Re:Retool raises $45M at a $3.2B valuation on Thursday July 28, 2022 @12:06PM (#32266250)
Seconded -- we're using the cloud version and I absolutely wish I could version control changes.
Not sure why believing that silver is an unproductive asset would have precluded Buffet from believing that "someone else — who also knows that these assets will be forever unproductive — will pay more for them in the future." Like, yes, he phrased that in a deprecating way, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't shrug and play along.
I would be happy that they valued me enough to add to their automation, and I would probably set up some automation to remind me to talk to them, and we would be automation buddies. Sounds a lot more fun than the likely alternative, that we never talk to each other again.

I'm not expected to be friendly and fun around adults I don't know -- so why is it that I'm expected to be friendly and fun around kids? They're still strangers. I dread spending time with kids I barely know in the same way I dread spending time with adults I barely know. I have friends with kids, but spending time with those kids is like spending time with those friends' parents. Yes, they're related to my friends, but they're still strangers to me.

Then I had a kid... and nothing changed about other kids. I still don't know them and I still feel awkward around them. But I do know my kid. He likes spending time with me and I like spending time with him, even though it can be boring/tiring sometimes.

> This was the era when in the US Eminem had lines like "nobody listens to techno"

That was a diss line about Moby, a "techno" artist who achieved mainstream US popularity around that time. Eminem wasn't trying to accurately depict the state of electronic music in the US, he was being salty.

Re:Skip Level Meeting Guide for Leaders on Thursday December 10, 2020 @10:17AM (#25374548)
When I was a jr. engineer, I had a skip level meeting with the director of our department (~30 people). I asked the director -- in the snarky way that certain entitled junior employees have -- what he actually did in his job. He laughed and explained that his job was to make sure senior management understood what we were doing and were onboard with why we were doing it. Nobody gave me any talking points and I was too green to worry about the political ramifications of my snark... and there weren't any. It was just a half hour opportunity to talk to someone I didn't usually get a chance to talk to. I now realize that this company, or maybe just that department, was a particularly healthy place to work.
