Re:Life Has Several Exits on Saturday August 19, 2023 @06:00PM (#37193735)
Not required, but achieving meaningful things is certainly easier after the type of growth that comes from overcoming challenges.
So you saw how they said 'we eventually turned things around' and then put the blame on themselves for bad branding.

I'm not sure if you know what 'cope' means. Or 'reading' for that matter.

Re:Ask vs. Guess Culture on Friday August 18, 2023 @04:48PM (#37181899)
It's rude to expect other people to be able guess what you want.

If you want something, ask me. I don't have crippling confidence issues so saying no is not a problem for me.

I can't wait until its more than just Elon doing it.

Replacing one monopoly with another is not the way to go.

Re:China's Zombie Economy on Sunday August 06, 2023 @02:58PM (#37025336)
You have been hearing predictions about what might happen to China in the future for 20 years, if the nation grows too quickly in the wrong ways and doesn't solve it's impending demographic problems.

The article is saying 'China peaked in 2021 and the past two years have been a zombie economy'. It's not talking about what might happen, but about what has already happened and why the state has been hyper-focusing on security and military competition with the west for the last couple of years.

Re:A Room-Temperature Superconductor? New Developments on Tuesday August 01, 2023 @05:18PM (#36963111)
Cold fusion, after containment with superconductors becomes easy.

Some people are visual learners. Some people are auditory learners.
If an advancement in plug capabilities is enough of a value-add for users, then the mobile will have both.
Could you share them?
Re:Wandering Robots in the Wild on Friday July 15, 2022 @03:54AM (#32105806)
I'm sure this would result in a lot of robots being told where to go.
You think a school being basically worthless when open because large numbers of teachers have become ill from infection spread, is some how a criticism of closing schools to prevent infection spread?
Re:In 2022 a Moonrush will begin in earnest on Saturday January 01, 2022 @09:57PM (#29765326)
No amount of telescopes will provide the off-world low-g manufacturing capabilities necessary to build the logistics we need.

The moon is both low-g and has wonderful built-in radiation shielding (one of our biggest current blockers) via the simple process of going underground.

I don't think you or I are qualified to make absolute statements about the involvement of for-profit companies in that.

Re:In 2022 a Moonrush will begin in earnest on Saturday January 01, 2022 @09:47PM (#29765259)
Simulated skylights are probably possible, but you may have to go a bit deeper to create the space for an effective simulation.
Re:In 2022 a Moonrush will begin in earnest on Saturday January 01, 2022 @09:43PM (#29765234)
Low enough.

Earth is ultimately just another time-limited spaceship that will eventually loose the ability to support any kind of life due to the natural lifecycle of our sun. Over a long enough time span not expanding off-world is a death sentence for all life on this planet.

It's acceptable to do some small amount of damage to it as part of securing a future for our species (and all the other species we will carry with us) that is not dependant on a single, vulnerable and time-limited ball of rock.

A moon base is a step towards that.

The ISS doesn't have a moon to bury itself inside.

You only have to go 2.5 meters down to provide the same level of protection as being on the surface of the earth.

Re:Drone users face new rules across Europe and UK on Thursday December 31, 2020 @08:52PM (#25599941)
They restrict what manufacturers can legally provide, reducing the availability of dangerous drones.

They also mean that a drone which is blatantly unsafe can now be legally confiscated.

Lastly they provide extra options for punishment when someone is injured because the regulations were ignored. Though an increase in punishment doesn't have much impact on the incidents of a crime, it does have some.

Some people get away with murder, so lets not make it a crime as these laws just give you a false sense of control! <- It's a silly argument.

Re:The Theory of Interstellar Trade (1978) on Thursday December 31, 2020 @02:56PM (#25596428)
Interesting.

There would effectively be a ripple pattern on what counts as new, originating from the source. This ripple pattern would not only apply to physical goods, but also the information about how they were manufactured.
