This is really well done! My 9-year-old and I have been going down the rabbit hole for the last 2 hours. We simply love the ‘Where it formed’ feature. Great job!
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025) on Sunday November 09, 2025 @09:56PM (#45871864)
Built a local-first Kanban board with Tauri (Rust + Svelte) after getting frustrated with SaaS tools and basic offline options. Stores data in JSON files you control, full keyboard-first UX, parent/child tasks, release management, and it's blazingly fast with localStorage + background sync. No telemetry, purely local. Curious what others prioritize in personal task tools. Seems like there's a gap between "todo.txt" simplicity and Jira complexity.
Have you tried Infuse?
Re:How The Black Cauldron became a notorious Disney flop on Friday August 08, 2025 @07:49PM (#44842875)
Same!

To relive that nostalgia, I found myself searching for and purchasing the comic on eBay, as I had long misplaced my original copy during all my moves. I’d like to say that it retained its charm after nearly 40 years, but alas, that was not the case.

Re:Try Switching to Kagi on Wednesday April 30, 2025 @06:07AM (#43843107)
Very kind - thank you! I think I was a bit late or it expired. But it did prompt me to set up an account which I had been putting off. Haha, now off to explore Kagi with my 100 searches to see what it has to offer.
Re:Try Switching to Kagi on Tuesday April 29, 2025 @07:10AM (#43830989)
That would be very kind, if you still have it available. I have been on the fence - skeptical as is my nature, but I wonder if I am in the wrong here :)
Re:Easily setup new MacBooks on Friday April 25, 2025 @07:47AM (#43792595)
Dear, this was gold.
Or at a University.
Sadly, I was at the receiving end of this. FWIW I don’t work at a tech company, but rather at the IT department of a University in Florida.
Are ya me? Yet another of my favorites to rewatch and find something new to love, and set me on a path to pondering the central premises.
I find myself going back to rewatch the movie over and over again, hoping to capture the emotions I experienced during the first time I ever watched it… and it doesn’t disappoint.

Love the setting, the casual nature of the gathering, and how it draws you in with the premise, and always leaves the imagination running wild.

Re:TSA officers accused of stealing from passengers on Friday September 15, 2023 @08:09AM (#37521759)
Well FWIW, I had a Fitbit stolen at Heathrow (UK) in a similar manner, back when Fitbits were still novel.
Thanks for the link to the plug-in for Obsidian! This solves so many of the problems I have had switching to Obsidian completely.

If only there were a way to enable a three pane layout in Obsidian, I’d be in heaven.

Re:Making macOS Apps Uninstallable on Friday February 17, 2023 @07:14PM (#34842428)
Really? I thought it was abandonware… I used it all the time back in the day, but I thought it went the way of the Disco app.

Quite a few people I know use https://nzbs.in/login/ and swear by it. The admins of that site try to masquerade it as another WordPress site. Ingenious. But it is by far the biggest, and the best I am told.
Re:Ask HN: Any good black Friday deals? on Friday November 25, 2022 @08:04PM (#33748776)
I am addicted to Rotring pencils. I already have more than I will use in a lifetime (56). I have taken to gifting them to my loved ones. I am not sure all appreciate the quality, and the longevity of these pencils, but for those who do, this is a gift greatly appreciated.

That said, I was unable to resist myself and bought four to gift to my direct reports this holiday season, so, thank you OP!

Re:Ask HN: Alternate Email hosting to G Suite on Saturday January 29, 2022 @01:47PM (#30129124)
+1 for MXRoute. I switched a few of my domains from Legacy GSuite in the last week, and the transition has been seamless. I am going to check out Cypht - that looks to be the answer to my last minor quibble.
Re:“Zero fucks given” in other languages on Wednesday December 22, 2021 @08:44AM (#29649181)
A bit crass, but in Punjabi (India), we used to say “Bund ni maardey”, literally translated to “we don’t do it in the ass”. Not sure why it became synonymous with “we don’t give a fuck”.
Re:September 11, 2001 media synced in real-time on Saturday September 11, 2021 @01:14PM (#28493694)
If anyone is confused about the BBC not syncing up with the other news coverage, it seems like the creators did not take the time difference into account. You will need to get to 13:59 GMT.

On a personal note, that's the channel I was watching on that day 20 years ago. Watching the exact same coverage again is just ... unsettling.

Re:Vivaldi 4.0 on Wednesday June 09, 2021 @09:13AM (#27447480)
I may be obtuse, but I am not seeing that on Vivaldi 4.0 on the Mac?
Does it make Facebook’s app safe to use on iOS? Genuinely curious.
Re:Nine investors make $16B on GameStop stock squeeze on Friday January 29, 2021 @06:50PM (#25964424)
Yep, holding on to 120 shares, bought at 61.20. A bit late into the game.
Re:The mine that built the atomic bomb on Tuesday August 04, 2020 @08:18AM (#24049179)
Quite interesting, do you have an article, or a paper about the prehistoric episode you mentioned? I’m genuinely curious.
Wow what a trip down memory lane. Thank you for sharing!

I bought the Nintendo Donkey Kong Jr from here -http://dev.argosbookofdreams.co.uk/1986-87.html#page=275, as well as Snoopy Tennis back in ’87, and I still have both.

My son and play it every other day. Amazing stuff. :)

Re:Blackbaud hack: More UK universities confirm breach on Saturday July 25, 2020 @07:39AM (#23948449)
They insist the hackers ‘verifiably’ deleted their copy of the data. I’d like to see how one verifies that ‘all’ copies were destroyed.
Re:Blackbaud hack: More UK universities confirm breach on Saturday July 25, 2020 @07:38AM (#23948443)
Not at liberty to say which Unis, but this is much wider than initially reported. A lot of American universities were affected as well. They are still measuring the fallout, and how best to respond. We were only told last week.
Re:Tiny Tiny RSS on Friday July 24, 2020 @11:39PM (#23946686)
Another vote for this fantastic software. I have been using it for about two years now - with Reeder on Mac/iOS. Reeder introduced our of the box support for FreshRSS (it used to be via Fever API earlier), and now things are super fast - 12,000 starred items are downloaded on a fresh install in a jiffy. Just can’t say enough about FreshRSS.
Re:TablePlus – Modern, Native Tool for Database Management on Saturday April 18, 2020 @12:07PM (#22908632)
Has anyone compared this to Navicat? Our non profit has a non commercial license for Navicat Premium, and I just love the product (despite more than a few quirks).
