How do you get in a market like that? We tried but failed because the owners didnt like the fact that we where from "the city".
Re:Days Since a Cryptocurrency Exchange Has Lost More Than $100M on Saturday February 24, 2018 @07:24AM (#16452961)
Or add a noscript element.
Switzerland wants people to spend the money from cryptocurrencies there. There's a lot of money to attract.
Re:Airbnb is putting AMP at the core of its digital strategy on Tuesday February 20, 2018 @07:46PM (#16425794)
Google is doing this with everything. In the end they will answer almost every query directly, except when you are looking for a site. Even then, they could try to identify what do you want from that site (if you use chrome or the site has google analytics) and show you the info you are lloking for.
Re:Ask HN: Which stack do you use at your startup? on Friday February 16, 2018 @08:01PM (#16398124)
COBOL, C++ and Java?
This so much. Keeping your email out of the spam folder it's simply painful.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? on Friday November 03, 2017 @10:24PM (#15623497)
You might have made your domain public with that email address...
What could cause that that you mention on point 2.

Are they "caching" responses or that offer is tailored to your user/cookie?

At least they are honest.
Re:Ask HN: Scammed. Now what? on Tuesday October 17, 2017 @10:32AM (#15491192)
Did they buy something? You can make PayPal reverse thr transaction. I was on the other side of this before, a scammer used a stolen account to pay me. PayPal reversed the transaction and I couldn't do anything. Really unfair considering that I wasn't the one phished.
I didn't read your source. But I'm sure that for those age gaps the number of accounts could be explained by underage kids lying about their age to be able to create an account.
Re:How to track social shares for specific URL free? on Thursday October 05, 2017 @10:57PM (#15414124)
With Facebook and g+ is free. G+ is easy because it's 0 99,99999% of the time.

For Twitter you have to pay to a third party service like gnip. It makes senses since twitter is still losing money.

Re:Ask HN: If users tell you they want your product but on Monday September 25, 2017 @12:42PM (#15331904)
I don't know how are you going to implement your service. But by looking at your website it seems that you could do a lot by hand to test if it works, sort of "fake it til you build it"

I built a lot of things that didn't work and with time I learnt to first get customers and then build the product.

I usually buy time saying that we are customizing the product for the client's use case, which it's usually half true. Just be honest about dates.

Re:Ask HN: If users tell you they want your product but on Saturday September 23, 2017 @03:32PM (#15321282)
It depends. Do you have a fixed date to have the product ready? Is it custom?
Re:Relicensing React, Jest, Flow, and Immutable.js on Saturday September 23, 2017 @12:42PM (#15320485)
As I see it this shows that you can't trust Facebook. And that Mark still is the same dude that once said "They trust me. Dumb fucks".
Re:Improbably Frequent Lottery Winners on Saturday September 16, 2017 @06:27AM (#15263957)
Probably someone working on the place where you go to get the money.
Re:Ask HN: What would you do with MySpace on Friday September 15, 2017 @11:35PM (#15262697)
What you propose in the last paragraph sounds like Reddit.
Re:Ask HN: Is it me or HackerNews needs a better UI? on Monday September 11, 2017 @11:48PM (#15224675)
I like the "brutalism". The only thing i would add is a night mode.
People use what works for them. Besides it's a great framework and it's stable, great for boring businesses.
Re:Google Cloud Platforms – Shameful on Tuesday September 05, 2017 @12:12PM (#15176573)
AWS even refunds you when you caused the trouble. Amazon in general has top notch support.
Re:Ask HN: What are your favourite developer blogs? on Saturday September 02, 2017 @08:28PM (#15159016)
You could check this repo for more sources: https://github.com/kilimchoi/engineering-blogs

That's what's left from a similar site to yours

What do you use it for?
Re:Show HN: Park your domain name with just 2 DNS records on Saturday August 26, 2017 @12:01PM (#15105991)
Great idea.

What do you use to read the records?

There's Symfony and some other good frameworks around. PHP 7 was a god send.
Re:JavaScript is Eating the World on Thursday August 24, 2017 @12:21PM (#15091395)
I know.

I just wanted to share this because I find it amusing til the moment that client went with another company that had "patent pending tech" and AI, it was sad because I knew the other company was just a couple of guys loading data.

I guess the lesson is that sometimes it's hard for people with a technical background to sell because we usually don't "hype" our tech.

Re:JavaScript is Eating the World on Thursday August 24, 2017 @10:41AM (#15090453)
I had a client that asked me to rewrite our software in JS. He didnt know anything about programming but said he preferred JS.
OVH works pretty well and you can get a small VPS for less than USD5
