Re:Apple Mobile Processors Are Now Made in America. By TSMC on Tuesday September 17, 2024 @10:32PM (#41575140)
I wonder how bad the yields are and how long it'll take to get them up to being commercially viable.
Re:Apple Mobile Processors Are Now Made in America. By TSMC on Tuesday September 17, 2024 @10:31PM (#41575136)
Have you even met Americans? We're terrible at this kind of thing.
Re:Eazel, ex-Apple led Linux startup on Tuesday August 27, 2024 @12:18PM (#41369211)
I moved across the world (from Perth, WA) to work on open source software with some of my heroes (Bud Tribble, Andy Hertzfeld, Susan Kare) at Eazel. It was only a short time run, but I'm still in the Bay Area, still friends with many of the people I met there.

And I still use the software that I worked on at Eazel most days, which I can't say for anything I worked on since then.

How is this not called "Byron"?
Re:Flightradar24's new GPS jamming map on Wednesday March 20, 2024 @02:26PM (#39770266)
I thought it might have been Square Kilometer Array interference but that's to the north of those spots.

Re:OpenAI announces leadership transition on Friday November 17, 2023 @03:57PM (#38310192)
Maybe the board members are worried about going to jail for running a 501(c)3 that's behaving like a for profit company?
Re:I Accidentally a Scheme on Tuesday November 14, 2023 @09:49PM (#38272742)
I think Eich intentionallyed a scheme.
Re:Auto Xylophone with Homemade Solenoids on Saturday October 07, 2023 @01:35PM (#37803719)
This is something I've dreamed about doing in one form or another since I was a teenager almost 30 years ago.

But the best thing about this story is the video "Without the Xylophone" - a terrifying robotic bed of nails.

Re:0-days exploited by commercial surveillance vendor in Egypt on Friday September 22, 2023 @05:40PM (#37618160)
These exploits are weapons. Look at what governments pay for weapons. That's hard to compete with.
We were just talking about Kurt Cobain's death from suicide with my daughter with CF. We'll take the meds thanks.
There's a theory that having a single CF mutation can help combat the effects of cholera.
Not having to deal with insurance & copay shenanigans for my daughter's CF meds is one of the things that keeps me at the large tech company I work at...
No.
My 8yr old daughter has been on Kalydeco (one of the active compounds in Trikafta) since it was approved and it means she'll live a fairly similar life to her twin sister, health wise. We only have to do airway clearance treatment when she's sick. It's crazy for me to think what a different life shed have had even being born a decade before.
Re:Found in a Library Book on Saturday September 02, 2023 @07:48PM (#37366457)
Hey that's my wife's project.
Standard PC executables end in .com, so we should probably get rid of that one too.

Maybe Poland should change its name so Perl programmers don't get confused.

Re:Ugly Gerry – Gerrymandering font on Wednesday January 25, 2023 @11:03PM (#34527545)
Who decided to call it Ugly Gerry and not Sans Democracy?
Re:Sickcodes/Docker-OS X: Run macOS VM in a Docker on Friday January 13, 2023 @06:56PM (#34375583)
This should be called "Docker for Mac".
Re:Ohio vandals release 10k carnivorous mink into the wild on Friday November 18, 2022 @09:27AM (#33655167)
Mink can carry SARS CoV2 making them a great wild reservoir for mutation.
The situation is similar trying to visit the US from most places. If your passport isn't from Western Europe, US, Canada, Australia, NZ there's quite a visa process. Citizens of 5 southern & eastern EU countries don't qualify for the US visa waver.
Re:Source Code for SunOS 4.1.3 on Saturday October 29, 2022 @12:54AM (#33381099)

Re:Muon: GPU Based Electron on a Diet on Sunday October 02, 2022 @11:07PM (#33063073)
If Ultralight is based on WebKit (the site says "Based on WebKit") how is it not LGPL? Isn't this basic software licensing?
Re:My business card runs Linux on Tuesday July 12, 2022 @10:57PM (#32078560)
It's a pity they never ported VMS to it...

Getting LLVM to SEGV is depressingly easy.
Re:Spotify and Google Announce User Choice Billing on Wednesday March 23, 2022 @09:47PM (#30785638)
The contracts that the record labels offer to streaming platforms are (or were a decade ago when I was in the business) set up to strictly control the prices seen by end users but I'm sure their lawyers believe they can do this without running afoul of competition laws. Even if the effect is price fixing...
I think it's great that users have a choice of mobile platforms. Many people would rather not have any adult content on their phones and they choose iOS. Who are we to force it upon them? If they wanted a an uncensored experience they would have bought a different phone.
Re:Password Managers on Saturday June 05, 2021 @07:05PM (#27409156)
If you install chrome on iOS you can use it as a password manager while you're using other apps, including Safari.
Re:An Unbelievable Demo on Friday June 04, 2021 @01:29AM (#27390892)
I worked at a company that was interfacing with the AOL Instant Messenger network in the early 2000s. Finally the business people got a deal and AOL made us sign NDAs to get access to the official API docs. We were excited because we were using the docs that one of the open source clients had produced from their reverse engineering efforts.

AOL's docs were the same ones from the open source project, with the GPL message intact.
