I've been switching to Lemmy.

It's like Reddit but not owned by a public corp.

Reddit still has more users but Lemmy is more like old school distributed web, not just an ad product pushed by coked out MBA accountants.

The three big app stores are based on the west coast US.
GattAIca here we come, baby!

Was there something in this submission that caused it to get shadowbanned?
Makes me think of scifi.

What if there's some kind of plastic cliff that most species in the universe don't survive?

We worry about virus epidemics, global warming, asteroids, etc.

Until it isn't?
You can also just do both.

I'd rather that it use the LAN, if I'm there at the time.

Data collection and remote access can just be their own functionality.

You can't have someone with passion in charge, they'd create great products that change the industry.

You need MBAs who eek out profit margins at the expense of the overall product and business.

Nick Offerman as Richard Stallman.
It's easier (read more reliable) to manipulate bytecode or other internal representation than the source.

You're probably still contagious for a while after the symptoms weaken.

But thinking about it, you're also probably in a good mood at the same time. So yeah, of course you're going to be more sociable.

Re:Intel slaps forehead, says I got it: AI PCs. Sell them AI PCs on Thursday September 21, 2023 @10:33AM (#37598200)
My experience with them is Arc is cheap and low end (but better than Intels previous stuff).

Kind of like the new S3 Virge.

Re:When Zig Outshines Rust – Memory Efficient Enum Arrays on Monday September 18, 2023 @09:18AM (#37555700)
This.

Many people are still learning Rust and an emulator is probably a good way to get your hands dirty.

I'm doing something similar with a compiler project and my code is gradually getting better and more idiomatic.

But I'm still doing a lot of stupid things and getting the hang of it.

Re:XFCE Wayland Development Roadmap on Thursday September 14, 2023 @07:54AM (#37507710)
Gnome has always been very wannabe Apple philosophy.
Most of the SteamDeck games are just running windows games through photon, wine and other compatibility layers.

While that works amazingly well, I tend to prefer games with native Linux and SteamOS builds, even though they're rare.

What about neighbors having backyard campfires or BBQers?
Microsoft definitely wouldn't let that happen.

I wonder how long a human brain could survive, if all of its support systems could be maintained indefinitely?

Re:Big Tech as the New Big Tobacco on Friday July 21, 2023 @04:41PM (#36819399)
Yep and the two big limitations are:

1) What content would be interesting to the mark

2) Generating the actual content for the mark to view

And AI can easily do both.

Big Techbacco

I don't think it's wrong. "Stupid" random information is addictive and has neurological effects and we're bombarded with it.

Re:US Department of Energy: Fusion Ignition Achieved on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @01:44PM (#33987974)
No, not really.

In the Midwest, supply shortages of staples and most consumer goods were not so bad that the "shelves were empty."

You might have had to buy a different brand of a given good.

The only real annoying thing has been products that use semiconductors.

Re:US Department of Energy: Fusion Ignition Achieved on Tuesday December 13, 2022 @12:47PM (#33972643)
Russia has pretty conclusively shown that they aren't even close to the same league as the US in terms of warfare.

Like comparing an amateur pickup basketball team to the Chicago Bulls.
