Re:The Sperm Kings Have a Problem: Too Much Demand on Friday January 08, 2021 @11:44AM (#25686518)
morality aside, the men who donate sperm will have an outsize influence on the genetic diversity of our species.

Think ghengis khan except on a smaller scale.

also interesting to think about the implications on human evolution over long periods of time:

will humans still have a 50:50 gender ratio of men to women? seems like sperm donation facilitates a much lower number of men required to maintain populations.

will humans still desire relationships with the other gender, or will we be more like bears (men show up for 20 minutes, do the deed, then don't help raise the kids)?

lots of interesting implications to consider.

> China while rolling over for China.

can you clarify this? in what ways did he roll over for china?

this is just marketing before their IPO. The goal with the launch of airbnb.org is to generate press coverage of their brand, which will generate marketing for their IPO, which will hopefully help their IPO be more successfull.

It seems to be working.

more than two thirds of workers want to to return to the office.

that's a super majority.

gas stove are just the next target of the global warming alarmists. See san francisco's recent ban on them.

This is just a propaganda piece in order to manufacture the public perception that we should give up the absolute miracle that is the ability to have a safe cooking fire, with adjustable and controllabe heat levels, with the turn of a dial.

climate change cultilsts literally want to throw away the pinacle of 1000s of years of cooking technology and replace it with inferior products.

do you have any evidence that they aren't people? if so, i'd like to see it. actually, i'd like to see any methods of determining if a reddit user is a bot or not.
thedonald.win just broke into the top 400 sites in america, so a whole bunch of people.

sure, if you want to give your twitter credentials to some random company based in the caribbean.
Re:What's Wrong with the Media on Friday November 20, 2020 @05:51PM (#25166043)
what do you think about this idea, which is very similar to yours?

> I'm actually happy to hear that more people are latching onto the religious and moral aspects related to their industries. Everything we do is religious even if we want to pretend otherwise. Let's end the artificial separation of work and morality and god once and for all. It only benefits the sinner class.

at what point does the bay area just declare war on china, india, and every country in africa for all the harm they are doing, on a global scale, to the climate?
Re:China attacks fishing boats in conquest of South China Sea on Tuesday November 17, 2020 @11:32AM (#25125685)
hopefully, but given 30,000+ years of human history, they won't.

the flash point will probably be when Xi Xinping dies of old age and the different chinese subfactions fight over who gets to be next president for life.

> that don't end in a sale.

i would bet 99%+ of all calls to restaurants from grubhub end in a sale, thus making this law meaningless.

edit: why did i get downvoted for this? it adds to the discussion and it doesn't break any of HN's rule. are people just not happy about it or something? wtf.

Re:San Francisco Bans Natural Gas for All New Construction on Thursday November 12, 2020 @04:08PM (#25075080)
i'm so glad I don't live in san francisco. Every time i read about these types of edicts, it just blows my mind. How long until they ban the sale of meat? methane from livestock is the 3rd largest producer of greenhouse gases.
oh, no. i actually net 1150 in profit each month, including all expenses, capex, and savings for emergencies.
my investment property, a residential duplex in the midwest, has a better MRR than most of these.

total cost? a month of my time looking at houses and negotiating, which i enjoyed, and about 45k downpayment.

plus i get all the tax writeoffs that property ownership brings.

most of these "startups" seem like more work than they are worth.

does this target only CEOs? what about COOs, CTOs, and other C-level executives? Board members?
San Franciso is a city, so I imagine what will happen is that companies will move out of the city limits and this new tax will be completely ineffective.

Seriously, how hard is it to find a new office in Oakland or San Jose?

Re:Gray Wolves to Be Removed from Endangered Species List on Friday October 30, 2020 @11:38AM (#24943349)
all the metrics. saying otherwise is just foolishness.

hunting laws are actually designed to limit our ability to hunt because we are TOO good at it. There are limits on ammo size, on weapon types, on times of year you're allowed to hunt, etc.

if by "worked" you mean having my laptop open and connected to VPN so i can monitor my email and teams, than sure.

if by "worked" you mean "spent more time actually doing something" than no: i finish my work much faster without all of the office distractions.

Re:Gray Wolves to Be Removed from Endangered Species List on Friday October 30, 2020 @11:16AM (#24943108)
100,000 years of human history would disagree on your pathology diagnosis. Humans have been killing for sport, for food, and for war, since before we were humans.

We are literally the best hunters in the known universe. Its not a pathology.

Re:Civil Liberties in Times of Crisis [pdf] on Thursday October 22, 2020 @12:26PM (#24859801)
ah. i'm not in either of those political bubbles and i'm not on twitter.

guess i'm not missing out if being against child trafficking is somehow either a) a conspiracy theory on the left or b) a conspiracy theory on the right.

child trafficking is wrong. full stop.

Re:Civil Liberties in Times of Crisis [pdf] on Thursday October 22, 2020 @10:33AM (#24858435)
how is being concerned about child sex trafficking pro right wing?
Re:Tuesday was my last day as CEO of CircleUp on Friday October 16, 2020 @10:21AM (#24801049)
seriously good marketing, actually.

Here we are deep into a comment thread about a completely different company and you are spreading elon's message about the price chance of his product for free.

thats a genius move by musk.

Re:Computer Scientists Break Traveling Salesperson Record on Thursday October 08, 2020 @02:57PM (#24722473)
the link you provided is talking about credit cards and needing cosigners.

there is nothing in your link that says that women couldn't sign a mortgage.

the original claim is that "women couldn't even sign a mortgage in the US until the 70s." this claim is false.

Re:Computer Scientists Break Traveling Salesperson Record on Thursday October 08, 2020 @02:55PM (#24722449)
the link you provided is talking about business loans, not mortages.

the original claim was "women couldn't even sign a mortgage in the US in the 70s".

that is a false claim.

Re:Computer Scientists Break Traveling Salesperson Record on Thursday October 08, 2020 @02:53PM (#24722431)
your linked article is talking about credit cards, not mortgages. also its talking about the 60s, not the 70s.

you still have not addressed the claim that "women could not sign mortgages in the 70s"

Re:Computer Scientists Break Traveling Salesperson Record on Thursday October 08, 2020 @02:52PM (#24722412)
Women could sign a mortgage in the 70s (albiet discounted), so the original claim is false.
