He's a craftsman practicing his craft. You have a strange concept of what is unhealthy.
Did I say it matters?

Some of you seem so predisposed to be on the defense in this topic it's difficult to even have a casual discussion without becoming adversarial.

It's worth knowing if some forms of marijuana can effectively treat pain without significant impairment.

Re:Linux Kernel LTS release is now for 6 years instead of 2 on Monday October 09, 2017 @11:21AM (#15434551)
Was this in a mailing list thread? Got a URL? I'm unaware of this.
I never claimed to have researched marijuana's medicinal uses. My experience is all I have and it's purely recreational.

I do not suffer from chronic pain, and never have. Marijuana just has never crossed my mind as something to consume when injured to treat the pain.

People are downvoting my comment as if I said marijuana has no medicinal value, that's obviously not the case. I was only expressing my surprise at these applications of something which, for me, never seemed particularly numbing except in quite incapacitatingly high doses. When I take a pain killer, it's generally undesirable for it to make me completely useless for a day. I'm just curious if that's how it's being used or if my experience is not representative.

I've vaped pure CBD oil a few times as well, the effects were interesting and not at all disabling or paranoia-inducing, but no pain relieving effects were noticable either. I could see how it might be huge for preventing pain resulting from some neuropathic disorders, however.

To be clear: my post was not intended in any away to judge the patients finding physical pain relief in weed. It just surprises me, weed doesn't fill that role in my mind.

Things like this surprise me. Marijuana has never struck me as something to take for pain. In my experience it heightens sensations and increases paranoia while stimulating appetite. I don't see that as especially useful for treating something like tooth pain. Are these patients just getting super baked to the point of comatose?

> which seems to be intentionally broken on Linux regularly

Please provide evidence to back the claim of intent. This comes across as if you're implying malice, when it's far more likely interfaces change in the natural course of development where there are no restraints like abi/api stability commitments.

Have you brought this is to the attention of the devs? I'd at least hop on freenode #dri-devel and ask around. The people working on this stuff are very accessible, and that is one of the advantages of having an open driver preferably in mainline. Instead of just complaining and accepting poor results, it's a very real possibility to get involved and collaborate with the authors in improving this for yourself and everyone else

I want my five minutes back.
Re:Overweight and obesity are linked to cancer on Saturday October 07, 2017 @01:31PM (#15424708)
Obese people probably produce elevated levels of insulin-like growth factors over time due to their dietary choices. IGF-1 is already understood to increase cancer rates.

Intermittent fasting studies tend to focus on IGF-1 levels in the interests of slowing aging, which is of course strongly related to cancer prevention.

TIL AIM was still operational.
Re:Adafruit acquires RadioShack? on Saturday October 07, 2017 @03:57AM (#15422831)
Funny, and I hope it was cheap and not riddled with debt baggage, because I doubt there's much value left in a pile of ailing brick and mortar stores at this point.

I hope for adafruit's sake this is just a joke around a framed radio shack cert.

Abuse also causes be neurological damage from oxidative stress, in the raver scene sufferers of these effects are referred to as e-tards.

But abuse of anything can be harmful, that's kind of a defining qualification of the whole concept of abuse, isn't it?

I can't speak for everyone, but psychedelics really help one internalize that beauty is perceived. Everything we experience is through a perception filter.

Psychedelics are an effective means of clearing the filter of all the constraints a person accumulates in the course of life. Culture, society, education, religion, it all serves to build the filters up.

If one finds beauty in the world under the influence of psychedelics, in my experience it tends to persist long after the drugs have left the system.

You just come across as someone who has never experienced MDMA, LSD, or Psilocybin.

No downvotes from me, I can't speak to that.

Wow, you don't have any experience with these drugs, do you?
MacOS is a dead end, iOS is clearly where Apple is converging and you'll shortly see ARM laptops from Apple shipping iOS. It's only a matter of time before their flagship productivity-oriented products are running iOS.
You may have just discovered how prolific Apple fanboyism is on HN. If Google did this it'd be a much bigger deal on HN and people would be pointing out how this is why they use Apple products.

All smartphones are a privacy/security shit show, Apple is no exception.

Do you think the panel supplier wouldn't be happy to sell more of a panel Apple made very cheap for them to manufacture at scale?
I use the thinklight for illuminating RSA keyfobs in the dark. Granted, I can tilt the screen and crank up its brightness to achieve the same thing, but it's cumbersome and maybe some people would prefer to read something illuminated while typing and seeing the screen simultaneously. At least my RSA codes are short enough to type from memory.
That's perfect for an X series, a real one, like the X[346]0 line which ended with the wide screen takeover.
My mod was less successful, and the colors are definitely off. Having done the mod myself and seen how cumbersome it is to get the LED strip perfectly oriented in the CCFL gutter, I'm not likely to try again.
I have a samsung evo msata ssd in my x230, it's the primary disk and the HDD bay is vacant. Not sure what your point is about it primarily being a cache - it's whatever you configure it for. And the display is LED IPS, but you're correct on the resolution.

I think for the money savings the x230 w/x220 kbd is attractive. People run egpu setups with them as well for gaming.

It demonstrates panel availability, which has been argued in the past as why no modern 4:3 thinkpads will be produced.
Yes, though I haven't done it myself. Search Google for nitrocaster fhd. I think you lose docking port functionality, as the mod steals the external display lines.
If it's the keyboard you're attracted to, x230s can be picked up for ~200$, and the x220 classic keyboard+palmrest bolt right on. My x230 has an i7 w/16GiG and msata ssd for a whole lot less money than this retro thinkpad.
The x62 is super attractive, except even the sxga+ mod is still a dim CCFL, or if you mod for led slightly brighter but colors all wrong with all sorts of artifacts from the light strip, and aftermarket-only awful batteries.

-An sxga+ (w/led mod) x61s owner.

This should have been an x70; an oem x62 w/led backlit sxga+. Not some preexisting workstation replacement beast with a classic keyboard slapped on it.

Lenovo has been such a disappointment.

They've always been shit, are you saying they're worse now? Hard to believe.
It's problematic that there's nothing clearly classifying such videos as speculative fiction. Sure, it's obvious to intelligent people, but what about the more gullible among us?

In the past there was a combination of latency in the press and the barriers of access to publishing. Today there's neither, yet the informational impacts of this unmoderated noise are as real as ever.

It's concerning, but maybe sites like YouTube could do a better job of highlighting such channels with a record of spreading propaganda without resorting to censorship, rather than simply displaying popularity (subscriber) stats. How about an accuracy rating?
