Never mind what was misconstrued or not. The behavior I mentioned is low class.
If you feel it applies to you/your experience, whatever, but it’s not a personal jab.
Nowadays, incel is synonymous with the Andrew Tate “top g”/alpha sex obsession. Backwards? Definitely, but more symbolic of the arrested development/lack of maturity than the lack of sex.
Sleeping with others’ significant others, or actively trying to/bragging about it is a perfect example. Low-class behavior that will get you props from low-class folks.
Not shocked to see that module 0, machine learning, is 1. Optional and 2. Just a few YouTube videos.
It seems like most people I see billing themselves as an “AGI researcher” or discussing alignment on Twitter (or irl in SF) have no actual background in AI/ML.
I went to a top university. Everyone I know from it who became a VC wasn’t impressive, above-average, or even average in some cases. However, they were extremely money obsessed.
But not the right-leaning newspapers?
News flash (no pun intended): they’re all the same.
Of course the type of person to ride a scooter on the sidewalk and hit someone will spin it as a lesson to others. It’s too bad you weren’t sued so you could learn to accept so e responsibility.
Everything on blind is completely unsubstantiated, doubly so if it’s a, “I heard from…” post. But still, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this come true.
You preface all of your posts with, “people seemed to like…”
No. HN does not need the spam. Save that for Reddit.
Ironically given the topic, it’s posters like you that ruin the quality of online communities and make engagement hard to measure.
I’ll guess because those are popular porn categories. What would you prefer they be?
What an extremely odd and specific response to a very common four-letter phrase.
Sorry our definition of tech doesn’t meet your old standards? Like what?
PE are truly the cockroaches of our society.
I agree with this. The justice system is fucked up. I’ve been arrested myself, so this isn’t some punitive viewpoint looking in from outside.
My point is that I don’t agree with labeling someone convicted of a crime as being among society’s most heroic or honest. That’s just a laughably ridiculous statement.
“These are some of the most sincere, honest, and heroic people I’ve ever met.”
Yeah, I think we’re too hard as a nation on ex-cons. But they’re not heroes because they went through self-imposed hardships (and almost always at the expense of someone innocent). And they’re certainly among the lower rungs of honesty by categorization. Nowhere near the top.
If this sounds harsh, just act their victims.
The only arrogance in this thread is you calling others “kids” and demanding comments.
A good day of surfing. Or sleeping with my partner
There’s actually a subreddit for this map, but can’t find it in the map itself (too meta?) :

Also surprised how big overwatch is relative to other games.
Bonus - My roommate works at Amazon and works part time with Andrei in some capacity (don’t know the full details), but anyway he has mentioned multiple times how cool and out of his way helpful Andrei is.
I bring this up because when someone of any notoriety is nice I think it’s really cool. I’ve met some ‘big’ tech people who definitely weren’t!
Such a simple analysis ignores e.g. the higher wages in the US offset by the lack of social nets
Put myself through college with some very shiny work and living conditions only to be met with medical debt from a congenital issue later.
Can never wrap my head around why America would forgive student debt and not medical debt, especially when the former is always a choice.
I buy that argument maybe during a draft, but not for those volunteering for such duties.
Thank you. I’ve heard that comments here are much higher in quality than on other platforms, including LinkedIn. ;)
This reads exactly like a LinkedIn post, formatting and everything.
I have done research in financial modeling and indeed have a family-member that manages his own successful hedge fund, so the comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I do consider myself an outsider, though, as I’ve been out of the field for sometime.
Still, if you’ve worked in hedge funds you’ll know two things: connections and luck account for almost everything. What remains are mostly linear models that almost never outperform your basic mutual index funds.
Those very smart people moving billions do get things very wrong, though often at an imbalanced risk to themselves (an imbalance in their favor, mind you), so I don’t put much stock in such sweeping appraisals.
Quants: So much fancy vocabulary just to consistently underperform your favorite mutual index fund :)
Nobody will pay four-figures for digital news access that still has ads.
