Re:Video games inspire great UX (2019) on Saturday September 26, 2026 @10:09AM (#49856734)
They said “most people” which is wrong.
Re:Video games inspire great UX (2019) on Friday September 25, 2026 @07:20PM (#49851326)
No one here thinks that. Yes there are some Linux tryhards but 99% of users on HN understand that UI/UX should be least friction.
I don't think so. If you controlled for temperature and season I bet you wouldn't be able to tell.
What is your choice? I personally can't think of a better backup than high-bandwidth satellite communications.
However, the Trump administration shot down this idea, with the president himself saying, “AI taking over the World, destroying Humanity, and all other things bad, is a HOAX.”

Wise words as always Mr President.

ATC seems like a great place to have redundancy with a starlink dish on the roof.
Re:One-Electron Universe on Sunday September 20, 2026 @01:05PM (#49777677)
How does this work with QFT? If an electron is just an excitation in a field then it being “one electron” is meaningless.
Re:There's a 100% Chance AI Agents Are Ruining the Internet on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @01:36PM (#49715921)
yesterday I visited a page with TWO! captchas side by side. When I got through the second one the first one had expired...
Re:US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @09:51AM (#49712542)
All the time. Politically speaking the past is quite embarrassing.
Sorry, I meant "bread" as in money.
Because it runs Windows hehe
Re:AI models don't kill people – people kill people on Sunday September 13, 2026 @11:10AM (#49684872)
“Bad ASI would pretend to be good *until* it could execute a plan to kill everyone all at once”.

So not today but tomorrow it could engineer an airborne virus. The point is it can come up with chess moves that are inconceivable to us.

Re:JetKVM Mini on Sunday September 13, 2026 @11:02AM (#49684764)
It’s 3x the cost of jetKVM though. For someone with 8 machines in their home lab this is a big commitment.
I agree with you, but suggesting Astroturf is apparently against the rules here. I like it because it needs less water for football fields.
Re:The Helicopter with Radioactive Blades on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @12:57PM (#49613031)
The titanium spar is filled with gas. If there was a crack in the spar the gas would escape, therefore tripping the pressure sensitive radiation shield. Releasing radiation that can be detected inside the helicopter.

Wireless systems aren’t used for opsec reasons.

The enterprising Germans all left for the US to make bread
Re:GMails custom domain "send as" discontinues January 2027 on Friday September 04, 2026 @12:02PM (#49566500)
Fastmail comes up in every thread about email. Do you get a referral bonus or is the astroturfing team over there just that aggressive?

I saw 5 mentions of it in this thread so far and no mention of any other provider.

Re:I wanna live an NPC life on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @04:52PM (#49542379)
This post got the definition of NPC entirely backwards. NPC = follows the rules exactly like they’re programmed to. That means not thinking outside the box, ignoring gut feelings, adhering to a routine, consumerism and generally politically unimaginative.

The blacksmith from Skyrim is a great example because along comes a player, puts a bucket on your head and steals all your stuff without any complaints.

Re:Google Maps Renames Lake Ontario to Lake America on Monday August 31, 2026 @12:56PM (#49511984)
"Oops our Google Maps team is on vacation, an intern messed up the lake names microservice called "Lacus" and it is currently unavailable for changes. It will take the Google Maps team 2 years to make this change."

Thats how they could have pushed back against a dictator. Every finger you give him is a hand you lose.

They are reducing to +25% from current +50%. So while the title is inaccurate in percentage it is factually correct that limits are going down.
Re:Bomb Fishing Is Wreaking Havoc on Indonesia's Coral Reefs on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @05:15PM (#49456056)
Exactly, that’s the last sentence in my original comment.
Re:Bomb Fishing Is Wreaking Havoc on Indonesia's Coral Reefs on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @01:34AM (#49444413)
We’re just speculating on the economics here so let’s agree to say making it illegal is not fixing the problem.
Re:Bomb Fishing Is Wreaking Havoc on Indonesia's Coral Reefs on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @02:52PM (#49438782)
This is not an obsession with hurting animals. It’s survival and earning a living for these Indonesian fishermen.

To incentivize them to stop you have to give them better options. In this case, teach a man to not fish with explosives and you’ll feed him for the rest of his life.

Why not reply to that top comment? Its still there.
Re:Google Workspace thinks my domain is an email provider on Sunday August 23, 2026 @11:44PM (#49414993)
User != customer
Re:The Vibe Tax on Sunday August 23, 2026 @11:28PM (#49414921)
How do you know what’s smart enough to get the job done? Could actually be an interesting empirical question.
Re:The Vibe Tax on Sunday August 23, 2026 @04:51PM (#49412501)
Dumb models will make more mistakes even with good spec no? They lack capacity to verify (to be introspective) and will pattern match over reasoning.
Check out Cyberchef
Lead is bad because the high energy particles hitting lead can multiply particle count. You’d need a significant amount, like 25cm thickness. Too much for weight limits of any airplane.
