Re:SQL Everywhere – a new data architecture for web apps on Tuesday April 02, 2024 @11:21AM (#39906773)
First SQL database built specifically for running in the browser using WASM.
Re:Bun 1.1 on Tuesday April 02, 2024 @07:50AM (#39904677)
Bun is used in github.com/yolmio/boost as a Typescript runner to build a complete system. We use it also for all kinds of other scripts.
Re:Bun 1.1 on Monday April 01, 2024 @03:49PM (#39898371)
We've been using bun for a while now. We love the speed, but we love the integration even more. No need to use node, npm, nodemon, tsx, esbuild and jest.

Bun is our one-stop-shop for Typescript.

Thank you!

Re:Introducing Last Mile Insights on Friday September 17, 2021 @01:11PM (#28567986)
Misleading advertising.

They can add 50,000 locations, it won't matter unless the requests actually get routed to the closest location.

The article basically says "hey, we have no control where it is routed to". I have a CF location which is about 20 miles away and I always get routed to a location that is 280 miles away and this article and the response in CF community forum basically says "Nothing to do with us".

I technically get this, but then they shouldn't advertise it in such misleading ways.

Re:The German Problem with Tor on Monday July 20, 2020 @12:04PM (#23899162)
Here is the fundamental flaw with the parent analogy:

Both the government and the citizens are adults. Don't treat me like a child. Government is not supposed to keep us safe from ourselves but protect our god given freedoms.

In the US the government is of the people, by the people, for the people.

The other argument that people in government are smarter is laughable, at best.

Government is a necessary evil, but it needs to be limited.

Five studies. Key difference: Used with zinc and used with outpatients.

https://academic.oup.com/aje/advance-article/doi/10.1093/aje...

Actually we can, but timing and combination matters.

It should be taken early (either as preventative or early onset of symptoms) and with zinc. If so, then there is proof of success, see these five studies confirming its effectiveness in outpatients.

https://academic.oup.com/aje/advance-article/doi/10.1093/aje...

HCQ is no miracle. When used without zinc and when used too late it may not help.

It's best used with zinc and early. That's what five studies confirmed here:

https://academic.oup.com/aje/advance-article/doi/10.1093/aje...

I personally do not like drugs, but as far drugs goes Hydroxychloroquine is quite safe.

Hydroxychloroquine has been used since 1958 by millions of people. It is relatively safely (as much as any drug is safe) used for Malaria, Lupus and Arthritis. Some Lupus users have used it for decades.

The CDC on their web site state it is safe for young, old and pregnant.

Five studies show effectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine for outpatients

Regarding HCQ safety:

This is from the CDC web site: safe for young, old and pregnant:

If you want real scientific studies, have a look here:

https://academic.oup.com/aje/advance-article/doi/10.1093/aje...

$20 (patent free) Hydroxychoroquine vs $100s/1000s for patented medicine
Hydroxychloroquine does not repair damaged cells, but it does stop the virus from replicating (especially when used with Zinc)

There are five scientific studies demonstrating this for outpatient use.

https://academic.oup.com/aje/advance-article/doi/10.1093/aje...

Excellent points.

I would add: HCQ is most effective at the onset of symptoms. It stops the virus from replicating, it does not repair cell damage. Also, it must be used with zinc together, since HCQ opens the cells to absorb zinc and zinc must be present.

I prefer sanctions a thousand times over war.

Don't we have enough of the endless wars (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc. from the last 2 administrations?

So will CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews, etc. finally be de-platformed for "Weapons of Mass Destruction". This has caused actual destruction in terms of trillions of dollars, thousands of American lives and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's lives and the rise of ISIS with massive destruction in the middle east.
Re:TypeScript 3.4 on Saturday March 30, 2019 @11:52AM (#19530012)
You make some valid points on DI, linting, etc. but your first point on Typescript itself not providing value is pure FUD. Typescript catches a TON of bugs and the ones that are the most frequent https://rollbar.com/blog/top-10-javascript-errors/.

That we as an industry ship code (Javascript) to production that still has bugs that are so easy to catch at compile time does not reflect well on us, and your comment really does not help in this regard. What is your recommendation to ensure we catch more bugs at compile time rather than letting users find out that their application doesn't work?

Not advertised much, but you can cut down costs by 7x: Instead of API Gateway you can use Cloudflare Workers as "Gateway". It costs $0.50 instead of $3.70 per million requests. Not a drop-in replacement, but definitely an option.
Can you please elaborate a little? EFS scales with size, i.e. did you have at least a few hundred GB on there or was it mostly empty? Roughly how many IOPS did you get?

While some of our targets will be Google App Engine Flexible, some will be GAE standard. Can we use it with GAE standard as well?

Very glad that you are offering this service. A key feature needed is speed, i.e. minimal time from check-in through build/unit & integration tests/image/deploy. Questions: - What delay can we expect from check-in to start of build (seconds, minutes?) - What kind of compute power/memory is available for the build? if I run on fast CPU vs slow CPU that makes obviously a difference. What does this service run on? - Is there a way to allocate more vertical resources (more CPU/memory)? - Can parts of the pipeline be parallelized, e.g. run certain tests in parallel (using more than one core/machine)?
