Re:Benefits of Walking on Sunday December 06, 2020 @10:24AM (#25324033)
Same for walking- in many towns there is no sidewalk which forces anyone walking onto the gutter.

For bike trails, there is an effort to connect Maine to Florida called the East Coast Greenway: https://www.greenway.org/

Having used it myself, it's not continuous but certainly better than nothing.

Would you pity someone who was manipulating data by hand or an accountant calculating taxes all by hand without software or at least a calculator to help them? What about someone manually trying to translate some text instead of using a translation service?

The other side of some manual work is that it exercises you in some way- but if there are things that'll speed up whatever it is you want to do and they are generally available, you will be pitied!

Which is peanuts in the overall costs of healthcare. At what point are you given one as part of your welcome kit? There are already health plans in the US that offer fitbits or will subsidize their cost. The game becomes encouraging a healthier lifestyle to help people avoid getting sick or hurt which costs alot less than treating someone once they have developed a full blown disease. It's one place where both the patients' and the insurer's and hospitals' interests are all in line with each other.

Re:Standing up for what's right on Saturday January 28, 2017 @09:41PM (#13511520)
The only way to "stand up for what's right" is to be part of the conversation, not to shy away from it. If TK isn't part of that group, then who takes his place? If you had your way and nobody you approve of politically would have representation.

The answers to our problems aren't blatant partisanship, but a robust exchange of ideas. If Trump invites anyone from SV, it'd be extremely foolish to "protest" by taking yourself out of the conversation.

Re:The Hardware Hacker: Bunnie Huang's Tour-De-force on Friday December 30, 2016 @04:08PM (#13287469)
and to these, I would add a talk that he gave at FOSS Asia earlier this year about a hardware devicde made for Burning Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNtQsyysaGk&t=5s

The amount of thought put into the design and implementation is remarkable and inspiring.

Is the course your teaching going be a MOOC or will the assignments be posted publicly? I'd love to try that assignment myself.
