These "features" clearly spell out the author's priorities:
- free software
- multiple languages and keyboard layouts
- interpreted language for lessons
There is no mention of teaching methods, kid-friendliness, or any other feature that one would use to compare against Mavis Beacon.
If you click your guy, he becomes a ghost and can phase through objects.
Not to mention the complete lack of Sandboxing and Mandatory Code Signing?
On second thought, I can't find any other sources on this story. If VUPEN can keep it quiet then it's not as much of a problem.
Wow! If VUPEN's "product" has been leaked, then it's not worth as much to their clients. I wonder if they'll disclose the whole lot and go looking for more 0day?
I would have done much better if I could type 1a2a3a to send groups of marines. :)
It doesn't even check for underflow!
The Android Native Development Kit allows you to write normal C code and compile it for ARM devices.
My priorities must be backwards. I'm almost as appalled that the app comes with an "Energy" meter that is fueled by 99-cent in-app purchases.
It's a proper use of "intellectual property", but they're not talking about movies and books.
I would be interested to see if this works at all here in Baltimore.
I wondered who the man with the clipboard was, micro-managing every step of the process.
I was surprised to learn that Facebook has a "3 trusted friends" method for recovering your account without the original email or security question response.
EDIT: tried to find a better source for that, came up with https://www.facebook.com/notes/facebook-security/national-cy...
Looks like the feature is still being rolled out, and the attacker doesn't get to choose which friends he trusts.
I never realized that files uploaded to Virustotal are shared with the AV vendors, but that makes a good deal of sense.
Oh good, it's back! Thanks.
Has it fallen down already? The rest of codeschool.com works but I get an "Application Error" when I go to Try Ruby.
The technology looks interesting, but it looks like Amazon gets to track all web surfing that you do on the Kindle Fire?
Since "Google" has become its own verb, it makes sense that few people link to google.com with the word "Search".
I think "soft skill" just refers to people skills, as opposed to computer skills.
What if I'm being carjacked and my car won't let me get away?
If it's anything like the first Galaxy S, they'll have to come up with 4 different variants for the US carriers. That's got to create some extra development time.
I beg to differ, here's the best quote:

The BGA part in question lay right on the flexure line and had mechanical stress transmitted directly to its balls -- leading to premature failure.

Okay, I guess that makes me a little immature.
My wardrobe consists mostly of geeky T-shirts, from cons or the Internet. I hate shopping in malls. I'll be thrilled if this service works as advertised!
For $10,000 a day, you could hire them to work with you.
I can't overstate how useful Cscope is for large C projects. With a couple keystrokes, you can do searches like:
- Where is this symbol defined?
- Where is this function called?
- Where is this variable referenced? Assigned?
It's the one plugin I use all day, every day.
slashdot.org gives you fortune output in an "X-Fry" header, much like the site itself.
EDIT: on second look, they're Futurama quotes. That explains why "X-Fry" changed to "X-Bender" when I went back!
For comedy value, there should be a follow-up article involving the "Casual Encounters" section of Craigslist.
2600 magazine recently had an article about a Bayesian filter for getting the spam out of the "w4m" section. A human could weed out rejections, spambots, and prostitutes, putting the rest into a sortable spreadsheet.
