I think they honestly believe that because they can't even fathom that anyone would legitimately have a different opinion on something than them. And if they do, they're literally Hitler anyway.
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:40PM (#50291920)
Who cares? It's a crappy model and not even truly open-weight. Mistral gets absolutely mogged by Deepseek and GLM. They have never been competitive and never will be. While China and US are competing for the olympic podium, Mistral is still in the kiddy pool.

At least the FLUX vision models from Europe are pretty good.

Community moderation at that scale just doesn't work, period. It always attracts the worst office chair nazis who enjoy lording their petty power over other users.
Re:Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:18AM (#50270943)
Performance depends so much on configuration parameters like KV cache that you have essentially no idea what you're getting unless you run and benchmark everything yourself, which I'm sure you do not do. If anything, hosters of open weight models are more likely to gimp it either due to incompetence or malice because they have no reputation to lose.
Re:DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017 on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:09PM (#50144960)
But does it still have the crazy hallucination problems that V4.1-flash has? I would guess so.
Re:DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017 on Sunday October 18, 2026 @03:49PM (#50144722)
China is only doing this openly because it benefits them to price dump the US.
Because there is a VERY clear causal relationship between population increase and increased competition for housing and jobs. You'd have to be blind and deaf not to see that.
20% of the whole population are immigrants. In the big cities, where problems are worst, it is far higher than that.
Immigration is one of the primary factors in the decrease of life quality in the UK. The only mistake here is that being angry with the immigrants isn't going to change immigration policy.
I think we are already at the point where code quality doesn't matter anymore because no human can keep up with the output. I don't like the code that these AI agents produce, but what do I care when I no longer have to read the code? As long as other AI agents can continue to understand it, it's good enough.
Re:So You Think You Could Be an Electrician? on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:54AM (#50058238)
You'd be surprised what people subject themselves to every day because they are scared of death.
Nobody would even know Andrew Tate if not for certain people summoning him everywhere like he's the devil.
You must be insane to think that investment is happening in Germany. We have negative real economic growth, by far the worst of all EU countries.

Your contractors made so much not because they are from Germany but because they were freelancers. And if they weren't, they probably had less take-home pay after taxes than your father had, despite the company paying 3 times as much. I'm an engineer with 10 years experience and I make 65k _before_ taxes. Barely over 3k net per month. Many others would be happy to even have a job in the current economic climate. And before you Americans come with "muh free health care": I wait 9 months for an appointment and paid almost 10k last year out of pocket for orthopedic work.

It's the same people grown up. Radical feminists have long infiltrated every major institution.

Lawyers lobbying to outlaw AI-generated legal documents?

Re:Does Georgism Work? Five Years Later on Sunday September 27, 2026 @03:42PM (#49870108)
No, the goal is to facilitate optimal use of land. The fact that parking lots are inefficient is a coincidence and you will likely find that your "community center" is equally useless. By "unbalancing" this and that and whatever you personally prefer for ideological reasons, you are undermining the whole system.
Re:Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop on Thursday September 24, 2026 @04:59AM (#49828050)
Well, Apple is doing it. The touchpad experience on macbooks is really on another level than all other laptops and one of the main reasons that's keeping me there.
Re:Xiaomi MiMo v2.6 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:48AM (#49798249)
All they have to do is keep being close behind OpenAI and Anthropic for half the price and the US economy will plummet into a deep recession when it becomes clear that there will never be a payoff for the enormous investments of the past years. If they can also achieve a breakthrough in robotics, then they are on track to become the most powerful country for the next 50 years.
Re:Durable execution without history replay on Sunday September 13, 2026 @07:22AM (#49682719)
Was this written by AI? I even read the "technical paper" and still don't understand what it's supposed to do. Nowhere does it explain how this "checkpointing" and "resuming a continuation" actually works in practice.
Re:True Rate of Unemployment on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @08:16AM (#49535133)
If you include all the stay-at-home wives that do nothing but watch TV all day, you reach those 30% easily. Add to that the college students who only work part time. If you also include pensioners, kids and disabled you find out that only around 15-30% of the population actually work and support everyone else. And again, of those that do work, a significant portion is bureaucrats that have to be paid from taxes of people with a productive job.
She wasn't "erased". "Popularizing" something just isn't particularly notable.
Re:Where Did All the Public Bathrooms Go? on Thursday August 27, 2026 @08:10AM (#49463459)
More likely it's someone from India (or much less likely China) refusing to use the facilities as intended.
Re:How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @06:59PM (#49457078)
> Why do you think organisations go to the trouble of sponsoring visas?

Because they don't have to pay the externalities.

> Blaming immigrants is lazy.

I am blaming the government and naive voters who let them take advantage of us. Every person pursues their own happiness. That's only natural.

Re:How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @05:53PM (#49456422)
Yes, I am pitting locals against immigrants and I am calling them a problem, which they are. Immigration is absolutely disastrous for the average citizen who has to compete for housing and jobs.

Economic growth is pointless if it's only achieved by population growth. It is the wealth per person that counts, which will surely decrease when you import millions of people with few employable skills and their non-working families.

Demography is only a problem because our social systems are completely unsustainable pyramid schemes reliant on endless population growth. Every day that you try to delay its inevitable collapse with immigration will only make the problem worse down the line.

No it isn't.
I know that it's hurting me. Hard to imagine that children are any less affected by it.
Re:How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @04:30AM (#49445670)
Customers already pay for the disposal. You could achieve the same thing by requiring sellers to list in checkout how much the disposal of their packaging will cost. That's a 10 minute change for Claude Code, but of course then it would not give more money and power to the useless bureaucrats.
Re:How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @07:57AM (#49432397)
Immigration is a separate problem.
Re:How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @04:45AM (#49430762)
More bureaucracy + more taxes + protection of status quo fits exactly into the EU's ideology. Amazon doesn't have to bribe anyone for that. The boot licking is so ingrained here that the lord doesn't even have to call. Europeans do it all on their own and they like it.
