbers it’s a wash at best and an urban legend at worse. 5 lives saved over a decade. Toothpicks on a plane likely killed more people than that.
To be clear but the NTSB and the American society of pediatrics have both said the FAAs math here is totally bunk.
This is extremely dubious logic with very bad stats.
Vast majority of accidents happen on regular driven known routes not road trips.
I would expect far better from the FAA.
