The expansion of the sport pilot category should mean you can fly most trainer airplanes with just a driver license.
Re:We're Not Innovating, We're Just Forgetting Slower on Friday July 04, 2025 @12:41PM (#44465963)
You could replace the word "advanced" with "unsustainable" and the thought still holds.
You could apply the same logic to "Women in X" groups. It's not discrimination as much as it is support.
Re:GenAI Art Is the Least Imaginative Use of AI Imaginable on Friday January 31, 2025 @05:25PM (#42893021)
Would you consider the images you create to be art?

He commented elsewhere that he uses a Python library that wraps a private API
Right, the point is that complexity is unnecessary.
How did we ever survive without computerized vehicles?

Fun, no. Accurate, mostly.

It does have that: “report an issue.”
I personally miss the air cover working from the office provides for doing nothing. Way easier to seem productive just by existing.
After harvesting the ozone layer using airships that produce eardrum-splitting noise for decades, the aliens achieved a communication breakthrough and were finally able to communicate to the pesky humans: “Please stop attacking our airships. They are very convenient for us.”
Re:Sam Altman is still trying to return as OpenAI CEO on Monday November 20, 2023 @04:27PM (#38355075)
Does this whole thing remind anyone else of the tech community’s version of celebrity gossip?
Re:Spain lives in flats: why we have built our cities vertically on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @02:44PM (#38195872)
Grim from an economic perspective, perhaps. Meanwhile, the biggest thing you can do to impact climate change is have fewer children.
Sure, and now you’re inflicting the same problems on the local population who don’t have the option of geographic arbitrage.
Re:The beauty of finished software on Tuesday October 31, 2023 @10:50AM (#38085717)
Why’s that?
Sadly, if your relatives are anything like mine, they have probably already made the decision for you.
Seems like this would be quite useful for earthworks projects.

I think the jury is very much still out on that one. I just got on Facebook for the first time in almost 10 years, and the comments on 'suggested' content have made me seriously question whether society was ready for these technologies. The corrosive impact of the falsehoods that are being thrown around has only begun to take effect.

I hate this so much. My off grid cabin has the magical ability to get people to stop scrolling and hang out with each other.

Aces low?
Re:Live near your friends on Wednesday September 27, 2023 @01:09PM (#37677770)
Sigh.

I found my dream house: incredible view, 20 minutes to skiing (a lifelong passion), warm enough and with enough space to garden sustainably, quiet, close enough to the city, great price and interest rate.

Unfortunately nearly EVERYONE on the street is 20-30 years older than us, with very different lifestyles and interests. We’re “friendly” with them, but there’s no real community there. Housing costs have skyrocketed and inventory is nonexistent, so even the people who have expressed interest in moving closer are prevented from doing so.

Not really sure what to do. This is the only thing missing from the life we want.

Let me know if you're interested in brainstorming. I've got extensive dev experience across the stack and can slog my way through marketing/sales but it wears on me quickly and I'm not great at it. I've got some time off coming up and will be looking to pick up a side project or two.

Even better would be selling it to someone who wants it.

Sounds like you need a business partner. Me too.
Re:Toyota Unveils Breakthrough in Teaching Robots New Behaviors on Wednesday September 20, 2023 @04:10PM (#37589464)
To be a bit flippant, the last thing our species needs is amplification- we are plenty loud, thanks.
Of all the shows to be persuaded to watch..
Isn’t the parent comment saying the opposite of this? That despite rating most men as ugly, it didn’t affect their messaging behavior nearly as much?

By this metric, they could vastly improve system quality by reducing log verbosity.
