His name was Aaron Swartz.
Re:Rivian allows you to disable all internet connectivity on Thursday April 30, 2026 @08:06PM (#47969926)
Because Rivian doesn't have a mode for _just_ lane-keeping. There's Adaptive Cruise Control (which maintains speed) and there's Highway Assist (which maintains speed and position in the lane). Highway Assist only works on certain mapped highways.

Why is it laughable? I'm not following your argument.

Looking at the city limits, I don't understand why East Palo Alto isn't called North Palo Alto instead.
Re:New colors without shooting lasers into your eyes on Sunday July 20, 2025 @06:35PM (#44630009)
I have red-green weakness but only saw a lighter green around the circle as it became smaller.

Mine's listening for proe-ject instead of prah-ject.
Re:Why the $25,000 car is going extinct on Sunday June 29, 2025 @11:11PM (#44418925)
I'd never seen the word "subvention" before. Today I learned it's another way to say "subsidy".
Re:Full power outage in Spain and Portugal on Tuesday April 29, 2025 @12:25AM (#43828677)
I've been signing "CHECK ID :)" for several years now and it's only a few times a year that someone notices.
Re:Liero – Sling'n'shoot Worms Game on Friday December 29, 2023 @03:20AM (#38802768)
Wait a minute, that sounds like an old friend of mine. Were his initials ŠP?
Not everyone can vote or is registered to vote.

I would half expect them to sue the computers for obstruction of justice... and then just keep them.
Re:Ask HN: Why are ringtones not interesting anymore? on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @12:45AM (#33431529)
At least for me, most incoming calls are spam. If it's important, I will either anticipate it or the caller will leave a voicemail. In the past several months, I think I've received one unanticipated call from a friend.
Re:Ask HN: Why are ringtones not interesting anymore? on Tuesday November 01, 2022 @05:58PM (#33428163)
Early thirties here: my friends and I do not call people except for older relatives on occasion. We've kept our phones on vibrate for a decade and a half now.

We do, however, know our own phone numbers, and asking a cute stranger or a new friend for their number is still a thing.

Re:Can the American mall survive? on Monday September 12, 2022 @01:39PM (#32813903)
and then there's the World Trade Center
And each department (and sometimes class or professor) has their own policy about whether they ever grant an A+.
How odd. West Wash Park and Boulder got some sleet as well as actual snowflakes, but nothing stuck around at all.
That happened this year... but only up in the mountains.

Can you back up your claim?

I haven't found exact data for the contribution of ICE vehicles to PM 2.5 levels in Denver, but I've found some evidence of ozone [0] and carbon dioxide [1] contributions in Denver being around 30%, as well as contribution to PM 2.5 in "developed countries" being 25–30% [2].

Later edit: this EPA paper from 25 years ago [3] says "Vehicle exhaust was the largest PM 2.5 carbon contributor, constituting ~85% of PM 2.5 carbon at sites in the Denver metropolitan area".

Civ III was released in 2001, but I feel the same way.
Re:Most and Least Affordable Places to Buy a Home on Saturday May 15, 2021 @11:47AM (#27166252)
The thing is... it has chosen not to for the longest time. I don't expect the height restrictions or Open Space to go away any time soon.
Can you elaborate a bit? I am quite familiar with the various iPods but quite unfamiliar with cars.
Re:Car Connectivity Consortium on Wednesday April 21, 2021 @03:42AM (#26886504)
I would love to drive a dumb car that doesn't pollute the air. Alas.
I agree, but I'd like to point out the US exit tax, which does exactly that.

Re:Bumble S-1 on Friday January 15, 2021 @02:57PM (#25795513)
I think it's highly dependent on where you are.

This is my experience of the three...

Hinge: I talk to people, and sometimes that leads to a date

Tinder: I talk to people, but no dates happen

Bumble: Nothing happens.

Re:Signal WhatsApp Chats Import on Friday January 08, 2021 @11:46AM (#25686553)
Have you contacted their support? I did, and they informed me they'd fixed the bug in the app update that was published the next day. It might have been a coincidence, but at the very least they were responsive and knowledgeable.

(I had the same issue migrating from an iPhone SE to an iPhone 12 mini.)

Re:The unexpected rule of adjectival ordering in English (2016) on Saturday December 12, 2020 @01:37PM (#25400377)
"lovely" is an opinion, so it fits the rule to put it in front, right?

It looks much less intimidating than my Honeywell North full facepiece respirator, which I've worn in public.
