Like the people who get trapped in case of accident when the electricity fail and is burned inside?
Re:Ask HN: What're You Reading? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @10:58AM (#49909882)
10x Org.

I am fed up of this "you should be fast with AI" and this book explains how your can really improve the global performance.

Not super complex. It is written so even management should understand it. But it makes you think about your organización.

Like the Ferrari paradox: give everybody in the city a Ferrari and the traffic won't improve or even be worse. The same with AI

And, was this system exposed to internet without any VPN? Out was it also compromised?
Nothing wrong in their to help.

But if you only help based on the colour of the skin... That's a little bit racist.

Also, as far as I know there is not persecution in South Africa. Trump used photos from the wrong conflict. And there are really bad things happening in Africa... but not to white people

Re:Magnifica Humanitas (Encyclical Letter) on Monday May 25, 2026 @05:54PM (#48272425)
Note that, as anybody, the Catholic Church may have is bias.

For example. Their dualist view of the world makes them see AI as something very different from human intelligence. So, without having read it, the church may negate that it could be at human level. A few years ago that would negate that computers could be creative because they do not have a soul.

Anyway, kudos for focussing on the important issues and the impact on human.(And less on sex)

Can you lobby to make Trump become not Trump?
Ethic cleansing is something much worse when that race you are "cleansing" is already living there (Israel removing Palestinian from Gaza)

The accusations is just racism. The fact that Trump gave extra fast visas to white South Afrikaans makes you think that there were some racial reasoning there.

In the last decades the whole world is more global.

Re:CISA Admin Leaked AWS GovCloud Keys on GitHub on Friday May 22, 2026 @07:13PM (#48242774)
DOGE was the culture of let's do things fast!!

I can imagine CISA reducing personal and subcontracting work to some cheap company to save money

Some non-ascii characters will be hard on 5x5 like ñ o É
Re:Google Broke Its Promise to Me. Now ICE Has My Data on Thursday April 16, 2026 @02:59AM (#47789591)
Does this administration care to much about the law? A judge can rule something but they mostly keep doing the same thing.

Not to mention the supreme court that is willing to let this happen.

The weapons flow from USA doesn't help.

US can afford to have militarized police with armoured cars. But the combination of drugs, poverty and weapons is very dangerous

Re:Chuck Norris has died on Friday March 20, 2026 @01:40PM (#47457961)
And it is not as if he was great at acting or as martial artist.

Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan were in a completely different league.

I Will never understand why US allows this kind of political intervention.
Re:Neurons outside the brain on Monday February 16, 2026 @05:55PM (#47041482)
What really called my attention is the personality change after transplants. I am not super sure about how good the science is.

Also. We are very neuro-centric, but the system also had all type of hormones and other chemical messages affecting it.

Re:Surely the crash of the US economy has to be soon on Saturday January 31, 2026 @05:00PM (#46841333)
You need US dollars because you have with US. Tarrifs hurt the need for dollars.
Re:De-dollarization: Is the US dollar losing its dominance? on Tuesday January 20, 2026 @11:34AM (#46693880)
Having dollars was useful to trade with US. But the trade has been reduced by tariffs.

Also. Any attack to the independence of the federal reserve damages whee vale of the dollar

Yes. US is burning a lot of goodwill and soft power in the last year.

For a lot of countries China doesn't seem so bad now. Specially when the the difference between human rights in US and China are becoming smaller

Re:Some Epstein file redactions are being undone with hacks on Wednesday December 24, 2025 @05:57AM (#46374454)
Europe is already considering to have a nuclear shield.

This is because if Trump

But that transferred very sensitive data to a third party without anonymising the amount.

Just by replacing the email with a random anonymizedAccountId the impact would have been reduced from disaster to who cares. This was bad design from the start.

We may see some interesting news in a few days.

Re:Airbus A320 Fly by wire corrupted by radiation in flight on Friday November 28, 2025 @07:43PM (#46084224)
That wasn't just automating... That was hiding the features from the manuals to avoid having to re train the flight crews.

I would consider paying premium if they allowed me to disable shorts
Re:The Miracle of Wörgl on Tuesday November 18, 2025 @01:00PM (#45969765)
They can hide wealth (at their own risk) but it prevent them from extracting money from the country:

The cannot own houses, factories, monopolistic contracts o media. It makes harder to influence politics ( in a legal way).

The housing issue is specially important because city space is limited and the demand is very inelastic

Re:Alaska Airlines' statement on IT outage on Friday October 24, 2025 @06:43AM (#45693197)
Just by forcing to compensate passengers accordingly they would start to care more.

What is the lost productivity for having so many people waiting on airports?

But that is consumer protection regulation and it is not going to happen in America in a few years

Without post WW2 taxes.

Part of the problem is that a lot of the extra wealth ends invested in the house market. This increases the cost of terrains for both old and new homes. It is also not very productive just to buy one thing to extract rents from it. ( There is value in handling the rent, building or reforming and old house).

The urban land is limited and requires government infrastructure to connect it.

Another big cost is the university.

Re:Does Big Pharma gouge Americans? on Thursday October 02, 2025 @05:16PM (#45455667)
Not only the drug has to be approved but the production process and laboratory.

There is a lot of bureaucracy and audits. It is but as if a European laboratory is allowed to sell a generic drug without at huge costs for certifications ( and viceversa)

I am not saying that buying your medicines to questionable online web is a good idea. Just that other countries have their own controls depending on their policies

Re:The Top Programming Languages 2025 on Wednesday September 24, 2025 @07:23AM (#45358839)
I had this feeling when Kotlin (that took a lot of ideas from Scala)

Intellij tools are great.

Re:Java 25 Officially Released on Tuesday September 16, 2025 @12:16PM (#45264264)
And there is Amazon Correcto, Eclipse Temurin...

Sure, that could stop to maintain it, but would put the power immediately in the hands of other companies with a fork

That said, you always have oracle's greediness...

Re:Made for People, Not Cars: Reclaiming European Cities on Wednesday September 10, 2025 @06:21PM (#45204835)
I would say that the causality goes in the other direction. We have big stores Carrefour and even some Coscos, but not in the middle of walkable cities.
Electricity prices go up? Are you blaming the windmills? It should you blame the new AI data centers

And windmills are profitable by themselves. And reduces foreign imports with increasing taxes on this goods. If we removed all subsidies coal would be the real affected.

I am not sure about property value but burning gas next to homes creating health problems to power Elon musk data centers surely doesn't help. The dark fumes from coal, gas or oil are going to affect it.

With less companies to compete you can expect it.

When Donald put tariff in dishwashers even the ones made in US rose it's prices.
