I'm very surprised there is no monk order focusing on technology and programming, in a similar vein to how these guys do a lot of building. There is no reason that Catholic church shouldn't have its own holy Linux distro, social media site, streaming site, etc...
Well thats caused by obesity , lack of exercise, bad diet. You can also take pills to fix it.
Re:Crypto in 2026: Oh, This Is the Bad Place on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @10:39AM (#48645713)
Ethereum based research projects are addressing this. There is a currently active and usable project called Railgun which allows for hidden balances and transactions. Aztec network is launching soon which is a fully private L2 chain. It has taken a really long time but it seems the next few years will bring real privacy.
Re:Node-Red 5 Released on Monday June 15, 2026 @09:01PM (#48549242)
I like node and have used it previously with home.assistant. However I pulled back from using it as hA's own automations got better. Node's big weakness is a lack of visibility into what happened. There is no easy debugging flow to see what happened or how, whereas ha shows you everything. The friction of poor debugging makes ha system superior even if it is a little "weaker" .
There are many countries in the EU that get many more funds per person than Poland and have much worse outcomes.

Some moron always show up with the "but it was all the EU subsidies" talking point, which is quite frankly part of racist tropes of eastern Europeans being dumb and worse than westerners. Could you imagine them accomplishing anything on their own? That's ridiculous. It's us, the western saviors, who did this with our penny subsidies!

I like kde connect, but find it randomly breaks every month or so and for the life of me cannot figure out why. A week or so later it starts working again.

Oh my. EV war is over I suppose.

Its been interesting how much of a nothingburger fednow ended up being.

Lack of adoption probably because it seems to function just as a faster ACH, without any of the UX improvements systems like Pix, UPI, blik, etc have...

Because Obama rewrote the Healthcare laws to prioritize insurance companies above all else.

Their stocks have been doing great!

Scams are allowed but if you want to raise money for a new real company the stock markets are just not an option due to costly regulations.

What are we doing here now.

Its also slow and laggy compared to office products somehow. Has that classic open source jank.

H1B has surely nothing to do with this.
Re:Elon Musk-Led Group Makes $97.4B Bid for Control of OpenAI on Monday February 10, 2025 @05:01PM (#43005817)
I typically like Elon about 70% of the time, but I need to agree here. I don't quite understand how he suddenly got so much influence.
Re:Aluminum Batteries Outlive Lithium-Ion with a Pinch of Salt on Thursday February 06, 2025 @03:02PM (#42965953)
1% per day which is the number I found doesn't seem terrible for solar type systems.
Re:I2P Anonymous Network on Monday November 11, 2024 @09:26PM (#42112259)
Its because I2P torrents are horrendously slow, like 10kbps.
Re:Rewrite it in Rails on Monday November 04, 2024 @04:07PM (#42045983)
Django honesty feels pretty outdated and behind these days.

The webdev race has sort of left python behind.

The ADL is a joke of an organization. Professional bullies.
Yeah incredible. EVs are a bit questionable at the moment but I have no doubt that in 5 years they will just be straight up better than gas cars in every way.

Concerning part is that China has a massive lead in this industry, and the lone American company that can compete is being targeted by the petty regime we have in power.

Nope social security money is not invested, it's just put into general revenue and spent.
Re:Why Discover is no American Express on Wednesday July 24, 2024 @05:05PM (#41062101)
I find the mental overhead of tracking categories to be extremely irritating and I have just stopped using the discover card.
Fun fact the US government subsidises mail spam. It's called media mail and for some inexplicable reason is 10x cheaper than normal mail.
Re:FICO and the Credit Bureau Cartel on Wednesday June 26, 2024 @07:17AM (#40798680)
Well the problem is that anti-"discrimination" laws will kill that startup if that "well defined subset of consumers" doesn't have enough black people.

Same reason IQ tests are banned and credit scores are only allowed to consider like 7 factors.

I had the opposite experience actually. Windows didn't include network drivers for my custom PC mobo+chipset, while linux had them included. Actually had to download the windows drivers on linux then boot into windows and install them...

Raiffeisen is european for credit union.
I switched to pdfgear as an alternative to acrobat/dc for all my pdf needs. Free and better than acrobat.
Or you know do what lots of places already do and charge hotels/rentals a nightly fee for each tourist.
Classic case of overregulation killing things. Stock markets were originally invented to fund very risky new ventures in the Netherlands. Now you need to spend millions on lawyers and various forms before being allowed to list, after which the regulatory nonsense only spirals upwards to more and more.

There is no reason that random mom and pop shops shouldnt be able to list their sandwitch shop and raise 50k to remodel. Will there be tons of scams and nonsense? Yes. Dont invest in tiny companies with no track record then, easy solution. Will productive stuff also happen? Also yes. People can already waste their money gambling/smoking/lotteries/drugs/stock options/supid luxury goods - all of which have a guaranteed chance of working out poorly for society, but this is apparently ok and we instead need to protect people from the stock market.

I find it utterly astounding that the catholic church hadn't made its own dating app,Facebook clone, Netflix, etc...

Such an ovbious need being unfulfilled.

Just buy a toyota hybrid and have 0 worries to 200k miles then.
